BUSY SCHEDULE CONTINUES AGAINST PETES
FRONTS HIT THE ICE FOR THE FIFTH TIME IN EIGHT DAYS
T
he OHL schedule has its ups and downs. Following
the holiday break in the schedule, the
Kingston Frontenacs have found themselves playing
a lot of games in a short amount of time. Beginning
on December 28th, the Frontenacs began a
stretch of playing five games in eight days. That
stretch ends tonight against the Peterborough Petes,
the same team that kicked off the stressful
schedule last Friday night.
In the most recent meeting between the Petes
and Frontenacs, Kingston won in dominant fashion.
Six different goal scorers helped lead Kingston
to a 6-1 victory. Most of that damage came in the
second period when Kingston scored four times
led by Ryan Cranford with a goal and two assists.
Brett Neumann, Anthony Aguanno, Tyler Burnie
and Ian Derungs all contributed multi-point games
as well.
Prior to that match-up, Kingston added Adrien
Beraldo through a trade with Peterborough. Beraldo
didn’t suit up with the Frontenacs until New
Years Day against the Oshawa Generals. In his
Frontenacs debut, he recorded a goal and also had
a fight to make it an eventful first game. Tonight, he
will face his former team for the first time.
The series between Kingston and Peterborough
has been a real home team affair recently. Kingston
has four wins in their last five games against
Peterborough at Leon’s Centre. When the games
take place in Peterborough, it’s the Petes who have
won four of the last five games. The home team is
3-1 so far this season when these two teams meet.

Kingston fans probably weren’t familiar with
Dawson Baker when he was traded here from
the Sudbury Wolves, but Baker was certainly
familiar with the area. It didn’t take long for our fans
to become a fan of the Cobourg, ON native. His hard
working, hard hitting gameplay always earns him
fans very quickly.
Baker played minor hockey for the Quinte Red
Devils during the 2015-16 season. He put up 37
the Kingston Frontenacs acquired Dawson Baker
from the Wolves in exchange for a fifth round
pick and a conditional sixth round pick. Baker
immediately made an impression as a hard working
player that can contribute on the scoresheet and
make the opposition nervous with his physical
game. He also made it clear that when a teammate
needed support, he would be the first one there.
He currently has four goals and four assists in 32
points in 33 games while also being a physical force
on the ice. He racked up 72 PIM over the course
of that season. His solid season set him up to be
selected in the 2016 OHL Priority Selection.
The Sudbury Wolves were the team that called
his name on draft day. They selected him with the
64th overall pick of the 2016 draft. He played 10
games in his first season with Sudbury, but spent
most of the year with the Trenton Golden Hawks
playing against the Frontenacs affiliate, the Kingston
Voyageurs. Baker and the Golden Hawks had a
very impressive run that season making it as far as
Canada’s National Championship, the RBC Cup.
Baker joined the Sudbury Wolves full time for the
following season. In 61 games he recorded 6 goals
and 7 assists for 13 points. His physical play earned
him 54 penalty minutes. The Wolves struggled and
finished in last place in the OHL. Baker was likely
expecting to put in a hard working offseason and
return to Sudbury the following year, but that isn’t
the way it worked out.
During training camp for the 2018-19 season,

games this season.
With a player like Ryan Cranford moving on at
the end of the season, Dawson Baker will likely take
his spot as a spark plug for the Frontenacs moving
forward. At 18 years old, he is eligible to play in the
OHL for another two seasons following this one. KF

After a 15 year pro career, including 10 in the NHL, Kurtis Foster started his coaching career with the Peterborough Petes.
After a season as an Assistant Coach with the Petes, he made the move to Kingston to be an Assistant Coach to Jay
Varady. Kurtis was promoted to Head Coach for the 2018-19 season after Varady was hired by the Tucson Roadrunners
of the AHL.
Luca Caputi played 8 years of pro hockey and immediately joined the coaching ranks following his playing career, as an Assistant
Coach with the Guelph Storm for the 2015-16 season. After three season in Guelph, he made the move to Kingston and was
named Associate Coach of the Frontenacs this past July.
Phil Mangan played in the OHL for the Ottawa 67’s and Kingston Frontenacs before moving to the QMJHL in 2006 to join the
Moncton Wildcats. He finished his junior career with the St John’s Fog Devils. After a number of seasons in the ECHL, Mangan
joined the Kingston Frontenacs as an Assistant Coach for the 2016-17 season.
