Georgios Banquets, Quality Inn & Suites
Conference Centre completes $1M renovation
Georgios has been again voted the best
of The Chicago Southland Banquet Hall
2018 for a 16th consecutive year, and
won a Best of Weddings Award from The
Knot for the fifth year.
Georgios features four banquet rooms,
each with a private staircase, customized
elevated head table and hospitality room
especially made for wedding parties, and
the ability to combine three of the banquet
halls into a grand ball room to accommodate
up to 1,000 people. We have
modernized our look to a luxurious silver,
black, marble and white palette, creating
a more intimate and elegant feel, featuring
rich mirrored décor. Our wedding
package includes a lot in the price: the
wedding cake, open premium bar, a honeymoon
suite with whirlpool for the bride
and groom, along with a discounted hotel
room block. Ordering more in one place,
like a one stop shop, makes it easier for
couples to plan and avoid stress.
Event coordinators are in the office at
Georgios seven days a week and make
planning a breeze for clients. We work
as a team letting the client know we are
only a call or an email away. Not only do
we take care of the day of pre-wedding
details, we also take the ease off our couples
by providing an experienced event
manager to execute your special day of
requests, putting out favors, champagne
Started by George Georgiou — Doulas’
Memory loss:
Find peace, joy
Those caring for loved ones with Alzheimer’s
disease, dementia or other types
of memory loss are no longer alone.
The Legacy: Memory Support’s team of
trained caregivers offers personalized care
and a unique approach to caring for seniors
with memory loss.
Legacy Living means that caregivers
are making sure their loved ones are cared
for in the best way possible based on their
needs. Choosing Legacy Living fulfills the
promise caregivers make to their loved
ones.
The Legacy lets each day gently unfold,
taking into account each senior’s preferences
and comfort levels. The Legacy’s
person-centered programming promotes
socialization during a time that can feel
incredibly isolating. The staff, who come
in each day refreshed and revitalized, take
care of the day-to-day tasks so family
members can go back to being that role in
their loved one’s life.
This unique approach works in tandem
with The Legacy’s building, which has
been created to strategically cater to its
residents with memory loss. Every detail
at The Legacy: Memory Support has been
designed with those loved ones in mind.
The continuous, figure-eight walking
paths make it so one can always find
their way to their destination. Meanwhile,
customized memory boxes hang outside
of rooms to help residents know they are
home. Bathrooms are set at an angle in the
apartments, so that residents have a clear
idea of how to enter and exit. The kitchen/
dining areas are built for smaller groups,
which leads to less noise and interruptions
and more individualized attention.
For more than 55 years, the Heritage
family of senior living campuses has been
caring for seniors in various stages of life
and health. In that time, it has learned the
best ways to care for those with memory
loss. It has combined the most effective
methods for its unique approach, calling
it Life Unrehearsed. It allows seniors to
live life at their comfort level, with each
day full of peace and joy.
Anybody visiting Lockport should seriously
consider a stop at Taco Patio, an
upscale fast food restaurant, serving some
seriously fresh, yet reasonably priced,
Mexican food in a contemporary setting.
Since its opening seven years ago, Taco
Patio has seen its family business grow
and flourish within the community.
In addition to the great food, the Taco
Patio family has shown a lot of love for
the community. From the Old Canal Days
parade to a variety of fundraisers to supporting
local schools and organizations,
the business has become a true part of the
community.
“We really love the area and all the people
that dine here are great,” said Christos
Giannakopoulos, owner of Taco Patio.
Taco Patio is so much more than just
good fast food. Here are a few new and
exciting features.
Margaritas & Mariachi
Taco Patio is serving a selection of
imported and domestic beers, as well as
margaritas.
Where does the mariachi band come in?
“We wanted to bring something fun
once in a while for the customers to enjoy,”
said Nasia Katris, manager at Taco
Patio.
So customers can be on the lookout for
the first Margaritas & Mariachi night. It is
definitely going to be something new and
exciting in the new year.
New technology to make things easier
and faster
Everyone who has been to Taco Patio
knows one can call in an order and have it
hot and ready upon arrival.
Customers can even pick up through
the drive-thru, which is great for those
days people do not feel like getting out of
their cars.
Now, Taco Patio has added some updates.
Download the Taco Patio app to order
from a phone or order online — quick,
new, no-hassle ways to order when those
taco cravings hit in the middle of that
meeting.
Catering
Taco Patio’s catering program is a wellkept
secret, about which many are slowly
learning through word of mouth from
very satisfied customers.
“Customers would come in and ask
for food from Taco Patio for their parties
and work functions because they loved
our freshness and taste, so we decided to
make it official,” Giannakopoulos said.
Taco Patio can accommodate any size
party, including office meetings, baby
showers, school functions and birthday
parties. The restaurant also delivers and
sets up everything. It is pretty flexible on
how far employees will travel.
Satisfied customers have said the portions
are amazing and the food smells
fantastic, and guests have raved that it is
excellent.
Taco Patio launched the official catering
menu this year and plans on adding
dessert options, as well, this holiday season.
So, if you are having a holiday party
and want to spice things up, call Taco Patio
and really make it a fiesta!
Worry-free living at Alvernia Manor Senior Living
Is mom living alone? Are
you concerned of her safety?
Is she able to reach out
quickly for assistance should
something happen? Do you
worry dad is taking his daily
medications as prescribed or
eating nutritional meals? Is
the hired home care provider
giving that special aunt all
the care, attention and socialization
she needs and deserves?
Alvernia Manor Senior
Living is the “hidden gem”
that can ease your family’s
concerns. The mission of this
unique senior living community
is to provide seniors a
loving, safe and caring home.
Alvernia Manor has a warm,
homey setting, its walls
In addition, there are no annuities
For more than 45 years the
School Sisters of St. Francis
of Christ the King and their
dedicated staff have cared
for seniors as their own family:
with respect, love and
concern. Family and friends
refer to Alvernia Manor as
their “hidden gem”.
Alvernia Manor is located
on a hilltop in the southwest
suburb of Lemont. With its
beautiful bluff location, the
vivid colors of the four seasons
are played out annually
in panoramic view. The Little
Bit of Heaven pavilion is a
favorite spot for residents to
have the opportunity to enjoy
entertainment and other special
outings, like a trip to
the many activities on Alvernia’s
monthly activity calendar.
There are definitely fun
times enjoyed by all.
