PARISH COUNCIL INFORMATION Berrington Parish Council Berrington Parish Council meets at 7pm on the 1st Thursday of every month (except August and sometimes December) at the Chapel Community Centre. Berrington Parish Council consists of nine elected or co-opted Parish Councillors: Claire Wild (Chair); Richard Purslow (Vice-Chair); Claire Bonsey; Eric Brayne; Julia Brayne; Steve Hawksworth; James Healey; Sue Mason and Lezley Picton. News from your Shropshire Councillor Claire Wild BERRINGTON PARISH - PROPOSED COMMUNITY HUB IN CROSS HOUSES Thanks to all of the residents who attended the Extraordinary Parish Council Meeting on Tuesday 17th July. Currently the Parish of Berrington is designated as “Open Countryside” and as such no open market housing would be permitted under the new Local Plan (up until 2036). However, this meeting was called because Shropshire Council wrote to the Parish Council to explain that they had made a mistake in their calculations when considering the Parish, and now consider Cross Houses t to be a Community Hub as part of the new Local Plan. The notes from the Planning Policy Officer, who attended the meeting, are printed in their entirety overleaf. By designating the parish as a Community Hub this would allow some development of open market housing within a defined, development boundary. I was extremely disappointed, as were the other members of the Parish Council, that at the 11th hour this mistake had come to light. It was very clear at the meeting, from those present, that Cross Houses has seen enough development over the past few years and that more development was not welcome. The Parish Council will robustly challenge the 2018 assessment figures (see table overleaf) as we believe the points tally is overstated. Due to the very tight timescales (the Planning Policy officers are looking to finalise their report by the end of August) representatives from the Parish Council will meet with the Planning Policy officers to discuss options on the way forward. The Parish Council will update residents at the next Parish Council meeting on the 6th September, 7pm.
