Stop Winter Aches with
Vitamin D
Vitamin D is actually not a vitamin. Rather Vitamin D is a potent
hormone in the body. Vitamin D is well known for its role in helping the intestines
absorb calcium, however what isn´t appreciated are its more important functions.
It influences over 3,000 genes in the body, far more than any other nutrient.
Vitamin D is essential for maintaining normal blood pressure, strengthening
our immune system and regulating normal growth and development of our cells.
Vitamin D also offers protection against muscle pain and weakness, autoimmune
diseases, heart disease as well as some forms of cancer. Researchers have also
pointed out that regardless of the type of cancer, the one thing sufferers
have in common is a deficiency of vitamin D
Food sources of Vitamin D are; tuna, mackerel,
egg yolk and cheese. But the best
source of vitamin D is sunlight. During the
summer months, we expose our bodies to
more sunlight, and this allows the skin to
make sufficient amounts of Vitamin D. But
in the winter months, we cover-up against
the cold, and this prevents the skin from
making Vitamin D.
A lot of people suffer from health problems
that only occur during the winter season,
and scientific evidence shows that a deficiency
of vitamin D in the winter months
may be a reason.
One common health problem that some
people have mainly in the winter season
is joint aches and pain. Rheumatologists
believe that such winter aches and pain is
caused by poor absorption of calcium due
to vitamin D deficiency.
Many health experts agree that the Recommended
Daily Allowance (RDA) of Vitamin
D at 600 IU is too low, especially when you
consider that exposing the body to sunlight
on a good summer’s day, will produce about
20,000 IU of Vitamin D.
Studies have shown that in order to maintain
a normal Vitamin D blood level of
40 ng/ ml, we may need up to 8000 IU of
Vitamin D daily.
Liquid Vitamin D-3 from Douglas Laboratories
is a unique, neutral tasting,
sugar free liquid of pure natural Vitamin
D-3
1 drop provides 1000IU (volume size
HOW TOXINS THREATEN YOUR HEALTH
And what you can do to
protect yourself and your
home
Many of us realise that toxins have a harmful
effect on the body, but we underestimate
the seriousness of the danger.
Adding to the problem is the wilful ignorance of our
modern day health care system that mostly ignore
the powerful role toxins play in human diseases.
Fortunately, times are changing, and more doctors
are starting to learn about and recognise the
dangers posed by toxins. Today inflammation is
recognised as the underlying cause of nearly
all diseases, and a major cause of inflammation is
a build-up of toxins in the body. In medical science,
toxins refer to chemical compounds that are foreign
and harmful to the body.
In recent years, the incidence of many chronic diseases
has risen exponentially. 100 years ago, cancer
was virtually unheard of in many parts of the world,
but today it’s estimated that 1 out of every 2 people
will suffer from cancer in their lifetime. Scientists
have pointed out that the rise in chronic diseases
coincides with the widespread use of toxic chemicals
in everyday living.
A noted observation is that all over the world from
South America to Africa, wherever you find indigenous
communities far away from civilization, the
occurrence of chronic diseases such as cancer is
virtually non-existent. Synthetic chemicals are the
main source of toxins in the body. Numerous studies
have established a relationship between
toxic chemical compounds and chronic diseases
such as Alzheimer’s, Dementia, Parkinson’s
and Cancer.
The assumption today is that the body can tolerate
minute amounts of toxins, and while this may be
true to an extent, we know for sure that the body
can only recognise chemicals that are natural to it
and puts up a fight against any foreign chemical. It
4 www.medb.es
is the fight against foreign entities that gives rise to
inflammation. Inflammation is the hidden cause of
most diseases, and the aim in disease prevention is
to reduce inflammation as much as possible.
WE ARE SURROUNDED BY TOXINS
The extent to which we are surrounded by chemicals
is quite mind boggling. From the time you wake up
until you go to bed, you are bombarded by an assortment
of toxic chemicals. According to the EWG
– Environmental Working Group – an organisation
dedicated to keeping the environment healthier, a
study conducted on over 2,000 people found
that the average person is contaminated with
at least 161 toxic compounds, many of which
have been linked to chronic diseases. What’s
worse is that some of these chemicals have been
approved for human use against common sense and
scientific evidence.
Fluoride for instance is widely believed to help
keep teeth healthy and prevent dental caries. But
the reality is that fluoride is a highly toxic chemical
known to cause dental fluorosis, a disorder that
leaves children´s teeth stained and pitted. Cosmetic
and beauty products typically contain an assortment
of chemicals. A well-known medical fact is
that women suffer from up to nine times more
autoimmune diseases than men. Could this be
because women expose themselves to more chemicals
through cosmetic products?
Many beauty products contain a toxic preservative
known as parabens. Parabens are well known
disruptors of the endocrine system and also cause
many hormonal disorders especially in women.