Alvernia Manor’s wellness
All this adds up to no more
In addition, adult day services
the care and recreation they
while caregivers go
to work or get a much needed
Seven is Lockport Resource Center’s lucky number
Whether roaming the
hills of Rome, lighting a
menorah, or counting the
Fruits of the Spirit, seven
is a magical number. So it
is with the Lockport Resource
Center and Pass
It On Thrift Shop as we
prepare to celebrate seven
years of giving Lockport
a hand up, a connection
to rewrite his or her story,
or just a friendly ear and a
safe place to visit with new
friends. In a return to our
roots in the local church
community, we are reaching
out to ask the entire
community to spend the
first seven weeks of 2019
to celebrate with us the
seven best things about the
Lockport Resource Center.
Our official seventh anniversary
is Feb. 14, 2019,
the reason we always have
a bowl of candy kisses,
free to anyone who stops
by. It also marks the seventh
week of the new
year, and the significance
is not lost on the leadership
team. During a recent
board of directors meeting,
members agreed enthusiastically
on the idea of a
special celebration.
The challenge was to
identify the Top 7 things
about the Resource Center.
So here they are, the seven
best things about the Lockport
Resource Center.
1. The No-Interest Pass-
It-On Emergency Relief
Loan. A small loan given
to Lockport residents to
offset unexpected costs,
such as car repairs, home
repairs or utility bills. All
loans are pay as you can
and funds roll over.
2. The Pass It On Thrift
Shop. Perhaps our best
known service or ministry,
the Thrift Shop accepts
donations of gently used
clothing, household goods
and select furniture pieces.
We are blessed to be entrusted
with quality materials
from our donors. Prices
are deliberately kept low.
3. The Bag Sale. A staple
of our business model
since early on, the Bag
Sale continues to be our
most popular promotion.
A small grocery bag can
be filled with merchandise
for $3. For $10, we have a
larger bag, and the new star
of the show is our Insider
Bag. The Insider Bag is a
reusable cloth bag emblazoned
with our logo, available
for $5 and refillable
for $5 each time. Once
per month we hold Insider
Days, during which your
Insider Bag can be filled at
the reduced price of $3. Insider
days are promoted on
social media and through
our email list.
4. Bicycle Ministry.
Partnering with Lockport
Loves, the Lockport Police
and other volunteer organizations,
we host a bicycle
drive each year to collect
used bicycles through
the police department. The
bikes are lovingly tuned
up and repaired before being
offered for sale. This
year, we held a bicycle
re-homing event, which
raised enough to sponsor
our Transformation Scholarship
for an entire year.
5. Transformation Scholarship.
Conceived at the
legendary Brownie Summit,
a meeting between the
Lockport Resource Center,
The Lockport FISH Pantry
and the police department,
the Transformation Scholarship
aims to “change the
narrative” for a Lockport
student. Past recipients
have studied at Joliet Junior
College, four-year
colleges and even OASIS
programming. If you know
a deserving Lockport student,
have them contact us
for information.
6. Connections. It’s not always
about being able to do
something in the moment;
sometimes it’s about knowing
what other resources are
available. The connectivity
of the network of people
who come through our
doors every day — whether
furnishing homes for veterans
and seniors, or tracking
down needed items for
a new arrival — are one of
the things that makes the
LRC great.
7. Our people. We are
100 percent volunteer run,
and it takes a lot to keep us
running. From balancing
the books to sorting donations
to changing light
bulbs and washing windows,
everything that happens
is a labor of love, the
love of our volunteers, the
love of our donors, and the
love of our shoppers.
So whether counting
the days of the week or
the wonders of the world,
remember, seven is truly
magic for your Lockport
Resource Center.
Get your car’s maintenance needs met at Bump & Grind
For more than 35 years,
Homer Glen’s Bump &
Grind Auto Body has been
an independent and family-owned
repair facility
that prides itself in servicing
customers and helping
them with all their collision
repair needs.
Now, the body shop people
have come to know and
trust is getting a change
for the better. Not only is
Bump & Grind getting a
full cosmetic makeover
of the offices and the exterior
of the property, but
thanks to certified technicians
it also is expanding
its services to include oil
changes and maintenance
to brakes and exhaust,
among other things.
There have been major
technological advances in
the automotive industry,
and Bump & Grind meets
the needs of most any
modern vehicle.
Many insurance companies
have revised the
guidelines with repair shops
within their repair networks.
They continue to require additional
concessions and
conditions when performing
repairs, including dictating
repair procedures
themselves. “Insurance
companies are trying very
hard to muscle customers
to repair shops that have
contracted with them; this
allows the insurance company
to control costs and in
some cases possibly could
jeopardize quality and or
safety of the repairs,” said
Kevin Flondor, the president
of Bump & Grind.
“Cars are very sophisticated
today, meaning that continued
education and ongoing
training — along with
repair procedures, such as
pre- and post-scanning —
are required by the vehicle
manufactures to assure
proper safe repair, no matter
the severity of the loss.
Our team here at Bump &
Grind has extensive manufacturer
and industry training.
However, our factory
certifications can lead us to
have concerns about some
of these changes, and the
impact they may have on
the overall repair process.
Customers need to be sure
they choose the shop they
feel has the proper credentials
and standard operating
repair procedures they deserve.”
Contrary to what customers
may hear, there
will be no out-of-pocket
wish list and “mail” it to the North
Pole.
Indoor activities will also include a
about your pet’s costume for a chance to
win. Photos will be printed and displayed
for all to view and cast votes. There will
Here” holiday cutout board will offer a
#HomerForTheHolidays Instagram photo
opportunity. Music for the event includes
live Christmas carols sung by the choir
students of Homer Junior High School
and Oak Prairie Junior High School. The
Cross of Glory Band will also add musical
talents to the festivities with their own
renditions of beloved holiday music. Seasonal
refreshments for all will be generously
provided by Konow’s Corn Maze
and Joey’s Red Hots.
The Christmas tree lighting ceremony
will conclude the event, outside the Village
Hall, with the lighting of a 30-feet
evergreen tree, specifically donated to
the Village for this event from residents
James and Nancy Walker, and transported
Hall and will be decorated by M&D
Diamond’s Family Restaurant hopes to unite families for the holidays
Community involvement is a
core value for Diamond’s Family
Restaurant and Bar, 16529 W.
159th St., in the Jewel plaza behind
Starbuck’s in Lockport.
When Lockport resident Teresa
Bahryjczuk opened the restaurant
in September 2018, she
knew she wanted it to become
a gathering place for families in
the community.
“The biggest thing about our
restaurant is that it is more of a
family-style restaurant,” Teresa
said. “We provide home-cooked
meals. The food here is made to
order from our kitchen to your
table.”
At Diamond’s Family Restaurant,
the food is made from
scratch, with the exception of a
few appetizers.
“I take pride in serving fresh,
not frozen foods,” Teresa said.
The menu at Diamond’s Family
Restaurant is large and can be
categorized as American traditional.
