Aims <strong>of</strong> the course<br />

The MBA Information Technology is the ideal qualification for individuals wishing to progress to<br />

strategic level in an IT-oriented organisation. It aims to provide a rigorous, intellectually demanding<br />

and vocationally orientated programme <strong>of</strong> study in general management, focused on<br />

opportunities for the strategic use <strong>of</strong> information technology. The course provides you with the<br />

range <strong>of</strong> competencies you need to succeed as a manager within an IT-focused organisation, and<br />

will help you make a significant contribution in the drive to develop strategic information systems.<br />

Our course <strong>of</strong>fers<br />

● A comprehensive understanding <strong>of</strong> the functional aspects <strong>of</strong> business<br />

The course aims to develop transferable intellectual skills and provide ample opportunities for<br />

personal development as a manager. Participants will also acquire specialist knowledge and<br />

expertise in information technology management within the established framework <strong>of</strong> a<br />

modern MBA curriculum, and should benefit from significantly enhanced career prospects.<br />

Course structure<br />

Stage One units are:<br />

● Managing Finance and Accounting<br />

● Global Economic Environment and IT<br />

● Managing Information Systems<br />

● Marketing and Operations Management<br />

● Managing People<br />

● Research Methods A<br />

Stage Two relates the material <strong>of</strong> Stage One to major strategic issues.<br />

Stage Two units are:<br />

● Comparative Management<br />

● Management <strong>of</strong> Change and Innovation<br />

● Managing Strategic IS Development<br />

● Managing E-<strong>Business</strong> Technology<br />

● Research Methods B<br />

● Dissertation<br />

Assessment<br />

Typical assessment includes group reports, group presentations, individual reports and<br />

examinations. Each unit is assessed separately and you must pass every unit to obtain the<br />

award.You are also required to complete a 15,000 word dissertation on a topic related to<br />

the strategic use <strong>of</strong> information systems.<br />

Career opportunities<br />

The course is an excellent foundation for personal career progression. Students can also apply<br />

for a transfer to MPhil/PhD.<br />

Entry requirements<br />

The MBA Information Technology course is designed for non-business graduates and therefore<br />

assumes no prior academic knowledge <strong>of</strong> business and management. All applicants must <strong>of</strong>fer<br />

evidence <strong>of</strong> academic ability, motivation and potential; this may include relevant work<br />

experience, prior completion <strong>of</strong> a suitable course, or completing diagnostic and exemption<br />

exercises or project work. Applicants will normally be interviewed.<br />

The standard entry qualification is an honours degree with appropriate IT content. Nonstandard<br />

entry may be possible for those with other qualifications who can demonstrate<br />

significant relevant work experience and responsibility.<br />

Tuition fees<br />

Part-time (EU) (fees for first year based on completing in 2 years) £4,140<br />

Part-time (non-EU) (fees for first year based on completing in 2 years): £4,500<br />