Deodorants contain aluminium compounds, and
several clinical studies have linked high levels of
aluminium with breast cancer and Alzheimer´s
disease. Cleaning and Laundry products are typical-

ly manufactured from chemical compounds. Fabric
conditioners are probably the most toxic of household
products and contain a concoction of toxic
chemicals including chloroform, benzyl alcohol and
pentane. Soft plastics contain a toxic organic compound
called BPA (Bisphenol A). BPA accumulates
in our organs, and has been linked with severe organ
damage. BPA is blamed for the growing cases of
infertility and hormonal problems seen today. The
problem with many of these chemicals is that they
remain in the environment long after they’ve been
banned. DDT for example was banned all over the
world in the 1970s, but today, DDT is still detected
in the blood of new born babies.
HOW THE BODY ELIMINATES TOXINS
The main detoxification or detox organs of the body
are the liver, gall bladder, intestines and lungs and
these organs are responsible for eliminating toxins
from the body. Over the years the term detox or
detoxification has lost its meaning and many types
of diet and procedures have come to be described
as a detox. While these methods may be beneficial
in other ways, they do little or nothing to eliminate
toxins from the body. Detox or detoxification
refers to the process of removing toxins or
contaminants buried deep inside our cells,
tissues and organs.
Substances that are foreign to the body are deemed
potentially harmful, and have to be processed out
of the body in a special way. If these substances are
toxic, the body must convert them into non-toxic
forms before they can be eliminated. When toxins
are ingested, they are immediately transported to
the liver. And in the liver, these toxins are broken
down in 2 phases. In the 1st phase, toxins are converted
into water soluble compounds to make them
transportable. In the 2nd phase they are converted
into non-toxic compounds that can be safely excreted
from the body.
A peculiar aspect of the detox process is that toxins
in the first phase of the detox process are deadlier
than in their original form and pose a serious
risk to the body. Unfortunately, many people lack
the right enzymes to complete the detox process
and this leads to serious health problems. When
the detox organs are not functioning properly, the
resulting effect is a build-up of toxins in tissues and
organs, especially in organs with a high fat content
such as the breasts, brain, and liver. If toxins are not
properly processed and excreted, they cause a lot of
damage to the kidneys on their way out.
SYMPTOMS OF TOXIC OVERLOAD
The symptoms of toxic overload depends on where
these toxins are found in the body. At Medb clinic
we find the commonest symptoms to be extreme
tiredness and headaches. The presenting
symptoms also deeps on the nature of the toxin.
Lead for example accumulates in the bones where
it displaces calcium, causing bones to become more
brittle and prone to arthritis and osteoporosis.
Toxins, especially heavy metals are now increasingly
recognised as a major cause of heart disease and
heart failure. Many heart centres now consider detox
therapy in favour of stent insertion for treating
atherosclerosis.
When toxins accumulate in the brain, they contribute
to chronic brain disorders such as Alzheimer´s,
Parkinson´s and Dementia. Laboratory studies have
shown that the brains of those who passed away
from Alzheimer´s contained extremely high levels
of heavy metals such as mercury, aluminium, cadmium
and iron. Our nerves are also sensitive to the
effects of toxins, and chronic diseases of the nerves
such as multiple sclerosis have been strongly linked
to toxic overload.
In the neuro-endocrine system, toxins can cause a
number of hormonal disorders including thyroid
and adrenal insufficiencies as well as exaggerated
postmenopausal symptoms. Problems of weight
gain have also been linked to the slowing down
of the metabolic pathway by toxins. When an
appropriate detox is carried out, many diseases are
either cured or improved, such as arthritis, high
blood pressure, heart disease, migraines, memory
impairment, erectile dysfunction, hormonal disorders
and many more. »»»
WHAT TO DO
The very first step is to start with what you put
inside your body. Not just your food and drinks, but
also the beauty products you put on your skin, as
well as the medications you take and vaccines you
receive. Food is best and safest when natural. Of
course we have to eat some processed foods now
and again, nevertheless it pays us to be aware of our
actions. When foods are not in their natural state,
they are considered processed. Even when foods are
in their natural state, they may still be contaminated
by insecticides, pesticides and other chemicals
used in farms. Soaking fruits and vegetables for
15 minutes in water containing about a cup of
apple cider vinegar and rinsing them off, will
eliminate a lot of toxins. Avoid GM - Genetically
Modified foods. GM seed crops are modified in such
a way that the seeds have pre packed insecticides
and pesticides that destroy insects that feed on
them. Yet somehow we are supposed to believe that
such seeds are harmless to humans! Buying organic
foods when possible is a good idea, especially if you
can verify the source. Contrary to popular belief,
organic foods can be much cheaper than non-organic
foods.
Beauty products are a major source of toxins, especially
for women. The average woman uses dozens
of cosmetics products on a daily basis, and most
people never bother to find out what these products
contain. A single cosmetic beauty product
can easily contain a dozen synthetic chemicals
many of which are associated with chronic
health problems. The solution is to read the label
of the products you use. Yes you can use synthetic
chemicals on your skin, but make sure you know
what you’re using. One of the most toxic substances
in use today are chemical based sunscreen lotions. A
better alternative is to use mineral based sunscreen
lotions.
be true for a tiny proportion of people, the fact is
that there are no reliable scientific data that prove
the usefulness of vaccines. What is known however
is that vaccines are preserved with an agent called
thimerosal which contains toxic levels of mercury.
