COUNCIL OF CATHOLIC WOMEN MEETING The next CCW general meeting is being held on Monday, August 20, at 7:00pm in the Parish Hall. We will be praying the rosary prior to the meeting at 6:30pm in the Parish Hall. The Council of Catholic Women understands that there is a great need for school supplies for children in our community. So when you join us on August 20th, we ask that you please bring a donation of folders or notebooks for the Love INC School Supply drive. Refreshments will be served at the meeting. SHARING AND CARING HANDS On Monday, August 20th, our parish will be preparing and serving a meal to approximately 300 people at Sharing & Caring Hands Shelter. The meal will include: a hamburger & rice hot-dish, buttered bread, cole slaw, milk, cookies & bars. Help is needed with preparing the food the night before, making bars & cookies, helping make the meal the morning of the dinner, and helping to deliver and serve the meal. Bars can be dropped off at the church basement Sunday night between 6:30-8:30pm or Monday morning between 8-9:30am. Please call Chris Kunze at 763-682-6360 to volunteer. Family Formation Back to the Basics This summer, our Director of Family Faith Formation Brantly Millegan will be giving short refreshers on Catholic doctrine in the bulletin. Feel free to contact Brantly to propose a topic or ask a question about a topic already covered. Who Jesus Is It is a dogma of the faith that Jesus is both fully divine and fully human: the one person Jesus has two natures, divine and human. The Incarnation The divine person God the Son was conceived as a human being in the womb of the Virgin Mary and received a human nature in addition to the divine nature He already possessed. This “taking-on” of a human nature by God the Son is called the Incarnation. Many Ways to Be a Heretic At various times, the Church has condemned the following positions as heresy: Adoptionism - Jesus was a human person who became divine Arianism - he was not divine but was the greatest creature of God Psilanthropism - he was only human, the son of two human parents Docetism - he was divine alone and only appeared to be human Monophysitism - he had one, mixed, divine-human nature Apollinarism - he was divine and had a human body but not a human soul Nestorianism - there were two persons named Jesus, one divine and one human, who acted as one Instead, the Church teaches that the one divine person, God the Son, assumed a full human nature, and that both his divine nature and his human nature exist distinctly in the person of Jesus in their entirety. As a result, Jesus possesses everything entailed by each of these natures: e.g. as human, Jesus has both a human body and a human soul; as God, Jesus is all-powerful, all-knowing, and present everywhere, etc. Why it matters Who Jesus is cuts directly to the Gospel. As fully God and fully Man, Jesus, in his very person, mediates the divine and human. In addition, if Jesus was not God, he would not have been capable of being a sacrifice great enough to satisfy for our sins; but if he had not been human, he would not have been capable of presenting that sacrifice to God the Father on behalf of humanity. For more on the dogma of the dual-nature of Jesus, look up paragraphs 430-483 in the Catechism of the Catholic Church. FAITH FORMATION REGISTRATION Though Faith Formation registrations were due June 1 st , we will continue to accept late registration for next year’s Faith Formation for grades K-10 throughout the summer. A $25 late fee applies. There are two ways to register: 1. Online: go to www.stfxb.org and fill out the form 2. Paper: pick up a faith formation packet in the back of the Church or at the Parish Office. ATTENTION KNITTERS AND CROCHETERS Knitten Kittens will be meeting the first and third Tuesday of the month from now on at 11:00am in the community room of the Lakeside apartments (404 Catlin Street). MONTHS SEVEN AND EIGHT SPIRITUAL ADOPTION PROGRAM You are in the home stretch with your spiritually adopted baby. He/ she is completely formed, and has been since 8 weeks. All he/she is doing now is gaining weight and making his/her mother uncomfortable with his/her size. But she is not worried. In a short time, her baby will be born. Your baby’s mother appreciated the prayers you have said for her and her baby throughout the pregnancy. It has not been easy, but your prayers have given her the grace she needed to bring her baby to term.
