Style Magazine, Roseville, Granite Bay, & Rocklin; September 18

Whether it’s the work perks, camaraderie with fellow co-workers, or a passion for the business’ product or service, there are many components that play into a company’s “cool” factor. Where we live, we’re lucky to have a ton of places that meet all the criteria above, plus more, which was the inspiration behind this month’s feature. Starting on page 39, you can read about 17 places headquartered here that anyone would be lucky to work at. Some have been around for over a century, others started small and are now internationally known, and a few have dog-friendly digs or do impressive amounts of community service. I’m pretty positive there’s a company, and office culture, that’ll strike a chord with you. And if you happen to be job hunting, word on the street is some are currently hiring! Wherever you’re at in your professional or personal journey, let this issue be a reminder that it’s never too late to flip the script and try something new. Cheers!

GUIDE
What’s the coolest company you’ve
ever worked for? For me, that
question is impossible to answer,
as each place has had its fair
share of pros. From my first job as
a “sandwich artist” at Auburn’s
Maidu Market where I could walk
to work, consume all the subs I craved, and was
once given free tickets to Coldplay (courtesy
of a loyal customer); to a summer bartending
gig at The Westin San Diego where I posted up
poolside and mixed mai tais for guests soaking
up the sun, there have been many monumental
memories. Even in my current role, I can’t
complain. Product samples aplenty, a laid-back
work environment, gratis granola bars and the
ability to connect with our community while
getting to be creative are all
reasons why I’ve been here
for over eight years now.
Whether it’s the work
perks, camaraderie with
fellow co-workers, or a
passion for the business’
product or service, there are
many components that play
“Inner peace begins
the moment you
choose not to allow
another person or
event to control
your emotions.”—
Unknown
into a company’s “cool” factor. Where we live,
we’re lucky to have a ton of places that meet
all the criteria above, plus more, which was
the inspiration behind this month’s feature.
Starting on page 39, you can read about 17
places headquartered here that anyone would
be lucky to work at. Some have been around
for over a century, others started small and
are now internationally known, and a few have
In other news this month, September is
National Yoga Month, which means it’s a prime
time to put all your fears or assumptions about
the practice aside (no, you don’t have to be
female, flexible, or affluent) and give it a try.
To help you get inspired, we have “10 Off-the-
Beaten-Mat Yoga Classes” in Health & Wellness
(page 22)—offerings that run the gamut from
goat yoga (yes, it’s a thing and yes, it’s available
locally) to a sculpt class that incorporates
weights and cardio to really push you to your
edge. There’s even a sidebar about a nonprofit
(Sacramento Free Yoga) whose website lists
complimentary classes around the region.
Once you sign up, turn to Swag on page 36 for
a roundup of omazing products that’ll help you
start your asana in style. As someone dedicated
to downward dogging, I can honestly say that
yoga has made me a kinder, stronger, and more
present person—not to mention saved me from
having multiple meltdowns.
Wherever you’re at in your professional or
personal journey, let this issue be a reminder
that it’s never too late to flip the script and try
something new. Cheers!
