Police Reports
Police: Both parties in crash without valid DL
Austin P. Larson, 18, of
17195 Highwood Drive in
Orland Park, was charged
July 12 with driving on a
suspended/revoked driver’s
license; while Keith A. Bass,
43, of 225 Culen St., in Rensselaer,
Indiana, was charged
with driving on a suspended/
revoked driver’s license, operating
an uninsured motor
vehicle, improper use of registration
and failure to yeild
while turning left.
According to police reports,
an officer responded
to a report of a two-vehicle
crash with injuries at the intersection
of West LaPorte
Road and South LaGrange
Road. Upon arrival, the officer
located Larson standing
next to his motorcycle,
which had front-end damage.
Larson told the officer that
he was traveling southbound
on LaGrange in the left turn
lane when Bass turned in
front of him. Larson said he
laid his motorcycle down to
try to avoid a collision and
suffered injuries to his arm
and head.
The officer asked Larson
for his driver’s license,
which Larson said was suspended.
A check on the license
confirmed this, and
showed Larson had no motorcycle
endorsement, as
well. Larson was then placed
under arrest.
Bass was also arrested after
it was determined that he
was driving on a suspended
driver’s license. Additionally,
Bass was found to be
using a registration for a
different vehicle on the one
involved in the accident and
did not have valid insurance
for the vehicle.
Metra recently announced
that it will begin replacing
the inbound platform at the
Hickory Creek station Monday,
July 30.
The east end of the inbound
platform will be out
of service for six weeks.
Board
effort into making it work.
We know you don’t do it all
by yourself, and there are an
awful lot of people that make
something like this work. But
this is your baby, and you enjoy
the heck out of doing this
— and it shows. It gets bigger
and better every year. We
thank you very much.”
During that time, the station
track side door will be
closed, as will the two pedestrian
crossings, ramps,
and stairs located on the
east side of the station. In
addition, all designated
handicapped parking on the
east side will be unavailable.
During construction, the
pedestrian crosswalk at
the west end of the station
will remain open to allow
access to the platforms;
however, in light of the
congestion, Metra advises
commuters to budget extra
time to access the platform
and board.
Speed limit increase
considered
Later in the evening, during
the work session, a potential
speed limit change on
88th Avenue was discussed.
Vaccaro said that several
months ago he was contacted
by some motorists with
regard to the speed limit on
88th Avenue, between 187th
and 191st Streets.
“In response to that, working
with engineering, we did
a traffic study in that area,”
Vaccaro said. “In excess of
2,700 vehicles per day travel
88th Avenue on that stretch
of roadway. The traffic study
supported a speed limit increase,
although it recommended
about 40 mph based
on the evaluation and data.”
After consulting with the
engineering team, Vaccaro
said the recommendation to
the Village Board is to increase
the speed limit from
25 mph to 35 mph for both
north and southbound traffic.
“The reason for that is that
area is not completely developed,”
Vaccaro said.
The board members expressed
support for this
change. It will come before
the Village Board again at a
future meeting.
