General Fairfax’s report
General Fairfaxʼs four regiments
attacked the unwelcome Royalist
garrison on a Sunday night in
January and he reported the detail to
Parliament in a short very readable
document. The documents above
and below are held in the Dartmouth
Museum collection.
Archives in a Museum need not be boring old bits of paper. In
Dartmouth Museum they have a transcript of the report made by
General Fairfax when his troops relieved Dartmouth towards the
end of the English Civil War in 1646.
