Sometime between Aug. 3-5, a burglar pried open the door of a house in the 2000 block of Cambria Court and stole jewelry and watches before taking a 2006 Bentley from the garage. The reported loss is $40,000, although the vehicle was eventually located by the Chicago Police Department in the 7400 block of S. Stewart Avenue in Chicago. A few days later, between 1:30-6:35 a.m. on Aug. 8, a 2017 Kia Forte was stolen from a driveway in the 3200 block of Sandy Lane. The vehicle had been left unlocked with the keys inside the cabin. The reported loss is $16,000. Then, at approximately 7:10 p.m. on Aug. 10, a 2017 Toyota Camry was stolen from an open garage in the 1300 block of Sleepy Hollow Road. The key FOB had been left inside the vehicle. The reported loss is unknown, although the vehicle was recovered later that day in Park Ridge. Most recently, between midnight-9 a.m. on Aug. 12, a 2015 Mazda CX-5 was stolen from a driveway in the 1000 block of Raleigh Road. The key FOB may have been left inside the vehicle. The reported loss is $32,000. In other police news: Aug. 14 • Lawrence Redman, 25, of Chicago, was charged with unlawful possession of fraudulent identification card at 7:15 p.m. in the 1200 block of Milwaukee Avenue. Aug. 11 • An air cleaner cover was stolen off a 1994 Harley Davidson motorcycle between 7:30-10:20 p.m. in the 200 block of Waukegan Road. The reported loss is $200. Aug. 10 • A wallet was stolen from a work locker at 9:14 a.m. in the 2600 block of Patriot Boulevard. The victim’s credit cards were then used to make several purchase at various locations in Indiana. The reported loss is approximately $3,800. • Both of a BMW’s driverside doors were scratched at 9:55 a.m. while it was parked at a business in the 0-100 block of Waukegan Road. The reported loss is $1,000. • Computer hardware and jewelry were stolen from a home at 9:40 p.m. in the 1600 block of Woodlawn Avenue. The reported loss is $5,000. Aug. 9 • A woman stole two Kate Spade earrings from a store at 4:55 p.m. in the 1900 block of Tower Drive. The reported loss is $58. Aug. 8 • A wallet was stolen from an unlocked vehicle during the overnight hours in the 3100 block of Mary Kay Lane. The reported loss is $160. • The bushes alongside a house were damaged at 4:48 p.m. in the 1000 block of Woodlawn Road. The reported loss is $1,500. • A man was harassing customers by begging for money and asking if they wanted to buy weed at 9:53 a.m. in the 9700 block of Milwaukee Avenue. The man was located and given a trespass warning. No drugs were found. • Someone shattered the front, passenger-side window of a vehicle and then stole a purse from the interior at 11:19 p.m. in the 3800 block of Willow Road. The reported loss is $1,030. Aug. 7 • Two wallets and a laptop were stolen from two unlocked vehicles parked on the same driveway during the overnight hours in the 2300 block of Sussex Lane. The reported loss is $600. • Laundry was stolen from a communal dryer during the overnight hours in the 1000 block of Castilian Court. The reported loss is $100. Man exposes genitalia to pedestrian — fifth similar incident since March Staff report A man exposed his genitalia to a woman who was walking westbound in the 1900 block of Willow Road. According to police, the man was standing off the sidewalk near bushes and exposed himself as the complainant passed through the area at approximately 12:53 p.m. on Aug. 10. The woman left the scene without further problems. The culprit was described as a white, 170-pound male with white hair between the ages of 50-60. His height was estimated at 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-10. He was wearing a black baseball cap, medium gray shirt, camouflage shorts and gym shoes. This was the fifth similar incident since March. THE WINNETKA CURRENT ‘Johnny, no!’: Alleged details of Northfield murder disclosed in court Based on the charges facing the suspect of a Northfield shooting, John Gately III, of Winnetka, a Cook County judge ruled Thursday, Aug. 16, in bond court that there will be no bail set for the suspect. Gately, 66, was charged with one count of homicide for the killing his brother-in-law Stephen Shapiro, 72, of Northfield, and one count of attempted homicide for trying to kill Joan Shapiro, Stephen’s wife and Gately’s sister, on Monday, Aug. 13, at their residence in the 200 block of Latrobe Avenue. In court, Assistant State’s Attorney Andreana Turano detailed the shooting as well as its circumstances, while a handcuffed Gately stood at the neighboring lectern in a powder blue, two-piece jail uniform. With wide eyes behind his glasses, he stared forward at Judge Anjana M.J. Hansen, appearing emotionless. Gately, according to his Chicago-based attorney Michael J. Petro, will plead not guilty to the crimes. The night of the murder, the Shapiros were at their home “listening to meditation after finishing a quiet dinner,” Turano detailed, when the doorbell rang. On May 11, a male in his early 20s wearing a black jacket, black hoodie and black backpack was masturbating in a gas station in the 1900 block of Willow Road but left the premises after an employee threatened to call the police. And most recently, on June 1, a man was masturbating while walking through the Carillon Square parking lot, according to a witness. Police weren’t notified until the next day.
