Food Park in Aurangabad District in Maharashtra

Badal inaugurated the second Mega 

Food Park in Maharashtra. Promoted by 

M/s Paithan Mega Food Park Pvt Ltd, 

the Park is located in in Wahegaon and 

Dhangaon village in Paithan Taluka of 

Aurangabad district. A 3rd Mega Food 

Park has been sanctioned by the Ministry 

in Maharashtra and is under implementation 

in Wardha District while the 

first Park was inaugurated on 1st of 

March 2018 in Satara district. The 

Paithan Mega Food Park Park has been 

set up in 102 acre of land at a cost of Rs. 

124.52 crore. The facilities created by 

the developer at Central Processing 

Centre (CPC) of this Mega Food Park 

include Dry Warehouse of 10,000 MT, 

Cold storage of 1,000 MT, Pre-cooling 

facility of 10 MT, Ripening chambers of 

400 MT, IQF Facility of 1.5 MTPH, 

Freezer room of 1,000 MT, 5 MTPH 

Juice Line with 1.5 MTPH of Aseptic 

packaging Line,Steam sterilisation and 

generation unit of 4 MTPH, Food Testing 

lab, Reefer vans of 30 MT and Milk 

Tankers of 50 MT, Milk Processing facility 

of 1,00,000 LPD with Bulk Milk 

Chilling of 20,000 Liter and other food 

processing facilities.The Park also has a 

common Administrative building for office 

and other uses by the entrepreneurs 

and 3 PPCs at Paithan, Alephata and 

Kannad having facilities for primary 

processing and storage near the 

farms.This Mega Food Park will benefit 

the people of Aurangabad District as 

well as nearby Districts of Nasik, Dhule, 

New Delhi, A regional review meeting 

of the Eastern States was held in 

Kolkata, West Bengal. The workshop 

comprised discussions on sustaining 

Open Defecation Free (ODF) status, 

Solid and Liquid Waste Management 

(SLWM), and rural water supply. 

Teams from West Bengal, Jharkhand, 

Bihar and Odisha joined the review. 

Key aspects of sustainability such as 

geo-tagging, verification of ODF villages, 

conversion of dysfunctional 

toilets, IEC expenditure, Swachhagrahi 

engagement were reviewed. In 

his opening address, the Hon'ble Minister 

of Public Health Engineering, 

Government of West Bengal, Shri 

Subrata Mukherjee, emphasised on 

the importance of sustaining safe sanitation 

practices and shared the State's 

commitment towards achieving open 

defecation free status. West Bengal 

currently has a rural sanitation coverage 

of 97% and is on track to becoming 

ODF much before the national 

target of October 2019. Speaking on 

the occasion, Shri Parameswaran 

Iyer, Secretary, Ministry of Drinking 

Water and Sanitation, 

congratulated the team 

from Jharkhand for declaring 

the State as 

Open Defecation Free 

today. He further emphasized 

the importance 

of continuing 

behavior change efforts 

and periodic verifications 

to ensure that the 

safe sanitation habits 

and practices developed 

over the past few

Ahmednagar. Speaking on the occasion, 

Smt. Badal said that the Mega Food 

Park will leverage an additional investment 

of about Rs. 250 crore in 25-30 

food processing units in the park and 

would eventually lead to a turnover of 

about Rs. 450-500 crore annually. The 

Park will also provide direct and indirect 

employment to 5,000 persons and benefit 

about 25,000 farmers in the CPC 

and PPC catchment areas. The Minister 

added that the modern infrastructure for 

food processing created at Park will 

benefit the farmers, growers, processors 

and consumers of Maharashtra and adjoining 

areas immensely and prove to be 

a big boost to the growth of the food 

processing sector in the State of Maharashtra. 

