EXPLORE THE WORLD
Minimum suggested time: 60 minutes
Students will use the Director’s Vision to reimagine the world of the ballet. They will quickly
generate ideas for sets or costumes through quick sketches, modelling, rendering and draping.
ACTIVITY 7: 10 Minutes to
Sketch the Vision
At this stage your students will have chosen
Director’s Vision and made a moodboard of
it. Use this activity to quickly generate rough
ideas at the start of the lesson, using the
chosen Director’s Vision as inspiration:
l Set Design: Give the students 9 minutes
to sketch 1 scene from each act
(3 minutes per scene).
l Costume Design: Ask the students to
choose 1 act and give them 9 minutes
to sketch 3 characters’ costumes
Once the time is up, ask your students to
discuss their sketches with a partner, who
should ask them questions about how they’ve
used the vision and identify the stronger and
weaker parts of their designs. You can repeat
this exercise several times if you have time.
