On Friday afternoon, alums filled seminars on such<br />
business topics as <strong>the</strong> logic <strong>of</strong> strategy, navigating<br />
social networks, <strong>and</strong> health care reform. That<br />
evening, <strong>the</strong>y relived <strong>the</strong>ir memories <strong>and</strong> made<br />
new connections at dinner <strong>and</strong> a reception. And on<br />
Saturday <strong>the</strong>y attended <strong>the</strong> Homecoming Parade<br />
<strong>and</strong> watched <strong>the</strong> Gophers play in <strong>the</strong> Homecoming<br />
Game.<br />

First Tuesday.<br />

as part <strong>of</strong> her ongoing engagement with alumni<br />

a national NetImpact competition. Ben Schein,<br />
Jennifer Frenzel, Megan Dunbar, <strong>and</strong> Adrienne<br />
Peirce worked to answer a question about how<br />
Enjuba, a company that works to empower<br />
Ug<strong>and</strong>an artisans by selling clothing made in<br />
Ug<strong>and</strong>a <strong>and</strong> support <strong>you</strong>th through education.<br />
NetImpact challenged <strong>the</strong> students to plan how<br />
Enjuba should market its products <strong>and</strong> scale up<br />
its model for social <strong>and</strong> economic growth.<br />

In fiscal year 2008 <strong>the</strong> University begins a new budget model <strong>and</strong> funding structure that allows collegiate units to keep<br />
more revenue than in <strong>the</strong> past. Direct charges for central services (e.g., libraries, technology) will be partially <strong>of</strong>fset by<br />

Distinguished Memorial Lecture.<br />
Heckman received <strong>the</strong> Nobel<br />
Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences,<br />
<strong>the</strong> Jacob Mincer Award for Lifetime<br />
Achievement in Labor Economics,<br />
<strong>the</strong> Dennis Aigner Award for Applied<br />
Econometrics from <strong>the</strong> Journal <strong>of</strong><br />
Econometrics, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> Ulysses Medal<br />
from <strong>the</strong> University College Dublin.<br />
The lecture series honors <strong>the</strong> memory<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> late pr<strong>of</strong>essor emeritus George<br />
Seltzer, who began his service to <strong>the</strong><br />
University <strong>of</strong> Minnesota in 1954. In<br />
addition to his research <strong>and</strong> teaching<br />
responsibilities with <strong>the</strong> Industrial<br />
Relations Center, he served as <strong>the</strong><br />
Center’s acting director <strong>and</strong> also held<br />
posts as director <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Bureau <strong>of</strong><br />
Business <strong>and</strong> Economic Research <strong>and</strong><br />
associate dean for academic affairs at<br />
<strong>the</strong> <strong>Carlson</strong> <strong>School</strong>.