Badal also said that the government 

is fully committed to providing an 

environment that is smooth, transparent 

and easy for investors wanting to start an 

enterprise in India and in a bid to make 

India a resilient food economy and the 

Food Factory of the World, the government 

has made Food Processing a major 

thrust area of ‘Make in India’. Smt. Harsimrat 

Badal thanked the Chief Minister 

and the State Government for the support 

extended by them in setting up the 

Mega Food Park. Ministry of Food Processing 

Industries is focussed on boosting 

the food processing industry in India 

so that agriculture sector grows exponentially 

and becomes a major contributor

Indian Navy completes refit of 

Maldivian Coast Guard Ship Huravee 

New Delhi, Maldivian Coast Guard Ship (MCGS) Huravee successfully completed 

her refit at Naval Dockyard Visakhapatnam and the ship was formally 

handed over to Major Mohamed Jamshad, Commanding Officer MCGS Huravee 

in a ceremony organised to commemorate the occasion on 15 November 

2018. The chief guest for the function, Rear Admiral Amit Bose, Admiral Superintendent 

Naval Dockyard thereafter addressed the gathering wherein he 

ensured continued support of the Indian Navy to the Maldivian Coast Guard. 

The Commanding Officer also took this opportunity to thank the Indian Navy 

for the successful completion of the refit. The event concluded by customary 

crest exchange between the ship and the chief guest. The four-month long refit 

to MCGS Huravee is an initiative by the Indian Navy undertaken in furtherance 

of the Indian Navy's diplomatic outreach to friendly foreign navies in the 

Indian Ocean Region. The ship had arrived at Visakhapatnam on 12 Jul 18 

and successfully completed her refit on 14 Nov 18. 

During the refit, major repairs were undertaken on the ship’s hull, main propulsion 

and auxiliaries. In addition number of systems and equipment were upgraded 

for better performance and reliability. All equipment were put through 

extensive harbour and sea trials so as to achieve full combat capability of the 

ship and ensure her continuous availability for operations to the Maldives 

Coast Guard for next operational cycle. MCGS Huravee was originally commissioned 

as INS Tillanchang, a Trinkat class patrol vessel built by Garden 

Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers, Kolkatta in Mar 2001 and was subsequently 

gifted to Maldives by the Govt of India in Apr 2006 to strengthen the 

strategic partnership between the two nations and work together to ensure the 

maritime safety of the Indian Ocean Region. The Indian Government through 

the Navy has undertaken such diplomatic courtesies previously when it undertook 

the refit of the ship in 2015.

Impact of GST has largely been positive and constructive 

on Pharma Sector: Mansukh Mandaviya

Services Tax (GST) on Pharma sector 

has largely been positive and constructive, 

informed Minister of State 

for Road Transport, Highways, Shipping 

and Chemicals & Fertilizers, 

Shri Mansukh Mandaviya, in a statement 

here today. Following the vision 

of Prime Minister of India, Shri 

Narendra Modi, to ensure health security 

for all citizens of India, the 

Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers 

has taken various steps to ensure 

availability of ‘Affordable, Quality 

Medicines for All’, the Minister 

added. In this background, Mandaviya 

informed that the Pharma 

sector has seen a positive growth 

after the implementation of GST. 

This is evident from the following:- 

Before GST, Annual Turnover of the 

Pharma Sector (as on 31.05.2017) 

was Rs 1,14,231 crores while after 

GST, the Annual Turnover of Pharma 

sector (as on 31.05.2018) touched Rs 

1,31,312 crores, which is 6% higher 

than the Pre-GST regime. Exports 

from Pharma Sector during 2016-17 

were Rs 2,75,852 crores while post- 

GST, in the year 2017-18, they were 

recorded at Rs 3,03,526 crores, which 

is 10% higher than the Pre-GST 

Regime. The Minister added that as 

per estimates, the export figure for the 

current year is likely to be Rs 

3,27,700 crores, which will be almost 

12% higher than the export figure of 

Pre-GST regime (2016-17). Further, 

it was informed that there has been a 

significant jump in number of Drug 

Approvals from 7,857 before GST 

(01.07.2016 to 30.06.2017) to 10,446 

post-GST (01.07.2017 to 

30.06.2018). 

