The Phoenix Singers
Songs For Summer
In association with the Flower Festival over the
August Bank Holiday in the Church of St. Peter &
St. Paul, Swaffham, the Phoenix Singers performed
in the Church on Friday 24th August to a packed
audience. The theme of the Flower Festival ‘Music in
Bloom’ was beautifully depicted in the arrangements
and the Choir chose songs which reflected many of
the displays. With the main emphasis being Musical
Theatre, the Phoenix Singers, under the baton of Sue
Gattusso and pianist Liz Starling, showed what they
do best with a selection of music from stage and
screen. It was a magical evening of harmony singing
and a solo performance from guest soprano Amber
Batten added to the enjoyment of all those who
attended. Simon Hilton gave some amusing readings
and refreshments were provided during the interval.
The Phoenix Singers would like to thank all those who
came along and made the evening such a success.
As a result, the Phoenix Singers gave a donation of
£600.00 to St. Peter & St. Paul Church.
Swaffham Community Garden
Good and exciting news!!
We have heard back from Alison, our RHS Advisor,
with her availability schedule, so we can now put
together the suggested dates for the completion of
our garden project.
On Thursday October 11th we will be hiring a turf
cutter to prepare the ground for our herbal haven
bed, the fruitful forest bed and our wildflower annual
border. We will then need YOUR help in digging the
soil conditioner into these areas ready for planting.
We will also be working with Swaffham Youthie
that evening to construct our Bug Hotel, but all are
welcome to come along and take part in this activity.
On Friday 12th we will be putting the plug plants into
the wildflower area, an ideal opportunity for children
of all ages – plus their parents and grandparents
– to take part and ensure that the garden is a real
community effort. Then on Saturday we will be
making the final additions so that the garden can be
formally opened including, thanks to the generous
donation from the South Pickenham Estate, the tree
logs that will form seating for our children’s Story
Telling Circle, an integral part of the Garden.
We hope that as many of you as possible will join us
on one or more of the days so that we can all take
pride in another initiative to make the Campingland
a more attractive venue for all ages. If more detailed
information is required please do not hesitate to
make contact via davidwickerson@btinternet.com
