He is survived by Doris, his wife of 58 years, as well as his son Scott (Maria) Fowkes of Wilmette and his daugther Heather (David) Scott of Glenview. He is also survived by five granchildren: Michael and John Scott; and Alexander, Emma and Miles Fowkes. After serving in the Army and graduating from Loyola University, Fowkes was active in politics and then had a long and successful business career, first with Bell & Howell, then at CX Corporation in Seattle, WA, and later as a consultant. He was an avid tennis player, golfer and Chicago sports fan. During retirement, Fowkes was a fixture at his grandchildren’s games and activities in Wilmette and Glenview. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. Memorial Mass will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 23, at Sheil Catholic Center at Northwestern University, 2110 Sheridan Rd, Evanston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Ruth Whitley Nagle Ruth Whitley Nagle died Oct. 27 at Whitehall in Deerfield. Nagle was born in Como, N.C., to Mildred Barrett Whitley and Linwood Whitley. Predeceased by her parents and only sister, Patricia Gayle Whitley Gordon, and husband David C. Nagle. The Nagles lived most of their life in Wilmette and raised their three children there. More recently they lived in Chapel Hill, N.C.. Nagle is survived by her children: Michael David Nagle (Linda Seiler) Salt Lake City; Julie Ann Nagle Maranto (Anthony Maranto Jr.) Lake Bluff; and Amy Elizabeth Nagle, Mundelein. Grandchildren: Melissa Caroline Maranto, Lake Bluff; Madeline Rose Maranto (Michael Leventhal), New York; and Anthony Vincent Maranto III, Lake Bluff. Also, sister-in-law Nancy Nagle Widden (Rick), Glendale, Ariz. and brother-in-law Nelson Nagle (Janet), Tempe, Ariz. and beloved relatives and dear friends. In lieu of a service, Ruth wished memorials be made to a church or charity of your choice. Lorelei M. Shay Lorelei M. Shay, 89, died Sunday, Nov. 4, in McHenry. She was born in Chicago on Dec. 4, 1928, the daughter of Conrad and Dolores (Merten) Meilicke. Shay was a graduate of Stephens College for Women (Missouri). She was an Interior Designer, Artist, Professional Fashion Model, Display Designer (Carson Pirie Scott-State Street) and an accomplished Pianist. She married her high school sweetheart, William Shay, on Oct. 15, 1949. Shay had two daughters, Constance and Courtney. As a long-time resident of Wilmette, she was an active member of St. Francis Xavier Church and volunteer at the school. She was also an active member of St. Patrick’s Church and Holy Apostles Church in McHenry. She was an avid volunteer for many charitable organizations. Shay and her husband spent many wonderful years at their second home in Sister Bay, Wisconsin. Family was very important to her and she will be greatly missed. She is survived by her daughters, Constance Shay-Hadley, Courtney (Robert) Campe; grandchildren, Mary (Jorge) Reyes, Constance Kathleen Campe, Kathryn Shay (Patrick) Brown, Elizabeth Shay Hadley; great-grandchildren, Connor, Katherine, Shay, Colin, and Kyle. She was preceded in death by her parents, Conrad and Dolores Meilicke; husband, William Shay; and her brother, Ronald Meilicke. Visitation was held on Thursday, Nov. 8 at Colonial Funeral Home, 591 Ridgeview Dr., McHenry. Funeral Mass was held on Friday, Nov. 9, at Church of Holy Apostles, 5211 Bull Valley Rd., McHenry.
