Office of Airspace Regulation Page 20 of 69 3.3.4 Navigational Aid The only navigational aid provided is a NDB (frequency 371 KHz) located near the terminal building. 3.3.5 Landing Aids TRE does not have any visual landing aids (e.g. no PAPI). 3.3.6 Instrument Approaches TRE has a GPS Arrival Procedure, using the NDB, which is divided into three Sectors covering all tracks within 360 degrees. The Cat C aircraft circling minima is 1,000 ft AMSL for the GPS Arrival procedure. In addition to the GPS Arrival Procedure, TRE has two instrument approaches for pilots to choose from: � � � � NDB-A approach (Cat C circling minima is 890 ft AMSL); and RNAV (GNSS) RWY 22 approach (Cat C minima Straight In RWY 22 is 640 ft AMSL). 3.3.7 Radio Communications/Facilities Aircraft operating at TRE can access the following radio communication facilities: Flight Information Area (FIA) from Brisbane Centre on 120.55 MHz on the ground. CTAF frequency of 118.1 MHz. 3.3.8 Improvements/Developments The TRE airport is owned and operated by the Greater Taree/Manning Valley City Council. The council has published commercial development plans for aerodrome land however there is no current published airport master plan for additional runway development. The council states that it has been negotiating with State and Federal Government Agencies with a view to attracting large scale grant(s) to assist with providing the infrastructure for the development plans. Office of Airspace Regulation Page 21 of 69 4 Airspace The PMQ and TRE broadcast area is depicted on aviation charts as a large CTAF area and is classified as Class G airspace. For ease of description in this section this large CTAF broadcast area will be referred to as the “PMQ/TRE CTAF” area and each aerodrome will be referred to separately by its acronym. The airspace surrounding PMQ and TRE aerodromes is Class G airspace from the surface (SFC) to an altitude of 8,500 ft AMSL. In this location Class E airspace exists between 8,500 ft AMSL and Flight Level (FL) 180. Class A airspace exists above FL 180. 7 A CTAF is essentially a broadcast procedure normally used as an air/ground/air VHF radio frequency and not an ICAO Class of airspace or a defined volume of airspace. A CTAF can be used at any landing area and not just a purpose built aerodrome. As such, it generally has no defined vertical or lateral boundary. Where aerodromes are situated close together, and have traffic patterns that are of mutual interest to pilots at these aerodromes, there has often been a single CTAF frequency allocated to a particular area, which is marked on aeronautical charts. This single CTAF frequency allocated to a number of adjacent aerodromes is a different frequency to the Air Traffic Control (ATC) Area Frequency that is used in the wider area. The Area Frequency is not related to any particular aerodrome and it is used for pilot communications over a wide geographical area and to provide the relevant ATS services from Airservices. In the case of the PMQ/TRE CTAF area, the Area Frequency in the surrounding Class G airspace (and up to FL125) is 120.55 MHz and is provided from Brisbane Centre’s radio facility at Berrico. In addition to PMQ and TRE aerodromes all aerodromes and landing areas contained within the geographical area marked on the aeronautical charts (10 NM radius from PMQ and TRE aerodromes) have been allocated CTAF 118.1 MHz.