The flu vaccine in particular has been described as
near useless even by their manufacturers. It is true
that we become more prone to infections, during
the winter months, but this is because of the cold
weather which encourages the growth of certain
viruses, and also the absence of sunlight which
depresses the immune system. So rather than opting
for a flu vaccine during the winter season, you
should take precautionary measures to boost your
immune system with proven immune enhancers
such as Vitamin D.
While there are ways to reduce your exposure to
toxins, most people may have never taken any precautions
in the past, and may be extremely contaminated
with toxins. The scans from MedB show that
over a third of people have extremely high levels of
toxins in their organs.
There are very few methods that are scientifically
proven to remove toxins from the body, and the
best known is with the use of Pectasol. Pectasol is
made from citrus pectin, and draws out from the
body heavy metals such as mercury, lead, pesticides
and other toxic compounds before flushing them
our through the urinary system.
For more information on Pectasol, See Page 19.
Even when we are not putting stuff on our skin, we
still make contact with chemicals by other means.
Many washing powders, as well as fabric conditioners
contain some of the most toxic compounds
known to man. You will find healthier alternatives if
you are willing to look for them. Although prescription
drugs save lives, they are also a cause of great
suffering for a lot of people. Do not take medications
that you do not need. Realise that every drug
is a potential poison to your body.
Many people have come to believe that vaccines
protect them against diseases and while this might
Best foods for bones
Calcium is widely associated with bone health
mainly because of media advertising. Nevertheless,
the calcium for stronger bones slogan
is a serious oversimplification as our bones need a
number of minerals and nutrients in order to maintain
a healthy structure. Medical studies show that
taking only calcium supplements will make bones
denser, but weaker. More than calcium, your body
needs nutrients such as magnesium, zinc, MSM
(Methyl sulphonyl methane) and silica. The food
sources listed below contain the highest amounts of
nutrients needed to keep bones healthy.
Fresh fruits and vegetables: Fresh fruits and vegetables
are very rich in several minerals especially
MSM (Methyl Sulfonyl Methane). MSM is essential
for producing collagen–a protein that maintains
the structure of our bones, joints, hair and skin.
Deficiency of MSM is believed to be responsible for
the high rates of joint and bone diseases seen today.
MSM is a very delicate mineral, and easily destroyed
when fruits and veggies are even slightly cooked.
Fruits and vegetables are also excellent sources of
zinc, manganese and magnesium, and these minerals
are useful for our bones.
Sea foods: Sea foods are packed full of trace nutrients
(your body requires these vital nutrients
in small amounts). Among other benefits, iodine
supports the growth of bone cells, and sufficient
amounts are only found in sea foods such as kelp,
seaweed, prawns, etc. Oysters contain the highest
amount of zinc in any food, and zinc stimulates
bone cells for growth. Other foods that are rich in
zinc are; cashew nut, pumpkin seeds and sesame
seeds.
Oats: Oats are a good way to start the day, especially
for diabetics as oats slowly release sugar into the
body. Oats however are also one of the best sources
of silica or silicon. Silica plays a crucial role in maintaining
the strong structure of our bones. Silica
together with collagen is responsible for keeping
the mesh work of our bones intact. Other foods rich
in silica are potatoes and barley.
Coconut Oil: Coconut oil is becoming popular for
its role in preventing Alzheimer´s and other cognitive
problems. But recent studies show that coconut
oil contains powerful antioxidants that help maintain
bone structure and prevent postmenopausal
bone loss. Coconut oil is able to withstand very high
cooking temperatures and this makes it an excellent
cooking oil.
Dairy: Dairy is a well-known source of calcium
and calcium is important for our bones. However,
its importance has been over emphasized by the
media. In reality the body is unable to absorb calcium
without an equal amount of magnesium. And
magnesium is not readily available in dairy. On the
contrary, calcium alone can lead to constipation and
high blood pressure.
How Stressed
Are You?
We all appreciate what it means to be stressed – that feeling that you are struggling to
cope with everyday living. Stress was coined by Hans Seyle, a Hungarian medical
doctor who defined it as ´a non-specific response of the body to any demand for change. Although
scientist’s don´t all agree on the exact meaning of stress, they all agree that stress has
damaging effects on the body.
The body´s response to stress produces what is
known as the flight or fight response. When
something stressful happens–like you are being
chased by a Rottweiler, or you suddenly see a car
heading towards your direction–your flight or fight
response kicks in. Your body releases powerful
chemicals such as adrenaline, and with the release
of these chemicals, your heart starts beating faster,
you start sweating, your awareness becomes heightened,
and your body becomes primed to run or stay
and fight. This is called the ‘flight or fight response’.
Under normal circumstances, we instinctively know
to move away from the source of stress. But in today´s
world, we are surrounded by many sources of
stress – in the work place, on the road, in the street,
while shopping, etc–and in many of these situations,
it may be practically impossible to move away.
