Youths show off skills in library talent show

As the annual summer
reading programs wraps up
this week, the Mokena Community
Public Library District
gave its participants a
chance to take to the stage
on July 24 to perform an act.
Participants in grades
fourth through eighth showcased
their talent before
other summer reading participants
and their families
in a talent show.
“We decided to have this
program so they can show
their stuff,” Director of
Young Adults Wendy Asbridge
said.
The Summer Reading Program
is held every summer
but programs vary every year.
The last time they held a talent
show as part of the reading
program was four years ago.
Performances varied from
singing to playing instruments
to dancing.
Mokena resident Emily
Arduinn, 13, did an Irish
dance as her performance.
“I like performing and
showing people what I’ve
got,” Arduinn said. “I compete
in competitions through
Hughes Farrelly Irish Dance
in New Lenox. I’ve been Irish
dancing since second grade.”
New Lenox resident Siena
Adducci, 10, performed the
Harry Potter theme song on
the piano dressed as a Hogwarts
student. She said she
learned the song on her own
without lessons, and chose
the song because she is a big
fan of the series.
“I like to play the piano,
it makes me feel good,” Adducci
said. “I went to Universal
Studios and recently won
all eight Harry Potter books
from the New Lenox library.
I really like Harry Potter and
enjoy showing my talent.”
Mokena resident Raegan
Fuller, 11, played “Mary
Had a Little Lamb” on the
recorder for her act.
“I felt good about it. I decided
to do this because I really
love music,” Fuller said.
Participants of the summer
reading talent show brought
home trophies and plastic
medals for their effort.
“It’s always fun to see
what they come up with,”
Asbridge said.
