ROWA GROUP Holding GmbH
Join ROWA GROUP in the fast lane
Pinneberg/Germany, June 7 th , 2012 – High-quality plastic sur-
faces for interiors or materials for body components for exteri-
ors – the division members of ROWA GROUP offer numerous
innovative products for the automotive industry.
As a competent automotive supplier, ROMIRA GmbH manufac-
tures styrolcopolymere (ABS and ASA) and blends based on pol-
yamid/styrene copolymers (PA/ASA) under the name ROTEC ® .
They are ideal work materials with applications spanning a
broad range of values including notched impact strengths from
10 to over 80kJ/m² at room temperature (6-25 kJ/m² at -30
°C) and high residual rigidity (bending strength 56 N/mm²) and
a Vicat temperature of over 115 °C. Due to the high demands
placed on part stability, they are ideal, among other things, for
strap guides. Settings optimised for specific dimensions and
reinforced compounds, which are used to meet increased de-
mands in terms of rigidity and form stability, complement this
group of materials.
PA/ASA are ideal for the pigmentation of various interior col-
ours and parts in and above the i-dashboard cover such as in-
strument covers or i-dashboard protective caps for complying
with the specifications of PV 1303 regarding UV resistance.
ROMIRA offers products such as ROMILOY ® 3020/11, 3020/09,
3020/10, 3020/01 A, 3020/01-4 M10 for these applications.The
ability of PA/styrene copolymer blends to reproduce every de-
tail of different surface grains on the surfaces of prefabricated
parts with a matt finish due to their morphology, positive flow
behaviour and crystalline form is particularly crucial. The gloss
level of a prefabricated part surface is a direct indication of the
blend’s ability to replicate the tool surface. ROMILOY ® PA/ABS
gloss levels from 1.2 - 1.4 at 60 ° are measured on automobile
colour chips with a grain of K31. The visual appearance of the
component consequently strikes a balance between its matt
properties and sensitivity to impressions of the part surface.
ROMILOY ® polycarbonate/ASA as another group of interesting
blends also have numerous application possibilities in automo-
bile interiors, particularly with respect to the manufacture of
UV-stabilised component cases from ROMILOY ® 6030/04 UV with
a highly reduced gloss level. These blends were specially de-
signed for typical applications such as roof modules made of
PC/ASA 6020/03 F AS UV. Additional functions of partial surfac-
es are achieved with permanent antistatic finish in PC/ASA
6020/06 UV and the PC/ASA blend 6020/04 with improved slid-
ing properties with a TOP surface exhibiting significantly re-
duced frictional resistance between the plastic pairing.
ROWA Masterbatch GmbH is already supplying customers with
masterbatches for a wide range of automotive components and
has a long-standing reputation in the industry as a competent
partner in the area of additives and colour batches for PA, pol-
ypropylene, PC, TPU, TPE and PMMA compounds.
In addition to colour masterbatches for exterior tail lamps -
consisting of PMMA compounds, for example - the automotive
industry also demands additives with UV protection/stabilisers,
PA, PMMA (exterior) and PP for interiors. The ROWA Mas-
terbatch portfolio of additive batches with antioxidants also
includes PA compounds for use at extreme temperatures in the
engine compartment.
TRAMACO GmbH is a reliable partner for customers using chem-
ical foaming agents, adhesion promoters and additives. The
focus of the product group primers and adhesion promoters are
coating of polyolefinic plastics. Sufficient adhesion of lacquers,
printing inks or adhesives to polyolefines cannot be obtained
without a pre-treatment. The TRAPYLEN ® product group pro-
vides excellent adhesion properties to untreated polyolefines
such as PP, TPO and EPDM. TRAPYLEN ® is therefore ideal for use
as a primer to be applied as a separate layer onto the polyole-
finic substrate prior to the application of a lacquer or ink. If
compatible, TRAPYLEN ® can also be used as an adhesion addi-
tive to be incorporated directly into the coating or ink. These
products are available as solid resins, solutions, aqueous disper-
sions and liquid UV-curable systems. Products like TRAPYLEN ®
130 S and TRAPYLEN ® 137 S are used for coating of plastic as-
sembly parts like bumpers in the automotive exterior.
For automotive interior application generally low-emission
products with compliance to the GADSL-list are required. In this
case, aqueous products such as TRAPYLEN ® 9350 W or
TRAPYLEN ® 6600 W are used for coating of artificial leather for
dashboards and assembly parts like handles.
Chemical foaming agents are also used in the production of
moulded plastic parts and semi - finished materials for the au-
tomotive industry. Here are a few examples i. a. of applications
for foaming agents in the automotive sector:
• TRACEL ® in injection moulding of coated PP parts
• TRACEL ® for foaming of PP and TPU dashboards
• TRACEL ® for reducing the density of thick-walled parts made
of ABS and other plastics
The subsidiary ROWA Lack GmbH has developed aqueous lac-
quer systems for use in automobile interiors and has therefore
integrated the products into its portfolio. The environmentally-
friendly alternative for reducing volatile organic compounds
(VOC) can be processed with particular ease. Water-based lac-
quers are therefore being currently tested at the sites of exist-
ing customers.
The matt lacquers are used in:
• ROWAKRYL ® 34263W or 34402W for PVC luggage compartment
cover
• ROWATHAL ® M24403W in synthetic leather
ROWA Lack is certified according to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and
conforms to the EU directives for the reduction of VOC and
REACH.
