Warrior Update
OLPH girls volleyball wins another league championship
Submitted content
Even without their accomplished
and longtime
coach Nancy Speers available
to guide them, the
Our Lady of Perpetual
Help eighth-grade girls
volleyball team held off a
spirited Faith, Hope and
Charity of Winnetka team
to earn another Council II-
3A championship on Nov.
3 at Regina Dominican
High School.
Filling in admirably
for Speers, were assistant
coach Ruthie Van Kirk and
seventh-grade coaches Bre
Reveley and Briana Flanagan.
In a match that went
three sets, the Warriors defeated
the Bulldogs 25-18,
18-25, 25-19.
“Having coached them
last year, we knew they
were a great group of girls
and it was fun to see them
finish with an exciting
win,” Reveley said.
This was the third
League title for the Warriors
in four years.
OLPH cross-country teams qualify for state
Submitted content
After their sectional meet in Wadsworth
was postponed by the weather, the Our
Lady of Perpetual Help cross-country
teams decided to practice in the rain back
in Glenview.
According to head coach, Dave Zimmer,
it was one of the best practices of the
year, as the runners were motivated and
ready to run, despite the conditions.
Apparently, the dedication and extra
work paid off, as both the boys and girls
team sprinted to first place finishes at the
rescheduled sectional on Oct. 9 at Millburn
Middle School. The teams were
paced with top-10 finishes by Emma
Burke, Sophie Goldberg, Tara Wirtschoreck
and Teegan Browe.
This is the first time in school history
that both teams have qualified, and now
they’ll look to continue their season with
a strong finish at the State Championship
at Maxwell Park in Normal this Saturday
morning.
