CABS: Child and Baby-Sitting Safety Class #4580 For youth in grades 4-8. Learn the responsibilities of being a prepared, safe, responsible and professional babysitter. Topics include starting your own babysitting business, child development, behavior guidance, supervision, proper feeding & diapering techniques, personal safety, medical emergencies, basic first aid care and fire safety. Instructor provides baby dolls, bottles, diaper supplies for hands-on participation skills. The course is developed by the American Safety and Health Institute and approved by the American Pediatrics Association. Class participants receive a CABS book and ASHI certification card. Students attend this class independently. Parents are encouraged to review the take home information and discuss it with their child. Students can bring a snack. Instructor: Samantha Woitalewicz. Just mention the worlds “Home Alone,” and children think of the excitement depicted in the movies of the same name. The reality of being home alone can evoke fear and anxiety in many children. Whether left alone for an hour after school or several hours a day during the summer, children should feel comfortable being alone. This workshop for children will address several topics relating to being “Home Alone” including personal safety tips, tricky people, basic first aid, fire safety, handling and unexpected, internet safety, un safety, dealing with loneliness and boredom, storm safety, dealing with siblings as well as trust and honesty. Students attend this class independently. Parents are encouraged to review the take home information and discuss it with their child. Students can bring a snack. Instructor: Samantha Woitalewicz. Tuesday, June 4 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm Fairmont Elementary School Room 158 Please enter through door #15A International Bike/Walk to School Wednesday, October 10 “Safe Routes to School” Walk for Fitness and Fun Start Walking Tuesdays , September 11 - October 30 Five different Safe Routes to School (SRTS) will be offered to the public and parochial elementary schools in Fairmont this Fall. Current Crosswalk Guards and adult volunteers will walk with the children to their respective schools. Bikers are also welcome to join. SRTS will operate on Tuesday mornings beginning September 11. Can you give a half-hour one morning a week to promote safe walking for our youth? Adult volunteers are needed to walk with youth on 5 different routes. Call CER (507)235-3141 with any questions. The chaperoned routes will begin at the following locations: Salvation Army, Grace Lutheran Church, Intersection of Day and Orient Street, Aquatic Park and Bird Park. Driving Snowmobile Safety #6023 This class is a one day review and riding performance course. Students must complete one of the online courses: snowmobilecourse.com (fee for the course is $29.95 *family/group pricing) or snowmobile-ed.com (fee for the course is $29.50) before signing up for the class. Once they complete the online course, students print out a “youth follow-up voucher” and bring along with a copy of their birth certificate. Students will not be allowed to participate in the classroom review/performance test unless you have first completed the Online Snowmobile Safety Course. Parent or guardian must accompany youth to sign the waiver. Each student must have proper attire: helmet, gloves, snow pants, jacket and boots. A snowmobile will be available. Youth must be 11 years old by the date of the class attended. All residents of Minnesota born after December 31, 1976, MUST have a snowmobile safety certificate to operate a snowmobile in Minnesota. This youth Snowmobile Safety class is sponsored by Minnesota DNR, Fairmont Community Education & Recreation and the Blizzard Snowmobile Club.
