THANDAINJA This high-volume, low-cost Thanda Inja Animal Welfare Hospital, the first of its kind in Ekurhuleni in South Africa will be available to all animal owners that are unable to afford commercial veterinary solutions. The hospital will also offer low-cost, affordable veterinary care to other welfare organizations who are unable to service their communities due to limited access to a well-equipped animal welfare hospital. Since the inception of Thanda Inja in 2014 the project has grown to where it now needs a more sustainable hub-and-spoke community offering with its own hospital, vets and mobile clinics and ambulances. The Pug Rescue/Thanda Inja initiation of partnering with the Gauteng Department of Agricultural and Rural Development (GDARD) has opened the way for other Rescue Organisations to also have access to their resources, thus impacting on GDARD availability and shared resources for the Thanda Inja initiatives. Thus we find ourselves in a unique but exciting situation. The time has come to build a well-equipped world-class animal welfare hospital in Benoni with the offering of mobile veterinary trucks and ambulances to enable the Thanda Inja project to expand this offering to a larger geographical area. Without ownership and registration of a physical veterinary hospital or clinic, Thanda Inja is unable to offer any legal veterinary services or campaigns within the communities. — 31 —