And so what we do in such situations is to repress
the stress rather than express our true feelings.
Stress accumulates in the body when it is repressed.
The cardiovascular system which comprises of the
heart, arteries and veins, is particularly vulnerable
to the effects of stress. Gastric and intestinal ulcers
are also some of the effects of stress. Other illnesses
that can be caused by stress are high blood pressure,
heart attacks, strokes, headache, tiredness, insomnia,
irritability and low immune system.
nutrition, as well as our emotional approach to life.
Women and men are affected by stress in different
ways and handle stress differently. Women are usually
stressed by relationships and family life, while
men tend to be stressed by work. Women usually
show stress by physical and emotional symptoms
while men bottle up stress for longer
periods and suffer more serious illnesses.
When stressed, most people will do all they can to
mask the stress, either with drugs, alcohol, shopping
etc. But the best way to deal with stress is to
identify and face the stress full on. This will allow
you understand the reasons behind the stress and
when you identify the reason, it becomes easier to
find solutions. Depending on what you are feeling,
you have to remind yourself of what´s important.
Sometimes we place so much value on inconsequential
issues that cause stress.
Some people will become stressed or become unable
to handle stress due to hormonal imbalances. And
this is moreso with women. Taking a supplement
containing all 22 amino acids is an effective way to
correct hormonal imbalances and treat depression.
That way your body will have all the necessary ingredients
that it needs to produce hormones and other
chemicals needed to keep your body in balance.
The way we handle stress depends on a number of
factors such as our personality, genes, environment,
Special Interview
with Claire Dockerty
Machi: Hello Claire, please tell our readers a little
bit about yourself.
Claire: I am from county Yorkshire and grew up in
a village called Conisbrough. I attended University
of Sheffield where I did my midwifery and nursing
training before graduating in 1997. After which
I worked for the NHS, specialising in emergency
obstetric care, before going into teaching. For a
number of years I was involved with training GP’s
and rotational doctors, teaching them basic emergency
obstetrics, before I decided to move to New
Zealand.
Machi: You had all this experience and then you
moved abroad.
Claire: After 7 years, I decided to try my hand in
New Zealand which is where I had always wanted to
work. I was there for a year, and enjoyed it and got
as much experience as I could before returning to
the UK, and the only reason why I returned to UK
was to buy property (Laughs). That´s a UK thing,
buying a house and settling down.
Machi: So when you came back you took on more
managerial roles, but you didn’t agree with how
things were being done?
Claire: Yes I had issues with decisions that were
made in the interests of hospital and staff and not
for the patients. I didn’t agree with doctors or midwives
doing things to benefit themselves and not
the patients. I was brought up in life and in training
to believe that you did things for the best interest
of the patient, and not for the system or the NHS or
any other health care system.
Machi: And so when you had a choice between
patient care and a full time managerial post with
higher pay, you decided to take a break.
Claire: Yes this is when I decided that I needed a
break off the whole system, among other reasons.
I had recently taken the job of teenage pregnancy
midwife for the North West of England, which was a
high pressure job, and the politics of the NHS won´t
allow me to do my job properly, so that´s when
the decision had to be made. So I took a break and
moved to Spain just to have a year off, but I never
went back.
Machi: For the same reason you didn´t find the
system in Spain interesting?
Claire: No. I actually didn´t want the stress and
pressure of the politics of the job and this is why I
decided not to go into it. The system here in Spain
originally seemed slightly better than the one in the
UK, but over the years you get to realise that it´s
not any better, it´s just a bit slower in catching up.
Machi: What has been your experience so far working
at MedB?
Claire: I am really enjoying it. It´s nice being in
a situation where I can talk to people about their
health and well-being and not dictate what they
should be doing but help them come to their own
resolution as to what´s happening with just minimal
direction. Generally the people that come here
want to be healthy. They are not here because they
are pushed into it, they are here because they want
to be here and they have faith in what´s happening
here. So people that come to us are mainly people
like myself that have lost faith in the system or are
not happy with the way things are being done for
them. And it´s just friendly, interesting and exciting
experience.
Machi: How are you finding the people you meet at
MedB? Are they any different from people you saw
at hospitals?
Claire: Oh my gosh yes. There is less tension, you
know they are here because they want to be here,
they want to get to the bottom of their illness. They
are not here because they´ve been forced here by a
different department or a different doctor. They are
not being passed from person to person. It´s nice
to see somebody from beginning to end, or people
that have been here before I started and are still
coming back because they are happy with the care
What Microwaves Do to Food
5
years ago, some high school students carried out a simple experiment to show the dangers of microwaves.
