Village Voice August/September 2018
THE PENN 7
& SUPER FUN RUN
Following another year of preparations,
when sometimes with all the bureaucracy
we now have to jump through, it seemed
as if it might not happen - with the
magnificent support from an army of
volunteers, the 2018 Super Fun Run and
Penn 7 came to fruition...
The races attracted yet more large fields, 301
runners for the Penn 7, 459 for the Fun Run and
69 for the Mini Marathons, great numbers and
great support for the 35th running (sic) of this
fantastic village event. You, the villagers came
out in droves during the day, though it might
have been a tad warmer, but thanks to you all
for giving your support to the event.
I would like to start off, on behalf of the
organising committee, by saying a VERY
VERY BIG THANK YOU to the wonderful
volunteers who performed the most important
role of the weekend, marshalling the junctions
and points on the route of both courses. Without
your efforts, the races would not have been able
to take place, but you provided a secure and safe
environment for all the
runners, and there were no
reported incidents, so you
all did a brilliant job!
This year we were
raising monies for Sparkles
and Charlies Footsteps, so
to Jo and Tim Oliver, (and
Charlie) thanks for
organising your group to man the inflatables on
the day, also to Steve and his bar staff, and John
and Debbie and their BBQ team. The music
during the afternoon provided great talent and
entertainment, so thanks to all the performers.
Having moved to chip timing for the Penn7,
which is usually expected these days for the
organised road races, we also moved into new
technology using card readers to take payments,
which is something we are looking to expand
next year!
The Fun Run, still being
recorded manually, relys
on the finishing team,
thanks to those who stood
in to issue numbers, record
placings and deliver
medals, we are human, and
sometimes things get
missed, but we think at the
end of the day, everyone
got a finishing position!!
We may consider chip
timing for the Fun Run in
the future, but that will
incur slight price increases.