While there are a variety of offerings
on the menu, Teresa said
their most popular items are the
half-pound, hand-packed burger
($8.95), flat-iron steak sandwich
($11.49) and the Diamond
chopped salad ($12.49).
The offerings don’t stop there.
Diamond’s Family Restaurant
sets itself apart with its daily
lunch buffet.
The buffet is from 11 a.m.-2
p.m. and is $6.99 for adults and
$4.99 for children 10 and younger.
On top of that, the restaurant
also offers daily specials.
On Mondays, stop in for a
po’boy sandwich ($8.95), which
is a beef patty served on garlic
bread with grilled onions, American
cheese and your choice of
side.
Tuesdays are taco night. Come
for a Taco Dinner ($6.95), which
includes three beef or chicken
tacos, topped with cheese and
cilantro, and served with a bed
of lettuce, tomato rice and beans.
Add steak for an extra $2.
Diamond Family Restaurant’s
famous half-pound, hand-packed
burger is on special for $5 on
Wednesdays. The burger comes
with a choice of french fries,
tater tots or a side salad. Add
cheese for $1 or upgrade your
side for an additional charge.
Fresh bone-in or boneless
wings ($5) are on special every
Thursday.
Then, customers can come
right back on Friday for the Malibu
chicken sandwich ($8.95),
which is a grilled chicken breast
with ham, Swiss cheese, lettuce
and tomato, all served on a bun
with a choice of side.
Saturday is chicken Parmesan
sandwich night ($8.95).
The classic is made with handbreaded
chicken breast, marinara
sauce, and mozzarella and Parmesan
cheeses on a bun with a
choice of side.
The week ends on Sunday
with the Italian beef sandwich
($8.95).
In an effort to give back to the
community that supports Diamond’s,
Teresa donates 10 percent
of the restaurant’s Tuesday
sales to a local charity or school.
“I am a strong believer in supporting
the local small businesses,”
she said. “I am really big at
giving back to the community,
because the community is what
keeps us alive.”
Teresa welcomes families to
her restaurant for the holiday
season and said there is something
for everyone. While children
are waiting on their food,
they can play a number of games
at the restaurant.
Local real estate group dispels
myth of spring selling season
Most people have probably
heard it before – spring
is the best time to sell a
home. It is a common misconception
and, as a result,
agents see fewer homes being
listed in the winter and
then a flood of inventory in
the spring. If people look
at this from a supply and
demand standpoint, this
actually creates a “buyer’s
market” in the spring when
inventory goes up and a
“seller’s market” in the
winter when supply goes
down.
The great news is that
there are always people
who need to buy a home
— no matter what time
of year it is. In addition,
interest rates remain low,
the economy is strong
and home prices continue
to rise. In fact, according
to the most recent MLS
data, the average sales
price for houses in Homer
Glen is up by 5.6% and our
month’s supply of homes
is down by 3.8% over this
same time last year . Right
now it is truly is a perfect
seller’s market here in
Homer Glen and a great
time to list a home for sale.
The other advantage of
listing now is that in the
spring buyers have so many
options to choose from that
they tend to take their time
looking for a home. This
means a home will probably
sit on the market a little
longer than normal. In the
winter, when inventory is
low, buyers know that they
need to move quickly to
avoid losing out. Besides,
anyone who puts on their
hat, gloves, boots and winter
coat and trudges out into
the snow to look at houses
is not just kicking tires.
They need to buy a home.
There is still time to take
advantage of this great
seller’s market and beat
the spring rush. Contact the
Dan Kenney Group today
for a private consultation.
From all of us here at
may you and yours have a
wonderful holiday season!
Hollingworth Candies makes life a little sweeter
In 1982 — with some
chocolate, pecans, butter
and a special family recipe
— Margaret Carlson began
making toffee 1 pound
at a time on her kitchen
stove in Homer Township.
She started selling her
candy at small craft shows
and soon needed to start
taking orders for friends
and family, as word spread
about the quality and
freshness of her product.
Her husband, Chester,
retired and began making
the toffee with her. Before
long, Margaret’s signature
toffee was in high demand.
In 1993, her daughter,
Wendy, joined them,and
she continues the tradition
now, bringing Hollingworth
Candies home to
happy customers.
Hollingworth Candies
has expanded to a larger
facility to make the handcrafted
toffees and candies,
and it also holds their
storefront. It is located at
926 N. State St. in Lockport.
Though toffee remains
Hollingworth’s most popular
seller, the company
also makes cashew brittle,
Chesters, gourmet caramel
apples, sea salt toffee, sea
salt caramels, chocolatedipped
strawberries and
much more. Carlson has
added her own line of
molded chocolates, called
Maggie’s Creations. Each
one is hand-painted with
colored chocolate and
molded into delicious, artful,
chocolate creations.
Hollingworth Candies has
many ideas for corporate
gifts, as well.
People can shop online
24/7 or stop in the Lockport
store. Holiday Hours
are: 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Friday;
Chesdan’s maintains status as crowd-pleaser
Historic pizzeria
tantalizes taste buds
with assortment of
dishes
At Chesdan’s, the goal is to be
innovative in adding things to
the menu — but not to the point
where people feel uncomfortable
trying new dishes.
That is the mindset of Dan
Garr, who — along with his
brother Jim — owns the Homer
Glen pizzeria and grille. The dining
establishment was started in
Brighton Park by brothers Chester
and Dan Sr., who combined
their names in 1946. The business
quickly became popular for
its pizza and other cuisine.
Garr and his brother took over
running the restaurant in 1975,
and they moved it out to Homer
Glen in 2002 when they got the
first liquor license in a village
that was incorporated just the
year prior.
Though the brand has been a
success ever since, Garr does not
rest on his laurels.
“There are some core things
we always have here,” said Garr,
noting the pizzas with fresh ingredients
and many of the pasta
dishes. “But people’s tastes have
changed over the years in what
they are looking for.”
For those looking to stick with
tradition, getting a small, 10-inch
Original King Special pizza —
with thin crust, cheese, sausage,
mushroom, onion and green pepper
— is a viable option.
“That pizza has been one of
our specialties since 1946,” Garr
said. “We still make our own
sausage. It’s fresh, never frozen.
We grind our own cheese, and
I’m very particular about the
freshness of cheese.”
The owner points out there is
a delicate balance to be found in
the dairy.
“We get the cheese direct from
Wisconsin, and if it is too fresh,
it is very dry,” he said. “And if
it is too old, it is very oily. If it’s
not right, I reject the whole lot.”
Where the restaurant has
branched out in more recent
years is in adding things like
new pasta dishes and sandwiches,
such as the chicken margarita
sandwich — a grilled chicken
breast on a French bread bun that
is toasted and served with mozzarella
and Parmesan cheeses.
Menu items like these make for
a good lunch or quick bite, according
to the owner.
