Values
Jessica Loera is a junior on
the Griffins girls golf team
How’d you get started
in golf?
I started playing when I
was about 10 years old. My
dad really influenced me on
playing because he started
and he really wanted me to
start playing. But I didn’t
start taking it more serious
until last year. I started taking
lessons and really wanted
to improve my game.
What’s your favorite
memory playing golf?
My favorite memory is
when I was in seventh grade,
going into eighth, I was
on the ninth hole at a golf
course and I made a hole-inone.
And I just started taking
it a little more serious then,
and I was really happy, and
it just motivated me more to
start playing more and really
getting in to the game.
I would probably save it or
donate it to people who were
in more need than me. But,
if I would buy something, I
probably buy stuff to make
my education more important,
and improve my education
and improve my golf
game. Spend it on lessons.
Which do you think is
better: your short game
or long game?
My short game is definitely
better and consistent. I
usually put it pretty close to
the pin when I’m chipping or
pitching from 100 yards in.
What’s your spirit
animal?
It’s probably a dog because
I make sure I stay
loyal to everyone and kind.
Dogs are usually pretty kind
and friendly, and I feel like
that’s closest to my personality.
photo submitted
kind of exotic pet, what
would it be?
An alpaca because they
are very fluffy and loving
and love to give kisses.
What’s the hardest part
of the game for you?
Trying to stay consistent
and focus the next shot, even
after I’ve had a bad shot. I
really have to make sure my
mental game is always intact
because that can sometimes
get to me and I can have
worse holes after I blow
up once. But, I make sure I
stay positive throughout my
round.
What would be the first
thing you buy if you
won the lottery?
I don’t think I would
necessarily buy anything.
Have you given any
thoughts to college yet?
Yes, I have. I visited Texas
A&M and I fell in love with
that college, and it would be
awesome if I could play golf
there and have my education
furthered there, also…
I want to major in biomedical
engineering or pediatric
physical therapy.
Including yourself, who
would be in your dream
four-some?
Lexi Thompson, Rickie
Fowler and Michelle Wie.
If you could own any
What’s a life lesson
you’ve learned playing
golf?
Knowing what smart decisions
to make. You always
have to make smart decisions
while playing because,
if you don’t, you could always
put yourself in more
trouble than you’re already
in. And just a lot of life lessons
have been learned there
because out of school you
can make bad decisions, but
playing golf, always make
the right one, and you could
put that toward your life.