They had 2 plants in a pot, and watered one with water boiled with an oven, and the other
plant with water boiled with a microwave. After 9 days, the plant treated with microwaved water was
nearly dead, while the other plant was thriving. Since then, the experiment has been repeated many times
and dozens of such videos can be seen in youtube.com
Over 90% of homes have a microwave, and we have come to rely on them as a convenient and fast way to
cook, thaw or warm food. If you are in good health, then you may say to yourself that you´ve been using
microwaves for many years without any problems, and thats ok. But if you´re suffering from any chronic
illness, especially diseases of the nervous system, then there is good reason to feel concerned. Microwaves
may not be the direct cause of a disease, but by their very nature, they add to diseases by promoting inflammation
and slowing down healing.
Conventional ovens or other forms of traditional cooking transfers
heat directly from a heat source to the food being cooked. But with
microwaves, heat is generated from within the food in order to cook it.
To understand how this alien process works, we must understand what
microwaves really are. Microwaves are a type of radiation similar to
UV rays and X-rays, however they have reduced energy and this makes
them not as deadly as X-rays. When food is cooked in a microwave, a
device inside the microwave called a magnetron produces microwave
radiation which is transferred to water contained within the food. The
microwave then agitates the water molecules so violently that heat is
produced and it is this heat that cooks the food. However the process
is so vigorous and destructive that it deforms the structure of water
as well as food nutrients. Several studies have shown that microwaved food contains less nutrients than
foods cooked with conventional heat.
A published study in the ´ Nov 2003 Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture´ showed that microwaved
broccoli, lost 97% of its beneficial antioxidants, while steamed broccoli lost only 11%. A Japanese
study found that microwaving milk for 6 minutes completely destroyed 40% of its Vitamin B12.Researchers
from Russia have established that nearly all foods that have been microwaved contain substances
that can cause cancer. Their studies found that exposing raw, cooked or frozen vegetables to the shortest
amount of microwave converts their plant alkaloids into cancer causing chemicals. They also found that
microwaved foods depleted nutrient levels by 60 – 90 % especially Vitamins B C and E.
Microwave ovens also emit low grade radiation that escapes from the device no matter how well made or
expensive the microwave. This radiation can travel through walls and affects the body at close range.
Children, pregnant women and people suffering chronic illnesses are more vulnerable to the effects of any
radiation, including microwaves. While the effects of microwaves are not felt immediately by the majority
of people, they are accumulative. Very sensitive people will feel certain symptoms when close to a microwave
or after consuming foods prepared in a microwave, and these symptoms include: Headaches, dizziness,
nausea, irritability, depression, as well as lowered immune response. Most people however do not
feel any symptoms. Nevertheless, microwaves should be avoided by everyone. The extra minutes gained
from using microwaves is surely not worth the possible harm to the body.
The alternative is to warm your foods using a cooker or oven. A new type of oven called the halogen oven
uses light to heat food. Many people agree that foods cooked over conventional sources of heat have a far
superior taste to foods cooked using a microwave.
6 Cosmetic Chemicals to Avoid
Parabens: widely used as a preservative to
prevent the growth of moulds. Parabens
easily penetrates the skin and mimics
oestrogens (the female sex hormone).
They have been detected in female breast
cancer tissue, and are known to interfere
with male reproduction. They can be
found in make-up, body washes, deodorants,
shampoos and facial cleansers.
Petrolatum: Used in hair products
to maintain shine and also
in lip balms and lip sticks as a
moisture barrier. They are produced
from petroleum and are
easily contaminated with polycyclic
aromatic hydrocarbon
which is linked to cancer.
Sodium Laureth Sulphate: Used in foaming cosmetics such as shampoos,
cleansers, bubble bath and toothpaste. They are known to irritate the skin and
lungs. A major concern is its ability to combine with other compounds to
produce nitrosamine, a notorious cancer causing chemical.
Triclosan: Used in antibacterial
cosmetics such as toothpaste,
cleansers, hand washes and
antiperspirants. They are suspected
to disrupt the endocrine
system and are also believed to
cause antibacterial resistance.
Fragrance: one of the scariest and
most meaningless of labels. They are
said to be created to protect a company's
secret formula. But they can be a
concoction of anything. Fragrances
have been associated with - allergies,
dermatitis, and respiratory distress.
They are found in a variety of products
such as Cologne, conditioner and
shampoo.
Phthalates or Dibutyl phthalates:
They are used as a solvent for dyes
in nail polish as well as a plasticizer
in nail polish to prevent them from
going brittle. They are absorbed
through the skin and enhance the
toxic effects of other chemicals.
Phthalates are suspected to cause
harm to the endocrine and reproductive
organs. They are also suspected
to cause liver and kidney
damage in children when products
containing phthalates are chewed
or sucked on.
Colloidal Silver: The Universal
Antibiotic
Silver has been used for thousands of
years as an antibiotic. Ancient cultures
used silver pots to store water, with
the knowledge that it will protect them
against diseases. Silver dressings and products
are currently used in specialist hospitals to
speed-up the healing of wounds. The international
Space station and the Russian Space station
use colloidal silver to purify water. Most
recently, silver has been recommended for use
in surgical instruments and silver coated catheters,
to prevent MRSA infections. .
Colloidal Silver was recognised as a powerful
antibiotic as soon as it was first discovered by
Dr Silver in 1906, but it fell out of favour decades
later, when antibiotics became available.
