<strong>an</strong>d friends, <strong>an</strong>d Camp Kochavim, a fun <strong>an</strong>d<br />
instructive summer camp for teens <strong>an</strong>d young<br />
adults with special needs.<br />
This year, the Abe Pollin Hum<strong>an</strong>itari<strong>an</strong> Award<br />
will be presented to Ted Leonsis in honor<br />
of his phil<strong>an</strong>thropic work in the community.<br />
St<strong>an</strong>ley M. Br<strong>an</strong>d, Reid Cherner, Max<br />
Meltzer <strong>an</strong>d Ellen Zavi<strong>an</strong> will be inducted<br />
into the Greater Washington Jewish<br />
Sports H<strong>all</strong> of Fame in recognition of their<br />
achievements in the world of sports. Adam<br />
Bloom, Karen Beth Cohen, Madelyn Flax,<br />
Josh Singer, Carley Sturges <strong>an</strong>d Alex<br />
Tritell will receive the Hym<strong>an</strong> M. <strong>an</strong>d Philip<br />
D. Perlo High School Athlete Award.<br />

TED LEONSIS<br />
This year’s Abe Pollin Hum<strong>an</strong>itari<strong>an</strong> Award<br />
will be presented to Ted Leonsis, the founder,<br />
chairm<strong>an</strong> <strong>an</strong>d majority owner of Monumental<br />
Sports & Entertainment, which owns the<br />
Washington Capitals, Washington Wizards,<br />
Washington Mystics <strong>an</strong>d Verizon Center. Mr.<br />
Leonsis is a committed phil<strong>an</strong>thropist who<br />
is actively involved with numerous charities,<br />
including Best Buddies, D.C. Central Kitchen,<br />
ePals, See Forever Foundation, Street<br />
Soccer USA, Venture Phil<strong>an</strong>thropy Partners,<br />
YouthAIDS <strong>an</strong>d others through the work of the<br />
Leonsis Foundation.<br />
Mr. Leonsis also is the founder of SnagFilms,<br />
<strong>an</strong> online service that <strong>all</strong>ows audiences to find,<br />
watch, share <strong>an</strong>d support documentary films.<br />
Mr. Leonsis coined <strong>an</strong>d championed the term<br />
“film<strong>an</strong>thropy,” which refers to his unique way<br />
of combining film <strong>an</strong>d phil<strong>an</strong>thropy to raise<br />
awareness of import<strong>an</strong>t issues.
