38 Tourism Governance NT Matters What did the Board do? 2009-10 indicators ✔ Endorsed the ‘Signature Lodges’ initiative, now a designated ‘Major Project’ and over-sighted by senior levels within the NT Government ✔ Recommended the need for the Darwin International Airport expansion to become a ‘Major Project’ ✔ input into the resolution and extension of the Jabiru Town Lease ✔ Provided feedback on the NT Government’s Aviation Strategy ✔ Endorsed actions to support NT operators and ensure the Territory is more competitive post the Global Economic Crisis tourism nt 2010-11 priorities • Provide guidance on a new business direction for Territory Discoveries • Provide guidance on the level of investment in, and strategies for, social marketing and new technology platforms • Assist with a smooth transition period with the new Chief Executive Committees Darwin Art Gallery Darwin Harbour Cruise
Committees Risk Management and Audit Committee Our Risk Management and Audit Committee oversees a comprehensive risk management and effective control framework, adequacy of external reporting documents, consideration of legal and compliance risks, the audit function and monitors implementation of internal and external audit recommendations. The Committee met three times during the year. Audits Completed The following audits by the Auditor-General were overseen by the Risk Management and Audit Committee during the year: External audit on Territory Discoveries’ 2008-09 financial statements. External Interim audit on the Red Centre Way signage project in compliance with our Agreement with the Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism. External audit on the accreditation mentoring project. A program of internal audits was not developed during the year. This awaits finalisation of the risk management process which will then be able to better define priorities for internal audit. The objective of the Risk Management and Audit Committee is to provide independent assurance and assistance to the Chief Executive on our risk, control and compliance framework, and our external accountability and legislative compliance responsibilities. The Committee is governed by its own Charter, with membership approved by the Chief Executive.
