Kim Colletti (MBA) handled special
marketing projects for Kemin, a
worldwide ingredients
manufacturer, when she decided to
sharpen her competitive edge. She
knew an Iowa MBA would catapult
her into an advanced role.
Six months before graduation, Kemin
promoted Kim to global cognition
product manager. Now she builds
brand awareness with businesses
and consumers across the U.S.,
Europe, and Asia.
How has she changed the most? She
thinks about her new role as running
a business—looking at the bigger
picture and assessing how to remain
competitive, how market trends
affect product launches, how to
expand the business, and how to
better support her sales team.
“ In class, I learned how to be a
good leader and motivate a team
that performs well together even
if you don’t have authority. Back
at work, I could test what I was
learning in real time and try out
some of the tools from class.”

As soon as you start the Executive MBA Program, you’ll feel a noticeable difference from every other
classroom you’ve been in. You’ll connect with high-achieving peers—entrepreneurs, physicians,
proprietors, military officers, CFOs—and expert faculty who amplify what you learn.
Starting with your EMBA study group—seasoned pros who complement your expertise—you’ll have
a steady support network throughout the program. You’ll come to learn that your classmates are
your best sounding boards for challenges in your organization now and in the future.
When Nate Kaeding (MBA) retired
from the NFL, he wanted to dive into
the ins and outs of being a business
manager. Since earning his Iowa
MBA, he’s launched three businesses,
landed an economic development
role with Iowa City’s Downtown
District, and is the Director of
Business Development and Client
Relations at Build to Suit, Inc.
Whether it’s mentoring local
entrepreneurs or driving marketing
strategy for his own businesses,
Nate draws from his Iowa MBA and
former classmates for business
expertise and insight.
“ My classmates were executives
from the HON Company,
high-powered consultants,
people making their way up
in managerial positions at the
University of Iowa Hospitals
and Clinics, the University of
Iowa, John Deere, and Pearson.
Learning about corporate culture
through my classmates was
equally as important as the
academic knowledge I gained.”

A month after beginning his job
as an anesthesiologist, Jacob
Thomas, MD (MBA) jumped
into his Iowa MBA. While doing
his residency, he recognized that a
strategic investment in high-level
business expertise would position
him to solve bigger challenges in
health care.
On a typical 12-hour day, he
manages anesthesia for up to a
dozen patients. At Iowa, Jacob is
gaining the skill set to have a seat
at the leadership table, merge his
clinical and business perspectives,
and help administrators deploy
resources that make the most sense
for patients, the hospital, and health
care in America.
Having such a packed schedule, he
appreciates that Tippie takes care of
the smallest details—like delivering
books to students’ offices, assigning
parking spaces close to the building,
and providing food and coffee
during class.
“ Tippie really pares back
everything that isn’t 100%
essential so that the only time
we’re spending is high-yield
learning or working with our
study groups.”
When Jessica Kinney (MBA) embarked on her
Iowa MBA, she had recently moved back to Iowa
City to launch her own business and be closer to
family. She wanted to build broad-based business
acumen to supplement her deep management
experience in the food and hospitality industry.
But losing both parents during the program
raised personal doubts about whether she could
finish. Then her EMBA support system stepped
in to help.
“ Tippie really does go out of its way to help
you. There were times, especially during
the first semester, that I thought doing this
program was not going to be a good idea,
and I was getting behind and struggling.
Then the assistant director of the EMBA
program sat down with me and made me
realize I could do it.”