If in the mood for the pasta,
the Arabiatta di Manzo — which
also comes in a meta (or halfportion)
— gives the palate plenty
of flavor with its tender beef
red pepper flakes, garlic, red
onion, mushrooms, black olives
and fresh basil tossed over penne
noodles and finished with sliced
Parmesan cheese.
“I think people like the familyowned,
solid restaurant that has
friendly service,” Garr said.
Chesdan’s also attracts customers
by coming up with daily
specials. Between wine nights,
summer entertainment on the
Chesdan’s patio and other promotions,
there is plenty to experience
with each new visit to the
restaurant.
There also are treats all ages
can enjoy, like a hand-scooped,
made-with-whole-milk, creamy
Oreo milkshake in a 22-ounce
glass mug.
Altogether, Chesdan’s is proud
of its past, while still working
hard and tweaking things here
and there for an even better future.
“It is quite fulfilling,” said
Garr, of working at the restaurant
with many family members
and providing a combination of
excellence in ambiance and cuisine.
“I love it.”
Other dishes not to miss ...
Buffalo shrimp 10-piece —
Owner Dan Garr’s favorite
Chesdan’s appetizer on which
to snack, this dish consists of
breaded and butterflied shrimp
Those who don’t have a primary
care physician need one
“Not me…I’m healthy.”
At least you think you are. When
you’re examined by a primary care physician,
you can know for sure. A PCP is
your medical point person with whom
you can have a trusted, ongoing relationship.
Health can be fragile and uncertain,
so get a doctor who can reduce your uncertainty
and even improve your health.
Better health, reduced illness and a longer
life are just a few of the well-documented
benefits of finding the right PCP.
PCPs understand your unique health
conditions, risk factors and history. Having
an established relationship with your
own physician provides preventative care,
health counseling and continuity to ensure
your good health continues.
Routine screenings, like prostate and
breast exams, can be scheduled at the
right ages and provide early detection and
treatment of life-threatening illnesses. If
you need to see a specialist, your PCP can
refer you to doctors they know and trust,
so they stay connected to you.
People who feel well can still have potential
problems. It is still important to see
your PCP annually to monitor changes
to your health status from year to year.
Chronic ailments, like heart disease, diabetes
and cancer, can run in families, but
early detection and prevention may help
a person break the grip of these diseases.
Perhaps you want to lose weight, get to
the bottom of a sleep disorder or manage
migraine headaches. A PCP can diagnose
your specific problem and keep you on
the road to wellness.
So what type of PCP is right for you?
• Family Practice: This type of doctor is
trained to care for your whole family,
from infants to seniors.
• Internal Medicine: An internist provides
primary care for adults and often has
additional training in specific medical
conditions.
• Obstetrics/Gynecology: This type of
doctor is trained to care for the unique
health needs of women, including
women experiencing or planning for
pregnancy.
• Pediatrics: A pediatrician cares for your
children until they are well into their
teens.
With locations from The Magnificent
Mile to Orland Park, and the South Loop
to Flossmoor, University of Chicago
Medicine is bringing the very best in primary
care closer to where you live, work
and shop.
Live Better –
Benefits of Massage Therapy
• Let’s talk about stress relief
Who doesn’t want to reduce the stress
in their life? Stress relief is key to finding
the balance of a healthy lifestyle. Even a
single massage session has been shown to
significantly lower heart rate, cortisol and
insulin levels - all of which help reduce
daily stress.
• Let’s force the issue ... of relaxation
How often and how long are you actually
able to disconnect from life? Massage
has been shown to help the body enter a
relaxing rest-and-recovery mode - an effect
that lingers long after the massage is
over.
• Sit up and take notice ... of posture
Unlike other bad habits, poor posture
can help be corrected by relaxation. Massage
helps reinforce healthy and natural
movements, which can get posture back
on track.
• Breathe in. Breathe deeply.
One of the telltale signs of anxiety and
stress is constricted breathing. Massage
can play an important role in relieving respiratory
issues and training the body how
to relax.
Rejuvenating Results –
Benefits of Skin Care
• Even skin tone
Facials protect a customer’s skin while
brightening their complexion, revealing a
healthy glow.
• Fight environmental pollutants
Combat prolonged damage and signs of
aging caused by exposure to the elements.
• Maintain hydration
Hydration increases the firmness and
health of a customer’s skin, minimizes
wrinkles, and promotes a youthful appearance.
Elevate Results -
Advanced Skin Care Services
• Massage Envy’s exclusive Microderm
Infusion adds revolutionary, precisiontimed
hydration technology to go above
and beyond traditional microdermabrasion
treatments.
• Chemical exfoliation featuring PCA
SKIN can deliver dramatic results, in
a non-clinical environment, with little
downtime. Reveal healthy, glowing skin
immediately.
Start The Wellness Journey Today
For customers looking to add regular
massage, stretch and skin care to
their wellness program, a Massage Envy
combating daily pressures and anxiety. In
addition to stress relief, ongoing massage
therapy can reduce pain, increase energy
levels and improve overall physical and
mental performance. Their experienced,
professional therapists and estheticians at
At Artistic Dentistry, 14811 S. Founder’s
continues to evolve in stride with the
And now, the newly renovated practice
Botox relaxes the muscles and has
from jaw fatigue and soreness
to fractured teeth. The treatment also can
help those who suffer from sleep apnea,
for which grinding of the teeth is a common
side ailment.
With Botox now on-site, Artistic Dentistry
can also expand its cosmetic offerings,
which already include teeth whitening
Dental and facial imperfections can
cuisine in an ultrahip,
yet informal setting. Conveniently
located minutes
Marlin offers a seasonally
evolving menu that
highlights innovative, responsible
and sustainable
fare with a purpose. Experience
the innovate, chefdriven
Dancing Marlin
menu, where every item
is made in-house from
scratch using high-quality,
fresh and locally sourced
ingredients. In addition
to great food, Dancing
Marlin’s sharing concept
provides a lively and entertaining
experience that
is perfect for dining with
friends and family. What
are the rules for sharing?
There are no rules. Guests
begin by ordering a few
dishes to share. If they’re
still hungry, they can go
ahead and try a few more.
If someone at the table is
not the sharing type (and
there’s nothing wrong with
that), then they may enjoy
one of the larger entrées.
Start the tasting adventure
with house-made
sliders, tacos or a salad,
and then enjoy a DM signature
dish, such as gnudi,
The Fig and the Pig, or the
locally-famous NY strip
steak served Tuscan style.
And don’t forget to taste
the fresh seafood. Dancing
Marlin features fresh
fish that is sourced direct
from Hawaii, Japan, British
Columbia and other
acclaimed international
seafood locations. Try
some of the acclaimed
DM favorites, such as crab
stuffed peppers, DM scallops,
spicy garlic shrimp
and the daily “fresh off
the hook” specials. An extensive
list of gluten-free
items, as well as vegetarian
dishes, are offered.
