Message
Dear fellow Rotarians,
I
am pleased to welcome you to the induction
and turn-over ceremonies of the
Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro of District
3870.
Since Rotary was founded 113 years ago, its
role in the world and in the lives of its members
has been in a state of continuous evolution.
In its earliest days, Rotary offered its
members a way to find fellowship and friendship
and to build connections within their
communities. Soon after, service found a
place in Rotary, and as our organization expanded,
so did its influence. In time, Rotary’s
service, supported by our Rotary Foundation,
would change the lives of families and communities
across the world. We formed partnerships
and focused our service to increase
our impact. We launched the world’s largest
public-private health initiative, partnering
with governments, international organizations,
and countless local and regional health
agencies to eradicate polio. More and more,
our members came to us seeking not just
friendship but a way to take action for good.
Rotary still is, and always will be, the organization
Paul Harris envisioned: a place where
people from every corner of the earth can
come together to become something greater
than themselves. Yet Rotary today offers
something of singular and enduring value:
the chance to be part of a global network of
people who have the talent and the drive to
change the world. We are men and women
4
who believe in the power of community action
to make a global impact — and together,
we have the capacity and the resources to
achieve almost anything.
Rotary service transforms lives and communities.
To achieve even more of that truly
transformational service, we need to think
differently about our role in Rotary, and Rotary’s
role in the world. We need to put more
emphasis on our public image, using social
media to build our membership and attract
the partners that can help us scale up our
service. We need to focus on larger projects
that have a more lasting impact, taking the
time to research and plan work that spans
Rotary years and terms of office. Most important
of all, we need to Be the Inspiration
for positive change, inspiring our clubs, our
communities, and our organization to face
today’s challenges head on, with courage,
optimism, and creativity.
BARRY RASSIN
President, Rotary International, 2018-19

Message
M
y dear Fellow Rotarians of the Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro.
It is with deep appreciation and honour that you have given me the chance to witness
this wonderful and memorable Induction of the Gentlemen, Lovely Anns and Officers
who will serve for the Inspiring Year 2018-2019.
Your continued existence for the past 70 years has proven so many times, that your service to
humanity anchored on the time honoured principle of service above-self have been a milestone
as volunteers.
Today, the new leaders of the club and their spouses will pour their talents and resources for
another greater height of humanitarian service.
As we join our hands this Inspiring Year for the Inspiring Team holding on the RI theme ―Be the
Inspiration‖, and as your District leader, it is my distinct honor to lead you to where happiness to
serve humanity is waiting for us this Rotary Year.
Again, to the new Officers of the Club and the Lovely Anns, let us celebrate the start of our journey
to inspire the community as our partners.
Congratulations to the new set of Officers.
May the Almighty and Divine Creator bless us all.
Yours in Rotary Service,
FRANCISCO “FRANK” D. MANGA
Message
O
nce more, we look up to the upcoming
Rotary year 2018 - 2019 with
guarded optimism and excitement as
we continue to carry out our mandate of
SERVICE ABOVE SELF, despite the challenges
we have to hurdle as individual family men
or as members of RCCDO, the greatest club.
For a start, life as a Rotarian has always
been exciting. Synthesizing ideas coming
from our youthful members, the elders and
the Rotary International has been a quite
challenging management procedure. Young
minds would prefer to ―think out of the box‖
wanting to make the club more responsive
and realistic to the needs of the present environment.
Our more learned and experienced
elders would want to be more cautious,
staying on a course guided by the time
tested traditional ways. Rotary International
would require that all programs and procedures
be based on established international
standards. On the whole, working hard to be
relevant to the community while keeping in
mind these interlocking factors has made our
Rotary days even more challenging and fulfilling.
Our work is even more enjoyable and less
burdensome as our lovely Rotary Annes have
been engrossed in service projects complimenting
our club efforts. In fact, they have
mapped out their plans and programs for the
year in synch with what we intended to do. A
relevant community work undertaken by us
Rotarians in partnership with our lovely Anns
is a perfect recipe for an exciting, fulfilling
and enjoyable Rotary life.
As we strive to be more relevant to the community,
let us keep in mind that Rotary is a
place where we gather purposely to become
something greater than ourselves. We are all
aware that the present time has been so
hard with so many members of our community.
Hence, we need to be more aggressive
in undertaking service projects that would
greatly impact on the lives of our beneficiaries.
With everyone’s cooperation and dedicated
sense of service, I am confident that the
goals we have set shall be realized and even
surpassed. With this, I wish everyone good
luck as we endeavor to BE THE INSPIRA-
TION to our fellow Rotarians and the community.