And today, with the rise of antibiotic resistant
microbes, colloidal silver is making a comeback
as the preferred antibiotic of choice for a
variety of infectious diseases.
In the 1980s, studies carried out at the
Syracuse University and the UCLA School
of medicine showed that colloidal silver
was highly effective against bacteria,
viruses, and fungal microbes, including
those that had become resistant to antibiotics.
Recently studies at the University
of Texas suggested that colloidal silver
may be effective against HIV-1 virus.
Colloidal silver has absolutely no side effects.
The particles of silver in colloidal silver are
extremely tiny, making it impossible for any
form of toxicity to occur in the body. The
cosmetic side effect of argyria (greying of the
skin) is only seen when people consume silver
salts and solutions that are not fit for human
consumption
Several scientific studies have demonstrated
that colloidal silver is a powerful antibiotic.
Is Your Home Making You Sick?
You may be wondering how a home could cause or contribute to an illness. The ´Sick Building Syndrome´
is a recognised condition that refers to instances when buildings such as homes and offices
cause illnesses due to harmful toxins contained within them. There are a number of ways through
which buildings can become toxic. Although most people are aware of the harmful effects of chemical
toxins, what is not so well recognised are the harmful health effects of biological toxins especially those
produced by moulds. Yes moulds look nasty and filthy, and their spores are generally seen as health hazards,
nevertheless what makes them especially harmful are the chemicals known as mycotoxins that they
release into the air. These mycotoxins are linked to many chronic health problems.
Moulds are a problem in areas of the world with high humidity or where rainfall is high. Even when moulds
are not physically seen with the eye, they can still be present in a building. Mycotoxins cause and trigger
many types of respiratory diseases and allergies. They have also been implicated in diseases such as multiple
sclerosis, chronic fatigue syndrome, depression, multiple chemical sensitivities, irritable bowel problems,
and even loss of vision. Mycotoxins disrupt the metabolic pathways of the body and interfere with
fat metabolism leading to problems with weight gain.
The commonest symptoms seen with mycotoxin poisoning are headaches, tiredness and breathing difficulties.
Not everyone is severely affected by the problems of mycotoxins. Scientists have determined that
about 25% of the population are seriously affected by mycotoxins. Those affected have a genetic makeup
known as HLA-DR which limits their ability to eliminate mycotoxins properly from the body. While
normal people may experience sneezing and coughing when exposed to mycotoxins, those with the HLA
genetic make-up will end up suffering serious breathing problems. Unfortunately there isn´t any easily
available test to tell those at risk. Fortunately mycotoxins can be identified in the body using advanced
diagnostic techniques.
Rather than worry about the quality of your genes, you can take action by doing all that you can to prevent
mould from invading your home. Moulds are attracted to humid homes, and by reducing humidity in your
home, you will discourage them from growing. In places where atmospheric humidity is high such as in
Costablanca Spain, it is quite common for people to come back to their holiday homes after a long break
only to find walls and furniture covered in moulds. In such extreme cases, installing a dehumidifier will
prove helpful. Most bathrooms do not have a window and the steam from hot showers increases indoor
humidity and encourages the growth of moulds. Installing a vent or extractor fan in such a case usually
makes a good difference. Moulds can be cleaned off with a number of natural products including soap and
water, teatree oil, white vinegar and hydrogen
peroxide. A teaspoon of teatree oil in
2 cups of water used with a sprayer will do
the job. Always wear a mask while on the
job.
Some people may already have high levels
of mycotoxins in their body, and need
to work on their bodies as well as their
environment. Mycotoxins like many other
toxins are easily removed from the body
with the detox agent Pectasol.
Be Careful With These Drugs
Prescription drugs are absolutely necessary in health care, and many of them save countless lives
every day. But prescription drugs are best when used for short term. Sadly, doctors prescribe these
medications for long term use and in many cases for a lifetime. This ultimately leads to other health
problems. It is important that you find out all you can about the medications you take, and do all you can
to counteract any harmful side effects associated with the medication. Take only the medications you need.
Corticosteroids: Corticosteroids or steroids were heralded as a healing wonder when they were first
discovered and used to treat nearly all chronic diseases because of their powerful anti-inflammatory properties.
A few years later however, it became obvious that steroids also had many life threatening effects.
Common side effects of steroids include: diabetes, depressed immune system, poor wound healing, thinning
of the skin, and weight gain.
Statins: Statins are prescribed for lowering cholesterol and they produce this effect by stopping the liver
from making cholesterol. By doing so however, statins also block the production of Co-enzyme Q10, a
valuable nutrient needed by every cell in the body to generate energy. Many studies have associated statins
with many illnesses including liver and kidney damage, muscle and joint pains, memory loss, dementia,
extreme hostility and violent behaviour. High cholesterol can easily be controlled with plant extracts such
as policosanol.
