Romulus and Remus
Romulus and Remus
This well-known Roman legend, written during the first century BC, is about the founding of
Rome. It was written by a Roman historian called Livy, whose books were often an interesting
mixture of legend and facts.
The Roman god Mars is mentioned only briefly in the story, for the Romans, unlike the Greeks, did not favour
legends about their gods. Their stories were about the Romans themselves—their heroes, early Roman
history, family relationships etc.