Elaborating on the reasons for this 

positive impact post-GST, Shri Mandaviya 

said that under the ‘One Nation, 

One Tax’ regime, the removal of 

complexity of multiple taxes has reduced 

their cascading effect on the 

final product. GST is expected to decrease 

the manufacturing cost in view 

of merging of different taxes levied 

earlier and promote ease of doing 

business. It will create one single 

market for all stakeholders with equal 

chance towards development. Mandaviya 

informed that due to discontinuation 

of Central Sales Tax 

post-GST, it will reduce transaction 

costs, as inter-state transaction between 

two dealers will become tax 

neutral. Now, the pharma companies 

can consolidate their warehouses at 

strategic locations, effecting a reduction 

in cost of distribution. As a result, 

it will benefit warehouse strategy and 

improve supply chain efficiency in 

pharma sector, the Minister explained. 

ICG launches large-scale proactive actions 

to reduce impact from Cyclone GAJA 

New Delhi, Indian Coast Guard (ICG) initiated a large-scale series of preemptive 

and proactive measures to prevent loss of fishermen lives at sea in 

the wake of alerts on cyclone in Bay of Bengal since November 09, 2018. 

Lessons from cyclone Ockhi and success in preventing loss of lives during 

recent cyclones Luban and Titliwere put into practice by the ICG. Around 

eight ICG ships and two Dornier aircraft were pressed into action since November 

09, 2018 for issuance of advisories and warnings in local languages 

to fishermen at sea for their safe return to ports. The Coast Guard Remote 

Operating Stations commenced issuance of warnings for fishermen in local 

languages. The Indian Coast Guard requested fisheries authorities at Tamil 

Nadu and Andhra Pradesh to account for all fishing boats. The ICG conducted 

series of community interaction programmes at Kanyakumari, 

Mandapam, Rameswaram, Cuddalore, Chennai, Nellore, 

Nizampatnam, Uppada and Vishakhapatnam to sensitise 

fishermen and coastal population for taking safety measures 

for the impending cyclone. Anticipating the need of relief 

material and essential items post impact of cyclone in Southern 

Tamil Nadu areas of Mandapam and Karaikal. One large 

ICG ship with Helicopter embarked was sailed from 

Vishakhapatnam with relief items such as potable drinking 

water, essential medicines, packaged food and life-saving 

material to southern Tamil Nadu coast. 

Network for Development of Agricultural 

Cooperatives in Asia and the Pacific sets 

agenda for Cooperatives to cooperatives trade 

New Delhi, Addressing the inaugural session of the General 

Assembly of Network for Development of Agricultural Cooperatives 

in Asia and the Pacific(NEDAC) in New Delhi 

today Shri Parshottam K Rupala, Union Minister of State for 

Agriculture and Farmers Welfare said that NEDAC is a 

unique organization encompassing mix of Government and 

non Government organizations created by FAO for synergizing 

policies and programmes of government and cooperative 

institutions at country level. He informed that cooperatives 

have exhibited better form of success stories to enhance production 

and better returns to produce from market through 

collective action. Welcoming the NEDAC delegates on behalf 

of India, Shri Sundeep Kumar Nayak, Managing Director 

NCDC stated that besides GA agenda, parallel thematic 

sessions are going to be held on ‘Cooperatives to Cooperative 

Trade’ and ‘Capacity Development partnerships in 

NEDAC’. The ultimate aim would be to bring about an increase 

in farmers income and raise their economic standard 

by bringing cooperative trade in the mainstream and enhance 

cooperative professionalism. 

The general assembly of 22 prominent cooperative organizations 

from eight countries unanimously decided to focus 

on C2C and capacity development to meet challenges of climate 

change as transformative cooperatives. Mr. Orlado R. 

Ravanera, Chairman, Cooperative Development Authority, 

Philippines and Co-Chairman NEDAC hoped that the cooperatives 

of Asia and the Pacific come together to face the 

challenges of climate change. NEDAC was set up in 1991 

by the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organisation 

(FAO), the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) and the 

International Labour Organisation (ILO). NEDAC sensitises 

Governments in the region on the role of agricultural cooperatives 

in promoting agricultural and rural development to 

ensure rural food and livelihood security for millions of people 

in Asia and Pacific.