Bisphosphonates: This class of pharmaceuticals are commonly prescribed to manage osteoporosis and
low bone density and include drugs such as ibandronic acid or alendronic acid. Such drugs are claimed to
be helpful because they slow down the breakdown of bone tissue. However in order to remain healthy and
strong, our bones are continually broken down and regenerated. When the ´breakdown´ phase is stopped,
the resulting bones are thick and brittle and easily prone to fractures. Bisphosphonates also cause serious
damage to the liver and kidneys. MSM (Methyl sulphonyl methane) supplement is an effective way to
maintain strong bones and prevent osteoporosis.
SSRI antidepressants: Drugs that belong to this class such as Prozac, work by preventing the reabsorption
of serotonin and by doing so, tricks the brain into believing that it has more serotonin than it actually
does. Serotonin is called the feel good hormone, and low levels are associated with depression. The problem
with SSRI is that they stop working after the body´s serotonin stores are completely exhausted, but by
then the user may have developed some form of drug dependence. SSRI´s cause severe dependence, depression,
suicidal ideation, weight gain, and a loss of emotionally feeling.
Methotrexate: Commonly used to treat severe forms of arthritis, as well as cancers of the skin, lungs and
breast. Methotrexate works by targeting fast growing cells like cancer cell. Unfortunately some of our normal
cells like the blood cells, are also fast growing and these are equally destroyed by methotrexate giving
rise to side effects such as depressed immune system, anaemia, blood clots, infections and liver diseases.
Codeine: Codeine is a highly addictive pain killer. A growing number of people are developing an addiction
to a variant of codeine which is combined with caffeine and available in small sachets. Codeine is derived
from heroine, and causes a similar type of addiction as heroine. Codeine also causes severe damage to the
liver and kidneys.
Vegetarian Omega-3:
the Preferred Choice for men
Omega-3 belongs to the special class of nutrients
called Essential nutrients. Such nutrients
are not produced by the body, and only get
to us though our diet. The brain and heart
rely heavily on omega-3 in order to function
smoothly. But Omega-3´s most important role
in the body is as a powerful anti-inflammatory
agent.
Inflammation is now recognised as the hidden
trigger for many chronic diseases such as
Dementia, Arthritis, Cataracts, Alzheimer´s
disease and Liver diseases. Inflammation however,
is a vital process in the body, and plays
a key role in wound healing. Omega-3 is the
recommended therapy of choice for atherosclerosis
or hardening of the arteries.
A major cause of inflammation today is high
levels of Omega-6 in the body. In contrast to
Omega-3 which is anti-inflammatory, Omega-6
promotes inflammation. Both compounds
are found in the body, however, the body
maintains the same proportions of Omega-3
and Omega-6 to prevent inflammation from
getting out of hand. Clinical studies show that
many people have up to 33 times more Omega-6
than Omega-3, and such unhealthy ratios
puts the body at high risk of developing
chronic inflammatory diseases.
Omega-6 occurs in high amounts in processed
vegetable oils like corn, canola, sunflower and
safflower oils. Omega-3 is not so commonly
found in foods. Good sources of Omega-3
include: deep sea oily fish such as salmon and
mackerel, flax seeds, fish oil, hemp oil, and
walnuts. Farmed Salmon however, contains
very little Omega-3.
Fish oil goes rancid and becomes toxic when
exposed to air and recent studies have found
that fish oil may be contributing to prostate
diseases. For this reason men are now advised
to consider a vegetarian source of Omega-3.
Relieve Joint and Muscle
Aches and Pain with MSM
MSM (Methyl Sulfonyl Methane) is the most vital nutrient required by
the body to build and maintain strong and healthy joints and bones. MSM
occurs naturally in the body, and is used to make collagen – an important
component of our bones, joints, skin and hair. More so than calcium, your
body needs MSM to build; bones, joints, skin and hair. For this reason,
MSM has been called the ´beauty mineral´
MSM is a powerful painkiller and anti-inflammatory agent, and studies
have shown that MSM is more effective than prescription medications for
treating Rheumatoid arthritis, Osteoarthritis, Frozen shoulder, Muscle
Cramp, Neck Pain and Back Pain.
Aspartame: Aspartame is synthesized from phenylalanine, aspartic acid and methanol. Separately, these
compounds are highly toxic to the human body. Formaldehyde is a toxic by product of methanol metabolism
in the liver, and formaldehyde has been detected in the brains, liver and muscles of people who take
aspartame. Phenylalanine and aspartic acid are known to easily cross the brain-barrier and cause such
problems as depression, mood disorders, memory problems, and diseases of the nervous system. Some
health problems that can occur when aspartame is taken are headaches, insomnia, irritability, depression,
memory loss, nausea and vomiting.
Saccharin: The primary chemical compound in saccharin is Benzoic sulfimide. Saccharin is one of the
most investigated of sweeteners because of scientific reports that associate it with bladder cancer. Other
side effects seen with saccharin are nausea, diarrhoea, dermatitis and allergies.
