Peter Stout ’72 arrived at a Middlesex summer golf outing in North
Boulder, CO, with three artifacts from the 1970s: his Mini Cooper,
a Middlesex pennant, and his varsity letter “M”—the last of which
served as the trophy for the winning foursome.
most clueless codger in the world
and then answered, ‘Scooping up
ground balls.’ Some things
do change—not only is there a
lacrosse tradition, but the Golden
Shovel has been subsumed into
that tradition.”
From Alaska, George Nagel
reports, “I set a goal of bicycling
500 miles this past winter. Winter
defined: From the date I put studded
tires on my bike (November 3)
until the date I put my summer
tires back on (April 10). I ended
up biking 628 miles around
Anchorage.” George adds that
he has also been singing classic
rock songs at open mic nights
around town.
Earlier in the spring, several classmates
could not resist an e-mail
exchange concerning our current
President. First time anyone had
communicated since the 45th.
Harry Orenstein writes that he
would like to attend the 50th but
travel might be difficult. He is
doing well and would like to send
a “hello” to Stephen Zinsser,
Robert Eberhart, and Dwight Hill.
Buck Parson responds, “All
good here.” After 18 years, he is still
at First Republic, and his twins had
good freshman years at Hamilton
and Georgetown. He continues
to play lots of golf.
George Wadsworth continues
as a hospitalist nurse practitioner
for Martin Health Systems at
Tradition Medical Center in Port
St. Lucie, FL, and works part time
in the same role for Schumacher
Clinical Partners in nearby Sebastian,
FL. His life is “never dull,”
and he sends “best wishes” to all.
Tom Doe reports, “Our big news
this summer is that our eldest
daughter, Whitney, and her husband
had a boy, Thomas Walch
Gossett—our first grandchild—
on June 13. Our daughter lives
in Austin, TX. In addition, we
bought a condo in downtown
Austin and will be spending more
time in the winter there. Mimi
and I are in good health, have solid
businesses, and continue to love
being in Concord. Our youngest
daughter, Liz, and her husband
returned from a year in Sweden
and are back in Charlottesville,
VA, where she is finishing her dissertation.
I will accompany Liz to
Stockholm for my 60th to see her
present a paper at the John Singer
Sargent exhibit when the National
Art Museum reopens in October.
I see Middlesex alumni in Concord
at the golf course and around
town.”
Chip King wrote last summer,
“Hi, everyone. It’s always inspirational
to read the insightful, generous,
and loving comments that
members of our class have shared
in the last couple of years. Sadly,
the richest have come at the time
of losing several of our fellow ’76ers.
But we all certainly drew closer as
many of us reveled in the wonder
that was our 40th class reunion!
Since I haven’t volunteered many
updates to the Alumni Bulletin
over the years, here’s an overview
of things in my life since graduating.
I fled south to Tulane to earn
a B.A. in the ever-versatile field
of English. Spending 16 months
at Exeter University, Devonshire
during that time was awesome.
In 1983, I moved from Atlanta to
Charlottesville, where I still reside.
I started Alley Antiques and for 12
years lived a great, not-so-lucrative
lifestyle, junking, toting, refinishing,
and exploring in pursuit of a
wide variety of aged objects. I met
my wife, Terri Di Cintio, and we
married in 2000 at nearby Barboursville
Vineyards. Jim Grossman
attended, and Josh Lyons was my
best man! Shortly thereafter, I took
a job at Barboursville to pay off the
tab (not really). I spent four years
Still just down the road from campus, Nancy and Ned Herter ’73 once again hosted a great class party
at the close of Alumni Weekend. Standing, from left to right: George Newson, Nancy Herter, Steve Wilkins
and wife Sarah, Andrew Brown, Cully Irving, Toby Seggerman, David Bull, Charlie Fager, and Nick Gess.
In front: Ned Herter, Alan Parrot, and Phil Hirschler.
