The New Smyrna Beach Area includes the following communities: Edgewater, Oak Hill,<br />

Port Orange, Osteen and New Smyrna Beach. From historic downtowns and farms, to<br />

beach locations and quaint communities, to various parks and trails, the New Smyrna<br />

Beach Area provides a myriad of opportunities to bring your vision to life. With<br />

five international airports from as close as 18 miles away, and the proximity to Interstate<br />

95 and Interstate 4, our area is easy to get to and to navigate. Some of our unique<br />

features include Old Fort Park, the Canaveral National Seashore, the Atlantic Center for<br />

the Arts, world-class surfing and fishing, the Indian River Lagoon, and 17 miles of white,<br />

sandy beach that would make the perfect backdrop for any production. New Smyrna<br />

Beach also has two main historic downtowns — Canal Street and Flagler Avenue — that<br />

give off the perfect quaint, small-town feel.<br />

As one of the top tourist destinations in Florida, Volusia County<br />

attracts a wide range of individuals from across the globe. That<br />

diverse audience paired with industry-trained professionals and<br />

an array of picturesque locations provides the ideal backdrop for<br />

film, commercial and television production. With close proximity<br />

to major metros such as Orlando, Tampa and Jacksonville, access<br />

to world-class production studios and soundstages are just a<br />

short drive away. The New Smyrna Beach Area Visitors Bureau<br />

will assist in connecting you with the appropriate organizations for<br />

your next film.<br />

We’re Here to Help!<br />

It’s important to contact the film office prior to any filming activity<br />

as we require a film permit to be on file as well as a certificate of<br />

insurance. Please allow up to two weeks after the receipt of your<br />

completed permit application and insurance to obtain a permit for<br />

your production.<br />

To ensure a quick turnaround of<br />

your film permit, please:<br />

1. Fill out the application in detail, including<br />

dates and times, and be sure to sign.<br />

2. Fill out the Certificate of Insurance<br />

(COI) and list the County of Volusia as<br />

additionally insured, and/or city where<br />

you wish to film.<br />

3. Send both documents to<br />

debbie@visitnsbfla.com and<br />

danielle@visitnsbfla.com<br />

4. We will review the documents for details<br />

and will submit your permit application<br />

to the proper authority.<br />

5. We appreciate having a minimum of two<br />

weeks to process.<br />

6. Any additional information on the shoot<br />

is most helpful and could eliminate many<br />

It’s always good to know others have already found success shooting and producing in an<br />

area. Here is a list of those who have shot or produced in the region in recent years:<br />

The Cooking Channel – “Emeril’s<br />

Florida” (2013)<br />

Celebrity chef Emeril Lagasse visited and<br />

filmed a segment for his “Emeril’s Florida”<br />

show at Goodrich Seafood & Oyster House<br />

in Oak Hill, Fla. The renowned chef tasted<br />

some of Goodrich’s signature dishes and<br />

interviewed Karyn McNamara, Goodrich’s<br />

proprietor, as well as Jim Goodrich, who<br />

built the restaurant with his father in 1971.<br />

The Travel Channel (2013)<br />

New Smyrna Beach restaurant, The Garlic,<br />

was featured on one of the Travel Channel’s<br />

shows.<br />

Grace (2014)<br />

Gracie wakes up and finds herself on a<br />

Florida beach – 1,100 miles from home.<br />

When Gracie is arrested for public<br />

drunkenness and assaulting a police<br />

officer, she is given a choice: six months<br />

in jail or 90 meetings of Alcoholics<br />

Anonymous in 90 days that she must do in<br />

the small town she’s landed in. The entire<br />

film takes place in New Smyrna Beach.<br />

Tomorrowland (2015)<br />

A Walt Disney Pictures science fiction/<br />

mystery/adventure film starring George<br />

Clooney. In this film, a genius inventor<br />

and teenage science enthusiast embark<br />

to an alternate dimension known as<br />

‘Tomorrowland.’ Scenes were primarily shot<br />

along Canal Street, New Smyrna Beach’s<br />

mainland downtown district, and US 1.<br />

Orlando My Way (2016)<br />

Hearst Digital vignettes.<br />

Curious Traveler TV (2016)<br />

The New Smyrna Beach area was featured<br />

in three episodes of the Curious Traveler TV<br />

series “Let’s Go!”<br />

Garden & Gun (2016)<br />

New Smyrna Beach was used as the<br />

backdrop for a Garden & Gun cover photo<br />

shoot in June 2016.<br />

Travel Channel – “Hotel<br />

Impossible: Showdown” (2016)<br />

The Night Swan Intracoastal Bed &<br />

Breakfast was featured on this Travel<br />

Channel show and won $25,000 while<br />

competing against three other hotels in<br />

the “Stone Crab Cold Florida” episode.<br />

HGTV – “Beachfront Bargain<br />

Hunt” (2016-2017)<br />

New Smyrna Beach was featured in an<br />

episode of HGTV’s “Beachfront Bargain<br />

Hunt” when a family wanted to find a<br />

beachfront home and investment property<br />

in New Smyrna Beach, Fla., where they had<br />

spent a lot of time.<br />

Ron Jon Surf Shop (2017)<br />

New Smyrna Beach was used as the<br />

backdrop for Ron Jon’s photo and video<br />

shoot that will be used for marketing and<br />

advertising purposes throughout the year.<br />

on the TLC show “Kindred Spirits.”<br />

Crawford Entertainment —<br />

“How to do Florida” (2017)<br />

New Smyrna Beach was featured in one of<br />

Chad Crawford’s “How to do Florida” episodes.<br />

The Ladybirds of the University<br />

of Louisville Documentary (2017)<br />

A documentary crew followed the University<br />

of Louisville Ladybirds and coach around<br />

the New Smyrna Beach area as they prepared<br />

for their national competition.<br />

The Minorcan Connection (2018)<br />

The history of New Smyrna Beach was<br />

explored in this film that featured Old Fort<br />

Park / Turnbull Ruins and the Minorcan<br />

exhibit in the New Smyrna Museum of History.<br />

WE tv — Love After Lockup (2018)<br />

A New Smyrna Beach couple was featured<br />

Florida Surf <strong>Film</strong> Festival<br />

The Florida Surf <strong>Film</strong> Festival is a 501(c)(3) non-profit whose mission is to invigorate surf<br />

culture and artistic appreciation by exhibiting contemporary documentary films with surfing<br />

as a focus from artists far and wide and operate featured-artist workshops in journalism,<br />

photography, and filmmaking. The Florida Surf <strong>Film</strong> Festival, established in December of 2012,<br />

is held at Atlantic Center for the Arts.<br />

The Hub on Canal’s <strong>Film</strong> Festival highlights films and film posters<br />

created by students from Volusia County High Schools. Judging for<br />
