We have received a donation £170.10 from the Tweeddale Petanque Club which will be the first money to be lodged in the Outreach bank account. With those grants and donation the Meet and Make Club will be funded for at least one year and can now get underway. Applications were still in the pipeline with Awards for All and the Robertson Trust, subject to clarifying some details. Discussions with the Robertson Trust were ongoing. If either or both of those come up with an offer, this will allow the classes to be held weekly rather than fortnightly at present. Fabric: Church Bells maintenance service & recommendation - agreed to annual service and renew deteriorating cables. Church Audio system, projector failure- submitted for information, investigation ongoing. Church heating system, update on newly installed controller submitted for information. Song School slated roof repair- recommended lowest quotation- approved. Church and Manse slated roof annual maintenance- recommended lowest quotation-approved Church Hall Male toilet urinals, upgrade- recommended quotation received, submitted for action. Church Hall heating system, filter to Central heating installed 20th May 2018. Proposed Church noticeboard, Advertisement application, Requested Listed Building Consent application submitted, await Planning conclusion. Feral Pigeons -Environmental Pest Control company confirmed they will install bird deterrents previously agreed, in early July 2018. Fire Risk Assessment- Document submitted is under review by Fabric Committee, when complete a copy and report will be issued to the Kirk Session with our comments. Peebles Churches Together – Tweed Togs is a voluntary organisation supplying clothes to people in need for 0 – 12 year olds. There are collection points around Peebles – flyer on the notice board has details. Praying Together – TOPCOP hosted the session on 30 th May when it was decided to make it a Pilgrimage around the Church. Those attending found it thought provoking and good feedback has been received. Christian Aid – amount collected was up on last year Jim Benton-Evans, the Minister at St Peters has now moved to Glasgow and St Joseph’s now has a new permanent priest. Chattabox which is run 6 th – 11 th August for children is needing helpers. Anyone interested please contact Janette Cameron. Session is grateful to Janette as she will continue to be our rep on PCT Ruby Buchan has now tendered her resignation from the Magazine and we hope to finds someone to take over this role.
Words of Wisdom Set the Right Example ‘He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, just as his father…had done’ 2 Chronicles 26:4 NIV The punch line in a cartoon reads, ‘No matter what we teach our children, they insist on behaving just like us!’ We smile, but it’s a very serious matter. One expert says, ‘We teach what we know, but we reproduce what we are.’ Your children may sometimes doubt what you say, but they will always believe what you do. So; 1 If you want them to have a quiet time with God, you have one. 2 If you want your children to be in church, take them, don’t send them. 3 If you don’t want your children using foul language, watch what comes out of your mouth. 4 If you don’t want your children to smoke, drink, or do drugs, you leave them alone. When you say one thing but do another your children may still love you, but eventually they’ll lose respect for you. And what’s worse, they’ll think, ‘If the principles you preach don’t work for you, why should I try them?’ Your example will have more impact than all your exhortations. Read these two scriptures carefully. The first is found in the Old Testament: ‘He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, just as his father…had done.’ The second is found in the New Testament: ‘I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.’ 2 Timothy 1:5 NIV. Thousands of years separate those two scriptures, but the truth they teach is timeless: set the right example.
