The Ryde girls powered home in ther final in a sizzling time of 52.08 sec to leave their second placed rivals almost a second behind them in their wake. Ruby, Aliana and Aniela were joined the following weekend at the NSW Senior Athletics State Relays by Allanah Teo where they competed up an age group in the Under 14 4 x 100m and placing a strong sixth in the final. In the 4 x 200m event Krishani Coffin and Mikayla Kelleher joined Ruby and Aliana to finish just out of the medals in fourth place. Ruby, Aliana, Mikayla and Georgia Phillips also competed in the Under 14s 4 x Long Jump where the team jumped their way to the bronze medal. Aliana’s jump of 4.49m was the best by a 12 year old and third best jump overall in the competition. Elli Barron is only 13 but competed at the Athletics NSW Relays OUTSTANDING Ryde Athletics juniors standing l to r Aliana Moala, Mikayla Kelleher, Aniela Odgers, Krishani Coffin; front Allanah Teo, Ruby Worrell, Georgia Phillips, Elli Barron. against athletes up to six years older when she ran with the Ryde Girls U/20 4 x 1500m and 4 x 800m team. In the 4 x 800m Elli’s team came home with the bronze with Elli playing a big role in moving the team into a medal winning position while in the 4 x 1500m Relay the team finished just out of the medals in fourth place. Players from North Ryde RSL Team 9 Milestone Jubilee in 2019 for North Ryde RSL Netball POWERFUL North Ryde RSL Netball Club celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2019 and there’ll be special events to help mark this important milestone. This proud Netball Club continues to stay strong and thrive in the Eastwood Ryde Netball Association with healthy numbers of players at both Junior and Senior level. It was vintage Smith ho turned on the style thumping three sixes nd five boundaries to hape the Sutherland nnings. He was the fifth wickt to fall with 142 runs n the board before Ben Dwarshuis (28 ot out off 14 balls) and aniel Rixon (27 not out ff 13 balls) guided the harks (6-199) to vicory with two balls to pare. Promising spinner en Manenti was the ick of the Tigers’ bowlers with 3-31. The Twenty20 Cup loss capped a black weekend for the Sydney first grade outfit following a disappointing loss to UTS-North Sydney on the previous day at the same venue. After declaring at 4-380 the Tigers could only watch in frustration as Norths (3-383) cruised to a stunning triumph – courtesy of twin centuries by Tom Jagot (125 not out) and Adam Crosthwaite (143 not out) The pair batted superbly on a flat Drummoyne pitch as they tamed the Tigers’ attack - adding a massive 261 runs for the fourth wicket to help pull off an incredible victory. Boronia Park’s mighty junior cricketers crowned State Knockout champions THESE budding cricketers from Boronia Park Primary School have created history by winning the prestigious NSW State Primary Schools Sports Association Cricket Knockout Shield. Under the guidance of Sydney Tigers grade cricketer Matt Pasternatsky and school teacher Kerrie O’Brien, the Boronia Park young guns etched their names in the record books last week when they defeated Caves Beach (Lake Macquarie) in the final at Raby Sports Complex to become the first school in the Ryde and Hunters Hill districts to lift the trophy. It was another dominant performance from the Boronia X1 as they chalked up a magnificent 60-run victory in the 25 overs per side Shield decider. Earlier in the day, the team toppled Lake Albert Public School (Wagga) in a hard fought semi final by 24 runs to advance. For many of the boys it was a first opportunity to play on turf wickets at the Campbelltown complex. Along the way to their championship success the talented Boronia Park outfit defeated Ultimo Public School, Mortdale Public School, Neutral Bay Public School, Cherrybrook Public School, Niagara Park (Central Coast) Public School and Caddies Creek (Glenwood) Public School in the preliminary rounds. Teacher Mrs O’Brien has done a wonderful job in moulding the team into a powerful unit and has proved an inspiration to the boys with her words of encouragement and cricket nous. She was supported by the capable Pasternatsky, a new teacher at the school with first grade experience in the NSW Premier Cricket competition. Inner West Harbour (Gladesville) junior representative stars Carter Margetson and team captain Lachlan Gosbell topped the run-scoring and also made valuable contributions with the ball. Margetson, who flew to Perth after the Shield win to represent NSW at the National Primary Schools Sports Association Cricket Championships, is an outstanding prospect from the Ryde-Hunters Hill Pirates Junior Cricket Club. A tall and powerful all rounder he was part of a potent attack that included left arm paceman Finn Christensen, Jamie Doust, seamers Sm O’Brien and Angus McRae, swing merchant James Meszaros, the skilful Gosbell and spinner Caleb Graham. In the final Boronia Park batted first and after a shaky start on a difficult pitch managed to register 120 runs off their allotted Netball is open to players seven (7) years and older, and the North Ryde RSL Netball Club has teams that cover the age groups of NetSetGO, Juniors, Cadets and Seniors. The boys then produced a superb bowling and fielding display to skittle the Caves Beach line up for 60 with spinner Graham (3-13 off five overs), pace ace Meszaros (2-6 off three), seamers Margetson (1-5 off four), McRae (1-9 off three) and Christensen (1-12 off five) the pick of the Boronia Park attack. Down five wickets and requiring 90 runs off twelve overs the Caves Beach side collapsed to be all out - well short of their target with four overs remaining. Some 309 teams entered the competition from schools throughout NSW with Mrs O’Brien encouraging the Boronia boys to participate in the coveted knockout series. Boronia Park Primary capped a memorable week when they added the Northern Zone PSSA Cricket title to the school’s trophy cabinet with a victory over Ryde East Public School last Friday in the final staged at L.H Waud Field. McRae (23 retired) and Gosbell (22 retired) top scored as Boronia Park posted 4-106 off their 15 overs before routing Ryde East for 37. Want to play netball?
