I found a blog post written by Matthew Warner that I
found interesting and helpful for us all to consider.
Some people think kids who make any noise at Mass
need to be in a sound-
that times about three Masses and that means the
average parish is set up to accommodate 15 young
families for Sunday Mass each week. The average
parish has about 1,200 families. About half of those
have kids under the age of 18. Of those, there are
under the age of 3. Pretty much every kid under 3
years old I know is loud and rowdy and has trouble
understanding how to be reverent at Mass.
So the average parish needs to accommodate 200
families with at least one kid who is rowdy and loud.
And it has space for 15 in the cry room (and we
wonder why we only have 15 show up to Mass). It just
kids are having an especially difficult day.

noises and blabber and have your hair pulled by them
during the homily. So we can watch them eat cheerios,
drop crumbs on the floor and then get all steamed up
about how terribly misbehaved kids are these days
and how negligent these half-wit parents are who are
raising them. All while we should instead be thinking
the many things we are far guiltier of than this 2 yearold
child a child with an innocence and faith in life
that we will never again grasp.
Now you tell me whose presence is less worthy at
Mass? Sure lots of parents need to learn how to
discipline their kids better and teach them how to sit
Because they are at home by themselves on Sunday
morning, making excuses for not going to Mass and
not watching how other families do it successfully.
Because the few times they mustered the courage to

try it, they got snide remarks from the priest or
annoyed looks from parishioners. Because they ended
up in a crowded cry room like second-class
yet learned how truly important Mass is for their
growing family.
We need to teach them. We need to help them. We
need to smile at them. We need to encourage them.
We need to invite them. We need to celebrate the
noise of children. What a beautiful noise to hear at
Church.

Interest Survey
The St. Francis Xavier-Knights of Columbus are
interested in sponsoring a blood drive with the
American Red Cross. By hosting a blood drive,
the Knights of Columbus demonstrates its
commitment to community health needs while
helping to ensure that an adequate blood
supply is available at all times for anyone who
needs it. Also, by holding a blood drive, we are
hoping to offer our council members and fellow
parishioners a more convenient blood donation
opportunity.
If you are at least 17 years old (or 16 years old
with a signed Red Cross parental /guardian
consent form where state permits), weigh at
least 110 pounds and are in good health, you
may be eligible to give blood. High school
students and other donors 18 years old and
younger must also meet other height and
weight requirements.
Giving blood is safe, simple and helps save lives.
Each pint of blood that is donated may be
helping as many as three people. The American
Red Cross is the largest single provider of blood
in the country. They provide blood to 3,000
hospitals across the country. About 38,000
people need blood each day in the United
States. Those people count on volunteer donors
to give them a chance at life.
We would like to determine the level of interest
in inviting the American Red Cross into our
parish community. There will be a table in
the Gathering Space at Church the weekend
of June 22 / 23 for anyone to indicate their
interest. We will let you know if a blood drive
will be scheduled. Thank you in advance for
helping to save lives!

Registration for this fall's new Archbishop
Harry J. Flynn Catechetical Institute class, the
Class of St. Francis, has already begun and is
going well.
Now for the first time, the Catechetical Institute
will be able to accommodate more than 150
at the Church of The Epiphany in Coon Rapids.
This means they are extending the deadline
from June 1st to June 24th.

Sharing & Caring Hands
On Tuesday, June 25th, our parish
will prepare and serve a meal to
approximately 300 people at Sharing
& Caring Hands Shelter. The meal will
include: hamburger & rice hot-dish, buttered
bread, cole slaw, milk, cookies & bars.
Many hands are needed to help with this parish
outreach service. Mark the date on your

details!

and youth will return to their parents at lunch
and again at the closing session.
After morning Mass, Spanish speakers are invited
to attend morning and afternoon breakout
sessions in Spanish, and return to the closing
session.
