The«New Castle, until this year the
the, world for fillies and mares, is
now replaced by the 1150,000 Delaware
Handicap in that capacity. For
the past two years, the New Castle
was a $100,000 added, mile and a
serves as a mile and a sixteenth ma.
The Distaff Big three, a sequence
Around the Fishing Beat
By DEAN ENGLISH
Flounders were the mainstay this
week as fishing crowds slowly in.
creased in the watera surrounding
the city. Heavy fog over the week
end disappointed some would-be
anglers who has a difficult time
finding their favorite spots In the
bad weather.
With Increasingly better weather
and the closing of schools hi the
metropolitan areas, hopes are high
that the coming week end's catch
will be a good one.
Fete Graham, at Anchor'n Point,
200 Bay av., reports that there were
many people out over the week end
and nobody should have been disappointed,
since every party had some
luck. <
Fred Brinkman, of this city, was
the champ, however, as he pulled in
84 flounders on Sunday, Bill Brinkman,
along with Dick Raymond, got
35 flounders the same day. The- same
two men brought back three bushels
of clams on the trip—big ones, too,
according to the report, A party
from Ohio brought in 20 flounders
on Monday, Graham adds,
"Seaway" Monday had little luck until
the last hour, when it picked up
considerably and some good sea bass
and a few porgies were boated. The
fog on Sunday made the sport dif.
ficult, but some flounder were
brought back, including one weighing
In at four pounds,
". . • • ' * • .
Flounders and a few kings were
reported by Lemont's pier at 308 Bay
av. on Sunday and Monday. Dene
Lukens, Frank Shaw and "Eddie
Moran, of Philadelphia, were the
top anglers on Sunday, This group
captured 59 flounders and one lone
weakflsh. Lukens and Moran went
out again on Monday and brought
back 37 more of the same kind.
Other good catches of flounder
reported at Lemont's were IB caught
by Harry Klause and j; P, Miller of
Ocean Cityi the same number landed
by James Buckley and his daughter
and son-in-law tram Darby, Pa,, and.
IB credited to Norman Harbolt, of
Philly,
Late last week, Sam Wilson, of the
rertrt, landed a large perch in addition
to about 20 kingfish and
flounders, Bill Travllla of Philadel.
phia brought in nine flounders on
Monday and Mrs, -Hughes, Miss
Camarola and young Robbie Hughes
pulled eight flounders out of the bay
ihe same day. Half of the latter to<
tal was pulled out by young Hughes,
Captain Ted Allen at Allen's at
324 Bay av. -reports that crowds
fishing off the public pier at the loot
of 4th st. were having good luck and
pulled in at least 75 flounders on
Sunday,