Dancing Marlin knows
when it comes to quality,
details matter. The DM
full-service bar now includes
our hand-picked
bottled wine program to
complement our 18 carefully
selected wines served
from a custom tap system
with perfect air and temperature
control for every
glass poured. Eight handcrafted
cocktails are also
offered on tap, many of
which are seasonally inspired.
The DM staff has a
passion for food and drink
and customers are encouraged
to ask for pairing
suggestions.
Dancing Marlin recognizes
that dining is as
much about the experience
as it is the cuisine,
and the atmosphere is as
rousing as our food. Interior
design elements are
reclaimed or repurposed,
and serve as a reflection
of responsible and sustainable
values. Have a seat at
the chef’s communal table,
also known as The Kitchen
Table, where you can
experience an exclusive
behind-the-scenes look at
the high-energy DM open
kitchen. The Kitchen Table
atmosphere buzzes with
excitement and creates a
festive sharing environment
for up to 16 people.
Dancing Marlin is the
perfect setting for private
dining and group events,
ranging from Holiday parties,
cozy family affairs for
birthdays, anniversaries or
showers, to large corporate
dinners and client cocktail
parties. Customers can
create their own custom
menu as unique as the party
being planned. Dancing
Marlin Restaurant staffs
each private party with
dedicated servers to ensure
Years of experience show in Ramon’s hand-crafted leather accessories
Ramon’s Shoe Repair
and Motorcycle Leatherworks
has been serving the
Chicagoland area for more
than 20 years, and now
they’ve brought their talents
to their shop in Mokena.
Ramon’s offers premium
hand-crafted, artisanquality
leather motorcycle
saddlebags, pouches, accessories
and much more.
They know a customer’s
motorcycle is more than
just a way to get around
town; it’s an investment,
and it’s a reflection of the
owner’s personality.
Ramon’s understands the
passion that bikers have for
their motorcycles. After
serving thousands of satisfied
customers for three
decades in Worth, they’ve
built the expertise to provide
bikers with those alterations
and customizations
that truly allow the owner
to represent who the person
is on the bike.
Ramon personally
works with each individual
customer to make sure
they’re getting exactly
what they want. He’ll sit
down with the customer,
and together, they come up
with an exact plan for the
design and implementation,
ensuring that customers
won’t be talked into
a product that they don’t
want or need, and will do
the work for a price that
is fair and reasonable.
Customers won’t find any
unwelcome surprises like
hidden costs and fees. Everything
will be planned
out with their specific
wants and needs before
work is started. Customers
won’t pay a dime until the
work is done and they’re
satisfied with the finished
product.
Some of Ramon’s specialties
include custom
motorcycle bags, seat coverings,
fringe, heritage bag
reinforcement, patch applications
for a customer’s
favorite old or new jackets
or bags, and many other
custom jobs. Customers
can also get their favorite
pair of boots and shoes repaired,
getting rid of the
hassle of having to get a
new pair and spend the uncomfortable
time breaking
them in.
Ramon’s attention to
detail means a customer’s
custom motorcycle bag
will be the finest a customer
has ever owned and will
get them noticed on the
road. Seat coverings can
be altered to fit the individual,
so no more struggling
with factory stock seats
that can be uncomfortable
or even dangerous to ride
on. Ramon can add fringe
to any leather motorcycle
accessories, including
custom hand grip fringe,
floor board fringe and bag
fringe. Heritage Softail
bags can sag over time,
but Ramon can keep those
bags looking new with his
custom-made leather supports.
If a customer has
patches but doesn’t trust
themselves to apply them,
Ramon can apply them for
the customer to their cut,
leather or denim jackets or
their bike’s bags.
Ramon has been working
with leather since his
father started teaching him
when he was just 5 years
old. Since then, Ramon
has been honing his craft
so that there isn’t any job
too big or too small for
him to handle with the
expertise and care needed
when making alterations
or repairs to a customer’s
most prized possessions.
When customers work
with Ramon, they’re going
to come away with exactly
the work they want done
at a fair and honest price.
This holiday season, come
see why Ramon is the only
name a customer needs
to know for all their motorcycle
leatherwork and
shoe repair needs.
Providence Catholic
High School is inviting all
eighth-grade students to
register for the Incoming
Freshman Placement Exam
taking place from 8-11:30
a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1.
Pre-registration is required
at Providencecatho
lic.org, and there is a $25
exam fee.
Providence Catholic is
the top college prep high
school in the area, with
students going on to study
at top colleges and universities
across the country.
With 100 of its graduates
going onto college, students
receive personalized
college counseling to make
the right choice, while the
most recent grads received
$40 million in college
scholarship offers, more
than any other high school
in the area. It is quite clear
that there is an advantage to
attending Providence Catholic,
often dubbed “The
Providence Advantage.”
“We just opened the
21,000 square foot Brown
Student Commons in early
October in conjunction
with our school’s 100th
anniversary,” added the
Rev. John Merkelis, OSA,
president of the school.
“The new facility provides
a safe, welcoming central
space for all students to
gather before, during and
after school hours. A larger
modern kitchen, food
court, concession space and
spirit shop allows our staff
to provide a greater diversity
in offerings — hot and
cold, healthy and quick.
The facility also includes
a spiritwear shop and rest-
Jack Gibbons Gardens all
about traditions, not trends
Jack Gibbons Gardens does not follow
trends.
Diners are not going to witness Happy
Hours or Margarita Mondays at Jack Gibbons.
That is because Jack Gibbons focuses
on what really matters: great food and
even better company.
The restaurant reportedly has customers
who say they have not been there for
25-30 years but come back and it is just
the way they remember it.
Jack Gibbons Gardens — or Gibbons,
as the regulars call it — opened in 1922
as a speakeasy. Although times have
changed drastically since then, the restaurant
itself has not. From the red leather
booths to the wood-paneled walls, Jack
Gibbons is truly timeless.
In a time where chain restaurants are on
every corner, Gibbons has become even
more special and unique. From the second
a diner sits and is instantly delivered
delicious warm bread, three-bean salad
and coleslaw, before even a glance at the
menu, it is easy to know one is about to
have one of the best meals of his or her
life. From surf and turf to fried chicken,
Gibbons has something to satisfy any
craving.
Gibbons has been described as a “generational
place” that sees everyone from
grandfathers and fathers to their grandchildren
who dine there.
A secret to that success is that the restaurant’s
staff does not experience the
type of turnover seen in some chain restaurants.