RTN. DANILO EMPEDRAD
President, 2018-2019
Message
A
s the saying goes, there is a time for everything. My time has indeed come to take on the
leadership of the Rotary Anns of RC CDO. The encouragement and support of my fellow
Rotary Anns, with the guidance of the Almighty God, had made me reached this decision
to accept the duties and responsibilities of the President with humility and gratefulness.
Though I would prefer to be a mere member, and rest on my laurels. But as I thought about it, I
realized that accepting the call for greater responsibility is a means to greater service to the community.
And greater service to the community is an opportunity of touching more lives with the
hope of creating positive change in their lives for a better world.
To my fellow Rotary Anns, as we look forward to another challenging and yet exciting year, let us
BE THE INSPIRATION to our Rotarian spouses to do more, to create more changes in order to
make this world a better place. Let us INSPIRE one another through our active participation and
support in our monthly meetings, projects, and fellowships.....thereby building camaraderie, and
creating positive impact to the communities.
To Immediate Past President Angie and her board, congratulations for a job well done!
To my fellow officers, let us do our active role to the club, and work together for a successful
Rotary year. My warmest best wishes to all.
OPHELIA PAANO
President, 2018-19
Biography:
Danilo T. Empedrad,
President
RY 2018-2019
P
resident Danny is a retired Police Commissioned
Officer. He bowed out of
the service in 2010 after more than 37
years in the active service, first in the defunct
Philippine Constabulary and later on, in
the Philippine National Police. He is happily
married to the former Juliet Tarectecan of
Malaybalay. The couple raised four kids: Earl
Daniel, Nadyne Astrid, Julalee Mae and
Jaydee who have all grown up and are raising
their own families. In addition to the
brood, the family is blessed with eight lovable
grandchildren.
He was born and raised in the province of
Cagayan in Northern Luzon where he took up
and hurdled his elementary and high school
courses, together with his three sibling, Gilbert,
Gerry and Sonie.
After a two year stint as an Engineering student
of UP Diliman, he endeavored to try his
luck with the Uniformed Services where he
was accepted to the Philippine Military Academy
in April 1973. He graduated from the
Academy in 1977 and was appointed as a
Commissioned Officer of the then Philippine
Constabulary.
His first job as an Officer brought him to a
number of places in the island of Mindanao,
actively involved in peacekeeping operations.
There he met his lovely wife and started
raising a family together.
In 1982, he was called in to the PMA in Baguio
city to serve his Alma Mater as an instructor
and Tactical Officer. This time, his
job involved the training and disciplining of
cadets to become future leaders and shapers
of the nation’s history.
In 1987, he was recalled to the field where
he participated in the peacekeeping operations
in the Cagayan Valley region. Five
years later, he transferred to the Central
Luzon plains where he was exposed to police
work in the field as an operator and in
the office as a Staff Officer. After serving
Central Luzon for almost ten years, he set
foot at Camp Crame the very heart of the
Police organization. There he helped make
out plans and programs to serve as operating
guidelines for our police personnel and
improve police services.
Finally, in 2005, he returned to Mindanao
where he started. He served in Northern
Mindanao up the time he retired compulsorily
in May, 2010.
President Danny is now actively involved in
a company based in the city that provides
private security services. He is likewise into
farming as he tills a piece of farmland in the
province of Bukidnon. But what keeps him
up and about is keeping an eye and caring
for his eight grandchildren who are fast
growing up.
He joined the Rotary Club of Cagayan de
Oro a few years back and was designated a
number of Directorship positions. Lately, he
was elected the Club Vice President, until
his designation as the President – Elect of
RCCDO.
GETTING TO KNOW
OUR CLUB
by RTN Loy Velez
(Updated: 2018)
The Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro, originally
the Rotary Club of Cagayan de Misamis,
was organized on 23 April 1948. Its first officers
were Isidro Vamenta — President, Hernando
Pineda — Vice-President, Ernesto
Tamparong —Secretary; and Cesar Malferrari,
Delfin Rabe, Indong Elizalde and Roque
Chavez Directors. From a small group 17
charter members, it has constantly grown
over the years.
In 1980, it was given the District's Most Outstanding
Award, overall and Class A Group
for achieving the highest club attendance
average. The club also carries the distinction
of having had the largest number delegates
among all the clubs of the four Rotary Districts
in the Diamond conference held in
March 1979 at the PICC Metro Manila.
The club holds its regular meetings noontime
on Thursdays at the Mallberry Suites Business
Hotel, Osmena Street, Cagayan de Oro .
While proceedings are often marked by spirited
exchange of ideas and opinions the club
members do not suffer any diminution of the
camaraderie and fellowship developed by
their togetherness infrequently held Rotary
