NEW TRIER
From Page 36
it was a combination of
things,” Doll said. “For us,
we didn’t get a defensive
stop right at the beginning
and they got a couple
first downs and our kids
weren’t as responsive as
they had been this year. We
finally got a couple scores
and the big touchdown by
Donovan Perkins got us
going last night.
“Sometimes you need
those plays to change the
atmosphere for your sideline.”
Two Niles North possessions
later, the Trevians
picked off the Vikings
quarterback at the
New Trier 32-yard line,
giving the Trevians the
ball back. Brian Sitzer
Soccer
From Page 39
North champions, went toe
to toe with the Trevians
and played them evenly.
They had some chances at
the end and played strong
defensively overall.
“We played well and
withstood their spurt,”
Highland Park coach
Blake Novotny said.
“With how they started
the second half, it looked
would score the first of
his three touchdowns on
the day to cap that drive,
giving the Trevians a 14-0
lead with just under seven
minutes to go in the first
half.
The Trevians’ next possession,
after a Niles North
three-and-out, was finished
with a 71-yard touchdown
pass from Ochsenhirt to
Perkins. And the rout was
on.
“I use this game like it’s
any other, play my game
the way I know how,” Perkins
said. “You can’t take
it easy on anyone.”
Sitzer would add fourand
15-yard touchdowns
on the game’s second day,
to give the Trevians a 35-0
lead. A big defensive stop
on fourth-and-goal from
the New Trier three-yard
like they would have the
chance to go up 2-1. But
we turned things around.
We had a couple of shifts.
Danny Barragan was
playing center back and
he really stepped up. Our
keeper made some great
saves. We defended their
corner kicks well. We
knew we had to believe
we could beat them and
we didn’t back down.”
And offensively, they
scored right away and had
line, a fumble recovery by
NT gave the Trevs the ball
deep in their own territory
but an eight-play drive,
capped by a Cameron Powell
25-yard touchdown run
started the running clock
and got the team prepared
for next week’s battle with
Maine South.
The last time the Trevians
and Hawks battled
in Park Ridge, New Trier
ended Maine South’s 77-
game conference winning
streak with a 38-28 win.
With both teams being
the lone undefeated teams
left in the CSL South, the
game will essentially be
the division’s title game.
“It’s going to be a great
game, a very exciting
crowd,” Perkins said. “We
have to watch film and
we’ll be ready.”
shots in the second half
that just missed going in.
“We may have scored
a little too quickly,” Novotny
said. “After that
for a while we were kind
of having to play defense
more than we would
have liked. We had some
chances late in the game.
Their goalie obviously
made a great save. But we
showed we can play with
anyone and I’m proud of
how we competed.”