Its employees have worked there
for years, striving for a “Cheers” vibe with
which the bartender knows the customers,
what they’re having, and the friends they
bring with them.
The effects of agerelated
hearing loss
South Suburban Hearing
Health Center specializes
in age-related hearing
loss. This is the loss of
hearing that gradually occurs
in most of us as we
grow older. It is one of the
most common conditions
affecting older and elderly
adults.
Approximately one in
three people in the United
States between the ages
of 65 and 74 has hearing
loss, and nearly half of
those older than 75 have
difficulty hearing. Having
trouble hearing can make
it hard to understand and
follow a doctor’s advice,
respond to warnings, and
hear phones, doorbells,
and smoke alarms. Hearing
loss can also make it
hard to enjoy talking with
family and friends, leading
to feelings of isolation.
Jonathan L. Wright,
ACA, BC-HIS, a specialist
at South Suburban Hearing
says that age-related
hearing loss most often occurs
in both ears, affecting
them equally. Because the
loss is gradual, if you have
age-related hearing loss
you may not realize that
you’ve lost some of your
ability to hear.
“Many people put off
getting help for their hearing
loss because they think
it’s insignificant – something
they can deal with
by simply turning the TV
louder or asking family
and friends to repeat
themselves,” Wright said.
But research has linked
untreated hearing loss to
significant issues that affect
peoples’ lives in many
ways.
Dementia and hearing loss
Seniors with hearing
loss are significantly more
likely to develop dementia
over time than those who
retain their hearing.
• Mild hearing loss: two
times more likely to develop
dementia.
• Moderate hearing loss:
three times more likely
to develop dementia.
• Severe hearing loss: five
times more likely to develop
dementia.
Mental health and
hearing loss
Hearing loss results in
social isolation. Adults
with untreated hearing loss
tend to withdrawal from
engaging with family &
friends.
Adults ages 50 and older
with untreated hearing loss
are more likely to report
depression, anxiety, anger
and frustration, emotional
instability, and paranoia,
and are less likely to participate
in social activities
than those who wear hearing
aids.
Can I prevent age-related
hearing loss?
At this time, scientists
don’t know how to prevent
age-related hearing loss;
however, you can protect
yourself from noise-induced
hearing loss by protecting
your ears, with ear
plugs or ear muffs, from
sounds that are too loud
and last too long.
How can I tell if I have a
hearing problem?
Ask yourself the following
questions. If you
answer “yes” to three or
more of these questions,
you could have a hearing
problem and may
need to have your hearing
checked*:
• Do you sometimes feel
St. Christopher Tours and
their deluxe motorcoach
venues. In addition to being
recording artists and
musical performers, for
more than 25 years Phil
& Amy have hosted oneday
and overnight luxury
motorcoach trips. Their
St. Christopher travelers
have traveled all around
the country to exciting getaway
locations across the
United States and Canada.
This past summer and fall,
St. Christopher Tours visited
Yellowstone National
Park and Jackson Hole,
experiencing the scenic
wonders of Wyoming.
Phil & Amy surprised their
guests as they were invited
to sing the national anthem
for the world-famous
Cody, Wyo. rodeo. Old
Faithful, plunging waterfalls,
multicolored canyons,
rivers and streams,
mountains, forest, countless
plant and animal life
and beautiful accommodations
are sure to be forever
remembered by their travelers.
Phil & Amy’s Tours
also took their guests later
in June to beautiful Mackinac
Island and are just
back from their head start
of Christmas shopping on
a three-day visit to Frankenmuth,
Mich. Plenty of
one-day tours are offered
all the time as well.
Once again, St. Christopher
Tours has great travel
plans and destinations
in store for one-day and
overnight vacations for the
coming year. June 2019
features a nine-day motorcoach
trip to Cape Cod that
includes everything from
visiting the New England
islands and a visit to Boston
to a five-day stay at a
Cape Cod resort and spa
and even a boat cruise for
whale watching. Travelers
will have a delightful
morning experience as the
group crosses Nantucket
Sound by ferry to visit
Martha’s Vineyard. The
little villages and town
each have their own personality
and a tour guide
that will show the sites,
such as the Oak Bluffs and
famous lighthouses. Back
on the mainland, travelers
will experience dinners at
famous fine local restaurants,
as well as meals at
the resort and spa that they
venture out from each day.
Winding roads through
picturesque communities
will take travelers on an
expedition off the coast for
the whale-watching cruise.
This is a great trip for joining
Phil & Amy and St.
Christopher Tours. Just ask
any past travelers about the
2016 Cape Cod trip, which
was fun, relaxing and educational,
too. Check out
their ad and visit the www.
philnamymusic.com website
and gallery to relive
travel moments and anticipate
future destinations.
One-day trips include Phil
& Amy’s Starved Rock
performances and theater
events including “The Producers”
lunch and matinee
at the Paramount Theater
in Aurora, “Mamma Mia”
lunch and matinee at The
Drury Lane Theater in
Oak Brook and “West Side
Story” evening performance
at the Lyric Opera.
Call their offices to find
Most people know they
need to clean out their dryer
lint tray between each cycle,
but what lurks behind
the wall is just as important
for safety and avoiding fire
traps, as well as fully efficient
dryer performance.
Joe Enzenberger, owner
of Dryer Vent Wizard,
opened his New Lenoxbased
business in 2009.
Lint is the villain — lint
that has been allowed to
build up and linger too
long in the dryer exhaust
vent.
It is estimated by the
U.S. Consumer Product
Safety Commission and
the U.S. Fire Administration
that 15,500 fires associated
with clothes dryers
occur annually. These fires
account for an average of
20 deaths, 370 injuries and
more than $88 million in
property damage. “Failure
to clean the dryer vent”
was the leading factor cited
in U.S. Fire Administration
reports.
“It is something very few
people know about or think
about,” said Enzenberger,
whose company specializes
in dryer vent cleaning,
repair, alteration and installation.
“It is the leading
cause of dryer fires.”
Lint accumulation also
can cause dryers to stop
working or to work inefficiently.
A dryer vent
clogged with lint can add
as much as $18-$24 per
month to energy costs.
“Improper venting
causes problems, as well,”
Enzenberger said. “The
dryer exhaust duct and
connections should be
made of rigid metal or
semi-rigid metal and secured
with metal, heatresistant
tape rather than
duct tape. I often find
plastic or foil accordiontype
material, which can
easily trap lint and is more
susceptible to kinks and
crushing.”
Warning signs include:
• Clothes are taking more
than one cycle to dry, especially
jeans and towels
• No lint visible on lint
screen
• Dryer repeatedly stops
during a cycle
• Clothes have moldy
smell after dry cycle
• Clothes are very hot after
a dry cycle
• Top of dryer hot to the
touch while running
• Excess lint left on clothing.
