Land Purchased For The <strong>Thanda</strong> <strong>Inja</strong><br />

Animal Welfare Hub-And-Spoke Hospital<br />

The Land Purchased – 83 Kirschner Road,<br />

Benoni North Agricultural Holdings,<br />

Johannesburg - covers 16 242 sq m. It is<br />

centrally situated on the Eastrand for the<br />

spatial development nodes (low-income<br />

housing developments) as set out by<br />

Government. The land offers immediate<br />

access to our partners, Pug Rescue SA,<br />

and has been secured by a Donor. Our<br />

immediate need is to purchase and register<br />

the property. MZ Town Planning and<br />

Property Services is handling the re-zoning.<br />

The Gauteng Spatial Development<br />

Framework (SDF) 2013 – ‘Building Gauteng<br />

for All through equitable, responsible and<br />

efficient development – identifies the<br />

5 focus areas of shared economic<br />

prosperity, socio-economic integration,<br />

economic consolidation, social and local<br />

economic support, and rural enterprise<br />

support.<br />

The Spatial Planning and Land Use<br />

Management Act 16 of 2013 identifies 6<br />

key policy directives – natural resources,<br />

connectivity, urban form, space economy,<br />

human settlements, and infrastructure.<br />

Within these are aspect that have relevance<br />

to the <strong>Thanda</strong> <strong>Inja</strong> Community hub-andspoke<br />

initiative, namely revitalise township<br />

economies; support rural livelihoods;<br />

promote high-density developments in<br />

nodes and corridors; focus on urban<br />

renewal, clustering and densification;<br />

develop quality living environments.<br />

The Gauteng 10-pillar<br />

programme for the<br />

economic, social and spatial<br />

transformation will require the<br />

key elements of:<br />

• TRANSFORMING THE HISTORIC SPATIAL ECONOMY AND HUMAN<br />

SETTLEMENT PATTERNS TO INTEGRATE ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITIES,<br />

TRANSPORT CORRIDORS AND HUMAN SETTLEMENTS<br />

• REVITALIZING AND MAINSTREAMING THE TOWNSHIP ECONOMY<br />

• ENHANCING THE COMPETITIVENESS OF STRATEGIC ECONOMIC SECTORS<br />

• SIGNIFICANT INVESTMENT IN ECONOMIC INFRASTRUCTURE<br />
