A great treat particularly after the cinema
You know the feeling, sometimes
it just has to be a visit to the local
curry house and here we visit The
Cinnamon Tree in Sidmouth (TCT).
I suppose I’m what you’d class as a
long-term customer of TCT - Kazi,
the owner, runs a fine establishment
and as a diner, I’m particularly fond
of their Meat Bhuna, Chicken Madras,
and of course, their Tandoori
Chicken (but not forgetting those
naughty but calorific Keema Nans).
Naturally, when you’re first seated
it has to be a cool lager and some
puppadums, I do see diners
drinking wine, a glass of cold white’s
good, although I often wonder
why you’d want a red wine with a
curry, you’d need something pretty
soft, perhaps a slightly chilled New
Zealand Pinot Noir? - Digression
aside, it takes all sorts, each-totheir-own
as I often say.
Puppadums are never as good at
home as they are at the restaurant,
and following these, starters of Sik
Kebab and also Butterfly King Prawn
were ordered. I have to say that I’ve
never seen such a large butterfly
prawn, upon asking the waiter if it
was lobster, he said there are a wide
range of sizes and this was at the top
of the scale - it was surprising the
amount of flesh available - superb!
To bring you something unusual
through this review, it was time to
try something I wouldn’t normally
have order from the menu. Kazi
recommended the Shorishawala
(see description left) and also the
Shamwala (again left). We also
sampled the Saag Aloo and Special
Rice.
All-in-all absolutely lovely, tasty
food and what’s great is there’s
something for everyone, don’t
always think that you need the
hotter recipes, you’ll taste much
more with the gently spiced and
aromatic dishes on the menu.
