ELLIE’S BIBLE JAR
Ellie (age five) has always loved
reading, watching, and listening
to Bible stories. So when I
told her there were groups of
people who didn’t have Bibles
in their language, she was
moved to do something! When
I asked her why it mattered,
she said, “Because the Bible is
the Truth from God that God wants us to know.”
Over the last week, her passion and determination has grown.
What started with giving about half the money saved in her
piggy bank (about $40) to a “for Bibles” jar, soon turned into
creative ideas she could give more: little cleaning jobs at home,
and trading her daily Advent candy for money. Inspired by
her generous spirit, her Dad and I told her we would double
whatever she gave. This morning she told me with a smile she
had no money left in her piggy bank – she’d given it all to the
Bible jar.
After one week of collecting, Ellie has $162.25 in the jar, and
she’s determined for it to grow more before meeting with
someone from the Bible Society next week.
There have been moments Ellie has felt frustrated she can’t
give more … Interestingly, one of her favourite Bible stories
is the poor woman who gave all she had. I reminded Ellie
God sees her generous heart, and He’s WAY bigger than
money; just like He multiplied loaves and fish to feed tummies,
He can multiply a few dollars to feed people’s hearts His Truth.
Now she’s confident in God’s ability to multiply what’s given
cheerfully and sacrificially: “If I only had one penny, I would
give it to the Bible Society, because God would multiply it, so
when it got there, it would be like a thousand dollar bill!”