“This has been a consumer
education process,
but it’s hard to get the
word out,” Enzenberger
said. “Most don’t call until
they have a serious problem
with their dryer.”
He suggests people
treat clothes dryers as a
household item in need of
regular maintenance. Consumers
can protect dryer
performance and promote
safety by cleaning the lint
screen between each use,
ensuring the connection
between the dryer and
wall is made of compliant
material and remains
un-kinked, and having the
dryer exhaust duct cleaned
regularly. Dryer manufacturers
recommend inspection
and cleaning at least
annually.
Those who are taking
some time off for the holidays
find it is the perfect
time to have an inspection
and cleaning of clothes
dryers and dryer vent systems.
Another important tip:
Never let your clothes dryer
run when you are out of
the house or asleep.
Most Americans take water for granted
Investment in
infrastructure critical
to daily service
Most Americans take the
community water systems that
bring clean water to and from
their homes and businesses for
granted.
They turn on the tap and flush
the toilet without thinking twice
about where the water came
from or where it will end up.
Imagine a day without water;
a day without safe, reliable water
and wastewater service. A
day without water would mean
no water comes out of the tap to
brush one’s teeth. There would
be no morning coffee. When
flushing the toilet, nothing
would happen.
Firefighters would have no
water to put out fires. Farmers
couldn’t water their crops. Restaurants
and industries would
close. Doctors couldn’t wash
their hands.
A single, nationwide day
without water service would put
an estimated $43.5 billion of
economic activity at risk. In just
eight days, a national water service
stoppage would put nearly
2 million jobs in jeopardy.
A day without water everywhere
would be nothing short
of a humanitarian, political and
economic crisis.
That’s unimaginable for most,
but there are communities in the
U.S. that have lived without water.
From manmade tragedies in
Flint, Michigan, to water scarcity
issues in central California, to
wastewater runoff in the Great
Lakes — water issues abound.
There are millions of
Americans living in communities
that never had the infrastructure
to provide safe water
service, relying on bottled water
and septic systems each day.
The problems that face our
drinking water and wastewater
systems are multi-faceted. The
nation’s water and wastewater
infrastructure is aging and
in need of investment, having
gone underfunded for decades.
Drought, flooding and climate
change stress water and wastewater
systems. Too many communities
have ignored the infrastructure
needs of their water
and wastewater systems. They
are reluctant to adjust or raise
customer rates to pay for necessary
infrastructure improvements.
Reinvestment in our water
and wastewater infrastructure
must be a national priority, but
requires locally driven solutions.
Illinois American Water
invests approximately $70 million
to $100 million annually
to replace, upgrade and expand
capacity of its water and wastewater
systems.
Nationally, American Water
invests an estimated $1 billion
annually on water and wastewater
infrastructure.
The United States Environmental
Protection Agency estimated
that approximately $384
billion in improvements to
drinking water infrastructure is
needed by 2030 for systems to
continue providing safe drinking
water to 297 million Americans.
More than $300 billion is
needed for upgrades to wastewater
facilities by 2030.
The good news is that the
American people are already
widely supportive of increased
investment in nation’s water
infrastructure. Above any other
pressing political issue, Americans
name rebuilding the nation’s
infrastructure as an issue
they most want elected officials
to address.
Americans view water infrastructure
investment as an even
greater priority than infrastructure
generally, with 82 percent
of voters saying that they view
the issue as either important or
very important. No other issue
facing our public officials enjoys
such a broad consensus.
Americans across the regional
and political spectrum know
that investing in drinking water
and wastewater systems is key.
While neglecting the nation’s
water systems poses grave
health and economic dangers,
the benefits of reinvestment
are great. If America closes the
existing water infrastructure in-
Forest View Farms offers horseback riding for the holidays
For more than 50 years, Forest
View Farms has welcomed
horse-lovers of all ages, whether
they have been riding all of their
lives or want to enjoy their first
rides.
Forest View Farms in Tinley
Park abuts the Cook County Forest
Preserves — a beautiful piece
of land that begs to be seen. The
farms invite people to enjoy time
away from life’s stresses and
spend time relaxing by meandering
through the beautiful forest
trails.
Riders are paired with a horse
at the rider’s skill level, so new
riders do not feel overwhelmed
while sleigh rides, hayrides or
other horse-drawn vehicles are
piloted by one of the farms’ accomplished
workers.
Trail rides begin on the Forest
View Farms property and take
adjacent trails through the Cook
County Forest Preserves. Trail
rides are offered year-round, and
offered for both private, reserved
rides and non reserved walk-in
customers. Trail riders need to
be at least 9 years of age, with a
250-pound weight limit.
Children younger than 9 who
want to ride also can enjoy pony
rides, which are offered yearround
and are great for smaller
children. Children learn to be
comfortable around horses during
their controlled trail ride
around the Forest View Farms
property. All ponies are hand-led
by a parent or adult.
Forest View Farms offer riding
lessons for new and advanced
riders, young and old. For those
who have always wanted to try
horseback riding, there are classes
for people of all ages, from 3
years and older. Toddlers can become
comfortable around horses
or ponies with mommy and me
classes, and older children can
start learning riding basics, with
lessons tailored to their ages and
levels of comfort.
For adults who have never
had the chance to try horseback
riding, Forest Views Farms has
both group and private lessons,
so people can try it out with their
friends or on their own. Forest
View Farms also offers driving
lessons for those who do not
drive.
Forest View Farms offers everything
one needs for a successful,
memorable party. Parties can
be built to accommodate everything
from trail rides, pony rentals,
hayrides, ride wagons, covered
wagons, carriages and stage
coach to petting farm animals.
Sheriff badges, hats and bandannas
are available as party favors.
The farms have outdoor party
pavilions available and heated
party barn for fall, winter and
spring comfort.
And whether or not one decides
to have a party at his or
her location, or the farms, Forest
View can supply everything
needed, including western decorations
and props for a great party
all guests will remember.
Forest View also does parades,
weddings, reunions, convention
events, company picnics, cookouts,
special events and parties
for all occasions.
Forest View Farms invites everyone
to join for a week of horsey
fun at the horse camp, which is
a great way to learn about horses
and other farm animals. During
the week at camp, campers will
learn to brush, saddle and ride
horses. Campers also will adopt
one farm animal and take care
of it for the week. Campers also
will have riding lessons and go
on trail rides daily.
The farm also has other
types of horse-related activities
throughout the week.
Fall is upon us, and hayride
season is here, while winter is
fast approaching. And the coming
of snow brings sleigh rides.
