Let’s Be Real
About Cellulite
Hiding those frustrating dimples can be exhausting for women
especially in the summer months. Cellulite occurs in 80 to 90
percent of women of all ages and body shapes.
Diet and exercise have been shown to improve the appearance of cellulite but
cannot cure it. There is also a genetic component to these pesky fibrous bands
that women just simply cannot escape. Rather than doing squats at the gym all
day, there are now better options for improving the appearance of cellulite.
Cellulite is the herniation, or protrusion of fat through fibrous connective tissue that
appears as skin dimpling. Typically it is found on the abdomen, legs, and buttocks, and is
most common in women. Some of the main causes of cellulite have been found to include
weight gain or loss, lack of muscle tone, poor circulation, hormonal changes and genetics.
Eating a plant heavy diet and drinking plenty of water may help to keep excess weight off but
also helps with the fibrous bands being supple and supported. Firming and toning muscles
with weight bearing exercises underneath the areas of cellulite have also been shown to be
effective in reducing cellulite.
Due to the unmet need of effective help for cellulite, body contouring devices are becoming
increasingly popular among modern aesthetic practices. ZWave by Zimmer
Aesthetics is a handheld German device using electro-magnetically generated Radial
Pulse Technology. The high energy acoustic waves have been shown to improve
blood circulation and impact the collagen structure and skin connective tissue.
ZWave simulates collagen formation and the treated skin becomes more firm and
improves elasticity with a few treatments. The device is able to break down cellulite
fibrous connective bands leading to collapse of gas bubbles within the fat
structure (cavitation) and thereby improves the appearance of fat.
ZWave can be a standalone application or in combination with other treatments.
It has been shown to be successful in treating the appearance of cellulite grades
1-3 (mild to moderate dimpling). Clear changes are visible after 2 to 3 sessions with
best results occurring after 6 to 10 sessions. Treatments are spaced out every 2 to 3
days and take about 10 minutes per leg. The procedure is non-invasive with no down
time. It’s a pain-free application, affordable, and produces impressive results.
ZWave is now being utilized for combination treatments with other fat destroying devices
and liposuction to help increase the lymphatic drainage and circulation post operatively.
Becoming increasingly popular is its ability to help with sports injuries and muscle
tension with its acoustic vibratory ability that can be tailored to fit the needs of each patient.
Aesthetic treatments can be coupled with this device to increase patient satisfaction with
results. It can be used a few days after Kybella, an injectable used for fat dissolving, to help
reduce post procedure swelling to the treated area and decrease the risk of possible nodule formation.
It can be utilized after injecting filler into parts of the body to improve overall smoothness
and even dispersion of the product
