Kirk Session Report
Wednesday 13 th June
The Moderator updated Session on an event in Galashiels for the Year of Young
People. It was entitled ‘Growing young’ and gave rise to the idea to revive a youth
group within our church. Could we replace the evening service with a service for
young people? Ideas were forthcoming and it was thought best to get a group of
younger people together to help and also to find out what our young people might
want. Anyone with ideas or willing to get involved should contact Calum on email:
calum@topcop.org.uk or phone 720568.
Fees for funerals: as this is a service of a parish church it was agreed to leave the
fees as they were.
Ordination of Elders: a list of names was given to the Moderator of people who
might be approached to see how they felt about becoming Elders. It was also
discussed about producing a list of duties required for Eldership so that people
would have more idea of what it was about. As the number of current Elders is
decreasing thought was also given to a list of things for which help is needed and
seeing if anyone would be interested in helping with certain tasks.
TOPCOP Finance Report – 13 June 2018
1.Statement of Financial Activities
The Statement for first quarter to 31 March was circulated.
At this stage it was too early to draw any conclusions. Overall we are broadly on
target.
There was a surplus for the quarter of £6,024, which is slightly above the budget
figure. The main reason why there is a surplus at the end of March is because the
10 instalments to the Ministries & Mission do not start until March.
2. Bank Balance - The balance on the Treasurer’s Account at 13 June was
£33,391.55
3. Salaries - At the previous Kirk Session it was remitted to the Finance Committee
with powers to review the staff salaries. The Committee agreed that an increase of
3% should be applied across the board and this will be implemented with effect
from1 June.
4. Meet and Make - We now have 2 offers of grant.
The first is from Tesco from whom we are to receive £4,000 and thanks are due to
everyone who made that possible by putting tokens in the voting box. This money
should be paid into the Outreach Account shortly.
We have also received an offer of £2,000, from Foundation Scotland and the
money from them should paid shortly.
