center ARTS & CULTURE Goldman Art Gallery Art of the Book by Pyramid Atlantic Art Center Featured in the JCCGW Goldman Art Gallery through November 20 during regular JCCGW hours. A Creative Way to Support the Center Donate Fine Art to Better Treasures Art Sale Will Barnet’s screen print, “Paen,” is an example of fine art that was donated to, and sold through, our annual art show and sale. For decades, the Goldman Art Gallery has been the showcase for captivating and meaningful exhibits. Now, we are asking for your inkind support to help us in our efforts to continue offering such highquality cultural arts experiences to our community. The Jewish Community Center of Greater Washington is supported by a grant from the Maryland State Arts Council, an agency dedicated to cultivating a vibrant cultural community where the arts thrive. Funding for the Maryland State Arts Council is also provided by the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency which believes that a great nation deserves great art. The JCCGW is also supported in part by funding from the Montgomery County Government and the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County, the County Executive’s Ball for the Arts, and private sources. 11 6125 Montrose Road • Rockville, MD 20852 • jccgw.org • 301.881.0100 The Art of the Book exhibition, curated by Gretchen Schermerhorn and Anna Spelman, celebrates 30 years of artistic reflections. Using the book as inspiration, artists explore various methods, mediums and processes that examine the book as an art form. Work is representative of the 30-year history of Pyramid Atlantic Art Center in Silver Spring, Maryland. Featured in the Goldman Art Gallery and open when the JCCGW is open, this show coincides with the JCCGW’s 42nd Annual Book Festival (November 3-13). Proceeds from Better Treasures, our annual show and sale of donated artwork that will be held December 4-25, help us to continue to offer exhibits that are so valued by our community. In the past, Treasures has received donations of works created by Kathe Kollwitz, Leroy Neiman, Will Barnet, Mindy Weisel, Ebgi, Jack Perlmutter and Amen, as well as a William Steig New Yorker cartoon, a vintage Soviet Jewry poster, 19th century lithographs, a Disney cel, original paintings and signed limited edition prints by lesser-known artists, and framed unsigned prints and posters. While the donation of art of any worth is welcome, we especially appreciate receiving more valuable works. If you are an art lover, or just someone who cares deeply about supporting the Center, please consider donating your valuable pieces to “Better Treasures.” Donations of art and collectibles are accepted year-round at the front desk any time the Center is open. Dazzling Violinist Caroline Goulding Sunday, December 4 • 7:30 p.m. The 2011-2012 40th anniversary season of the Polinger Artists of Excellence Concert Series continues with 19-year-old violinist Caroline Goulding, dubbed “a precociously gifted virtuoso” by Gramophone. Ms. Goulding has been wowing audiences and critics with her technical polish, musical maturity and extraordinary stage presence. In 2010, she received a Grammy nomination for her debut recording on the Telarc record label. A 2011 Avery Fisher Career Grant recipient and 2009 Young Concert Artists International winner, Ms. Goulding will perform works by Mozart, Schumann, Saint-Saëns and Fauré.