Discover creative muses at Art a la Carte
Finding a fun venue to book
a holiday get together can be
stressful, especially when parties
start to become the same old
thing. Art a la Carte promises an
unforgettable celebration and
certainly a unique way to have
fun during the holidays. From
painting on a wood sign, canvas
or wine glasses, to planting a terrarium,
the studio has a variety
of art projects taught step-bystep
to ensure each person leaves
with a new creation they’re
proud of. But the studio isn’t
your typical art class; beer, wine
and food are permitted, so adults
can bring in their favorite bottle
of chardonnay and craft their
stress away. During the holidays,
everyone looks forward to getting
together, company parties,
holiday fundraisers and family
gatherings, so why not make
Santa Claus returns to New Lenox
for Christmas in the Commons
Mayor Tim Baldermann
and the Village of
New Lenox are excited
to announce the return of
Christmas in the Commons
for the 2018 holiday
season.
The spectacular display
of lights — highlighted
by the largest illuminated
Santa Claus in the United
States — will return to the
New Lenox Village Commons
for its third year, accompanied
by a full calendar
of holiday activities.
The holiday light display
is scheduled to begin
lighting up the Village
Commons on Dec. 2, with
dazzling drapes of lights
and life-sized displays
that will transform the
Commons into a winter
wonderland. Santa Claus
himself stands nearly 40-
feet tall and is illuminated
by 18,500 LED lights. A
special mailbox sits near
the display where visitors
will have the opportunity
to mail letters to Santa,
all of which will receive a
response directly from the
North Pole if mailed by
Dec. 16.
Also returning to the
Commons this year will be
not one, but two synthetic
skating rinks, presented
in part by the New Lenox
Community Park District.
Standard ice skates can
be used on the rink, and
though guests are encouraged
to bring their own,
a limited supply will be
available for rental during
select hours.
Another featured event,
also making a return for its
second year in a row, is the
Holiday Market, open to
the public each Saturday
and Sunday in December
before Christmas. Guests
will find a variety of vendors
each weekend, offering
homemade and artisanal
wares for sale. This
is the perfect time to find
unique gifts for family and
friends all while supporting
small businesses in a
beautiful, holiday atmosphere.
The ever-expanding
celebration will also include
many new features
this year, including Santa
Claus and other holiday
character visits each weekend,
horse-drawn wagon
rides, musical performances,
two holiday craft beer
tasting nights, crafts and
movies for the children,
and more.
All of the fun begins
Sunday, Dec. 2, with the
Christmas in the Commons
Kick-off Celebration
from 2-6 p.m. in the
Village Commons. The
kick-off will include a
visit from Santa and Mrs.
Claus, an appearance by
Santa’s reindeer, holiday
musical performances and
more. The day will culminate
with the official
throwing of the switch
to light up the Commons
with its breathtaking display
of holiday lights.
Additional details on
all of the special events
and activities that will be
a part of Christmas in the
Commons this year can
be found at newlenox.net/
Choo Choo choose the
best in model trains
Choo Choo Works opened in Frankfort
almost a year ago and is a reincarnation of
an Oak Lawn store by the same name that
was owned by Tony Shockwave’s father.
He decided to open up a similar shop after
his two sons became interested in model
trains.
The store carries both new and old train
sets, most of which remain in mint condition
in the box. The trains are priced
lower than those that could be bought on
many online sites. For the older collectors,
Choo Choo Works has no shortage
of collectible Lionel trains, including rare
sets.
Tony Shockwave, owner of Choo Choo
Works, purchased the archives from the
Lionel Century Club. Many of the historic
engine models will come with copies of
the blueprints from the actual trains, certification
and documentation, as well as a
special display case from Lionel.
We keep our displays in mint condition.
We have a wide array of different sets, including
a train set made of solid gold. We
are always looking for new sets to add to
our collection, so feel free to contact us if
you have one.
to the vital role local
vegetable gardens offer to
everyone by growing under-produced
food, such as
fresh fruits and vegetables,
economy would gain $220
billion in annual economic
activity and 1.3 million
There is no option. Public
officials at the local,
must prioritize investment
in water and wastewater.
Public-private partnerships
will play an important
role in building the
will allow for
building modern, energyefficient
advanced systems
that will sustain communities
for generations to
America needs to prioritize
building stronger
water and wastewater systems
now, so that no community
Experience the Experimac difference in Orland Park
For those who have always
wanted an Apple
computer but thought the
cost of a new one was too
high, or have an Apple device
that is broken and unsure
about getting it fixed,
the solution is right in the
neighborhood.
Experimac, in Orland
Park, offers gently used
computers and mobile
devices, and also repairs
those devices.
“We help our customers
decide between the cost
of repair and the cost of a
previously owned, ‘broken
in’ device,” said Gary Lundquist,
owner of the new
Experimac store at 9212
W. 159th St. Lundquist
operates the new franchise
location along with his son
Jeff.
Repair shops are inclined
to propose fixing a
well-worn device because
many have no alternatives,
and used computer stores
only want to sell you a
“new” device, according
to Lundquist.
But it rarely makes sense
to repair an iPad 2 because
the cost of the repair will
almost always exceed the
cost of a replacement unit
with the same or even
enhanced features. But a
popular iPhone 5 that only
needs a new battery will
serve its intended purpose
for less than $40 and not
require the user to adapt to
a new piece of equipment,
he explained.
“We help customers
make the choice that best
suits them,” Lundquist
said.
Experimac is part of a
fast-growing franchise
group named by Entrepreneur
Magazine as
one of the Top 10 New
Franchises. Experimac
in Orland Park is part of
a network of experts who
can be contacted for parts
and information on the
more esoteric repair challenges.
“While we’re a relatively
small player in a world
full of giants, we use our
size as an advantage,”
Lundquist said. “Little
guys have to be more
flexible and offer more
options, like financing.
And appointments are not
necessary at Experimac.
You’ll never have to wait
more than 10-15 minutes,
and that is itself a rarity.”
The store offers a sevenday,
“no questions asked”
return policy, an in-house
90-day warranty, and a
full-year limited warranty
underwritten by the nation’s
largest warranty
provider.
“We believe that outstanding
customer service
is what everyone should
provide, and we strive to
do be better than outstanding,”
Lundquist said.
The proof of that is in
the feedback he and his
staff have received from
customers.
“They see that we’re
interested in gaining customers,
not just one-time
sales,” Lundquist said.
“We don’t automatically
recommend the most expensive
device, and if we
can make a balky iPad
or iPhone run simply by
cleaning out the power
ports, we won’t charge
for re-building the phone/
iPad. If the problem can be
fixed in five minutes, we
often don’t charge at all.”
For the holiday season,
Experimac is offering 10
percent off 15-inch retina
laptops through Black Friday,
and at various times
throughout December the
store will have 50 percent
off on Red Tag accessories,
or customers can buy
a mobile phone and get
25 percent off any phone
case.
