A parent of a Wilmette
Junior High School student
contacted the Wilmette
Police Department
From SEPT. 17
on Sunday, Sept. 16, after
finding loaded firearms in
the student’s bedroom, according
to a press release
from the department.
Officers secured the guns
and transported the juvenile
to a secure facility for
treatment, the release says.
During the investigation,
police reportedly learned
that the student had been
experimenting with possible
explosive devices.
Based on this and after
speaking with Wilmette
District 39 staff, the Wilmette
Police Department
requested the Cook County
Bomb Unit to conduct a
sweep of the Wilmette Junior
High School.
Police said there was
no information indicating
a threat against students,
staff or the school.
A press release sent out
by the district to parents
reiterated that there was
no threat against students,
staff or the school, but that
parents “may see an increased
police presence at
our schools today.”
According to Holly
Goldin, Wilmette District
39 communications director,
school started at its normal
time.
was born April 1,
1998. He was a 2016
to his many relatives and
friends. He was compassionate,
loved the outdoors
After considering work as
a youth counselor, he decided
He was proud to follow in
his father’s footsteps and
was adored by his clients.
With his reassuring and
calm demeanor, Duncan
had a gift for helping people
realize and reach their
full potential through his
encouragement and confidence
building skills.
Like all young people, he
kept thinking about his
next steps. With his strong
athletic abilities, he was
also looking forward to
exploring a career in commercial
diving and had
recently enrolled in the
CDA Technical Institute
commercial diver program.
Duncan is survived by
his loving parents, Tony
and Sharon Duncan; three
siblings, Najerie Neal
(Tevin) of Atlanta, Georgia,
Lauren Gabrielle
and Hunter Alexander;
his paternal grandmother
Bonnie Davis (John) and
a host of aunts, uncles,
cousins, and friends.
death by his maternal
grandparents, Katherleen
and Henry Mitchell and
his paternal grandfather,
James Duncan.
Duncan loved his family
and friends and each
held a special place in his
heart.
Dan Brennan, of the
700 block of Elmwood
Avenue, also spoke prior
to the board’s vote and
encouraged the commissioners
to approve the
project and not delay it
any further, so his son can
make use of the Langdon
playground as soon as
possible.
“I’m just hoping for my
4-year-old son, who was
at the last meeting, and
the four weeks from now
incoming addition that
there is a playground to
play on, so hopefully this
is not tabled any longer
and the progress we’ve
made and the momentum
we’ve gotten keeps going
forward,” he said.
Emily Buerger, of the
1200 block of Elmwood
support of the approval of
the Langdon project.