Sucralose: Sucralose is produced when sugar is chlorinated. Manufacturers claim that sucralose is as
safe as salt, but scientists point out that the chemical structure of sucralose is eerily similar to that of the
banned pesticide DDT. Studies from Duke University discovered that sucralose causes the loss of ´good
bacteria´ that is required to maintain a healthy digestive and immune system. Other studies have shown
that sucralose may be shrinking the thymus gland – a vital organ for the immune system.
A safe alternative to sugar is a natural sweetener called Stevia. Stevia is an extract of a plant related
to the daisy that has been used in South America for centuries where it is also used to treat burns,
colic and indigestion. Stevia has no calories and is 200 times sweeter than sugar. Clinical studies have also
shown that stevia can be beneficial for treating high blood pressure and diabetes.
AVOID THESE SWEETENERS

Iodine and
The Thyroid
Your body requires many nutrients to function properly but some nutrients like iodine, play
a more important role in keeping you healthy than others, and are needed on a daily basis.
Iodine also stands out because it is found in very few foods making iodine deficiency a
fairly common health problem.
The importance of iodine in the environment and the human body is very well recognised. Iodine in the
atmosphere plays a role in regulating our ozone layer, and a delicate cycle exists between iodine in the
atmosphere, the ocean and the soil. In the human body, iodine is used to produce thyroid hormones, and
thyroid hormones play a key role in metabolism and the generation of energy in the body. Women especially
suffer from health problems related to an underactive thyroid gland. The common treatment for is
to take thyroid hormone tablets for a lifetime, however the cause of most cases of underactive thyroid is
iodine deficiency. Iodine is an essential and main component of thyroid hormones.
In the past, many people suffered from a severe form of underactive thyroid called goitre, which caused
huge swellings around the neck and Iodine was introduced in salt and bread to eradicate this problem. Unfortunately,
since the 1970s, iodine salts have been removed from bread and replaced by cheaper bromide
salts that worsen iodine deficiency by displacing iodine from the thyroid gland. Moreover nowadays people
generally avoid salt including iodized salt, since it has been incorrectly linked to high blood pressure.
There is enough evidence to believe that iodine deficiency is on the rise, and responsible for the rising cases
of underactive thyroid seen today. In the body iodine is used to maintain the structure of glandular organs
which secrete juices, and such organs include thyroid, pancreas, ovaries and breasts. A deficiency of iodine
has been strongly linked to the formation of cysts, especially those of the breasts, ovaries, thyroids, as
well as cysts of the kidneys and pancreas.
Iodine is not easily found in foods. Tiny amounts of iodine can be found in banana, spinach, barley, and
peanuts. These foods provide less than 5% of your required Daily allowance for iodine. The main sources of
iodine are sea foods, eggs and dairy. Strawberry also contains healthy amounts of iodine and can provide
up to 15% of your iodine needs. Sea foods such as scallops, oysters, seaweed and kelp can provide as much
as 90% of dietary iodine. A single egg or half a cup of yogurt will provide you with about 30% of your dietary
allowance of iodine. Sea salt can also be used to add extra iodine into the body.
Sometimes it may be difficult to find good sources of iodine, and such cases taking a supplement will be the
preferred option. The best supplement Iodine is nascent iodine. Nascent iodine is the best absorbed form
of iodine. Lugol´s iodine is another alternative, but it has a horrible taste and is not as well as absorbed as
Nascent Iodine■
Beer Wards off
Dementia
Researchers from the University of Lanzhou, China, found in a recent
study that an antioxidant in beer may delay or even prevent the onset of
dementia. The antioxidant, which is found in beer’s hops (flowers added
to beer to give it the unique bitter and tangy beer taste and flavour) has
been shown to have anti-cancer, and anti-inflammatory properties. The
researchers isolated the antioxidant from hops and tested them on the
brain cells of lab rats and found the rats were able to produce more protective
brain chemicals. Hops from dried female clusters of the hop plant
are widely used in making beers and some types of soft drinks such as
malt and Swedish Julmust.
Remove Toxins from Your Body with
Pectasol
Imagine spending your life in a house that is never cleaned. The human body without
proper detoxification (or clean-up), is exactly the same as that house. Every day we
are exposed to dozens of toxic compounds that cause chronic diseases. From prescription
drugs to household cleaning products, cosmetics, plastics and even drinking
water, we are surrounded by potential sources of deadly toxins that contaminates the
body.
Researchers have calculated that the average person has inside them over 100 deadly
toxins such as mercury, lead, cadmium, aluminium, mycotoxins (from moulds), DDT, insecticides,
BPA (from plastics) and many others. These toxins accumulate in all our organ,
and over time cause chronic health problems such as memory loss, high blood pressure,
arthritis, diabetes, dementia, sexual dysfunction and premature ageing.
Pectasol is the only orally taken natural detox that has been rigorously tested and shown
to remove many different kinds of toxic chemicals from the body.
Research has also shown that Pectasol binds to a cancer causing chemical in the body
called Galectin-3
Pectasol helps people suffering from Tiredness, Heart and artery disease, memory loss
and dementia, rheumatoid arthritis as well as asthma.
Dose: 2 capsules in the morning,
