GETTING TO KNOW
OUR CLUB
by RTN Loy Velez
(Updated: 2018)
The Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro, originally
the Rotary Club of Cagayan de Misamis,
was organized on 23 April 1948. Its first officers
were Isidro Vamenta — President, Hernando
Pineda — Vice-President, Ernesto
Tamparong —Secretary; and Cesar Malferrari,
Delfin Rabe, Indong Elizalde and Roque
Chavez Directors. From a small group 17
charter members, it has constantly grown
over the years.
In 1980, it was given the District's Most Outstanding
Award, overall and Class A Group
for achieving the highest club attendance
average. The club also carries the distinction
of having had the largest number delegates
among all the clubs of the four Rotary Districts
in the Diamond conference held in
March 1979 at the PICC Metro Manila.
The club holds its regular meetings noontime
on Thursdays at the Mallberry Suites Business
Hotel, Osmena Street, Cagayan de Oro .
While proceedings are often marked by spirited
exchange of ideas and opinions the club
members do not suffer any diminution of the
camaraderie and fellowship developed by
their togetherness infrequently held Rotary
affairs.
Rotary information and reports on club doings
are generally disseminated by the club's
bulletin, the Kagayanon, which has been recipient
of two District Awards for being best
both in overall and Category A.
In the course of its life as member of the
Rotary International family, RCCDO has established
and/or maintained a Boy's Town
serving the needs of orphans or abandoned
young boys, provided free cleft surgery
(INTERPLAST) and care to children, Health
'Clinics, Hospital Wards, and traffic safety
devices, among other useful contributions
towards the people's health and well-being.
Further, it has participated strongly in city
beautification projects and in almost every
significant activity for the promotion of community
in-tersest and welfare. It has extended
aid and assistance to the handicapped and
the disabled and provided relief to victims of
calamities.
