“The Nazi Titanic”
presented by Dr. Robert Watson
3:00 p.m. Main Dining Room
Dr. Robert Watson is an American scholar, researcher,
author, and lecturer. His brilliance in research
and uncovering previously untold stories of
history will keep you spellbound. Join us as he tells
the true story of the German ocean liner SS Cap
Arcona. Built in 1927, it was the greatest ship
since the RMS Titanic and one of the most celebrated
luxury liners in the world. When the Nazis
seized control in Germany, she was stripped down
for use as a floating barracks and troop transport.
The German navy used the Cap Arcona to transport
German soldiers and civilians across the
Baltic, away from the Red Army’s advance. In the
Third Reich’s final days, the ill-fated ship was
packed with thousands of concentration camp prisoners.
Without adequate water, food, or sanitary
facilities, the prisoners suffered as they waited for
the end of the war. Just days before Germany surrendered,
the Cap Arcona was mistakenly bombed
by the British Royal Air Force, and nearly all of the
prisoners were killed in the last major tragedy of
the Holocaust and one of history’s worst maritime
disasters. The Nazi Titanic is a riveting and astonishing
account of an enigmatic ship that played a
devastating role in World War II and the Holocaust.
Cost is $10 per person.
“The Kitty Genovese Murder Case and How
it Sparked the 911 Emergency System”
presented by Stephen Singer Esq.
7:30 p.m. Imperial Room
It was only one of the many murders that occurred
in New York that year, but it shocked the nation.
It was the murder with 38 “witnesses” who supposedly
heard and did nothing. It was the murder
that branded New York as a cold, uncaring place
for decades thereafter…and it wasn’t true. It gave
rise to the 911 system, having EMT’s and medical
equipment on ambulances, neighborhood watch
groups and Good Samaritan Laws nationwide.
Attorney Singer’s law firm defended the man who
killed Kitty. He lived one block from the murder
scene and the trial happened across the street
from his law office! Cost is $5 per person.
