Determining What Pole
Dancing Pole Size Is Best
For You

Buying a dance pole (AKA stripper poles)
to learn pole dancing at home for fitness or
competition can be a large investment for some
people so you will want to know you are making
a wise purchase. With that in mind, here are
some tips to help you decide what pole dancing
pole diameter and length is best for you.
We are all different body types, with different
body weights, and different hand sizes. To make
things even more confusing, the pole dancing
pole length is also to be considered. You need a
dance pole that will fit your ceiling height and
body type so it’s safe to dance on and enjoy
without worry.
The size of any dance pole has a double
meaning; the size of the diameter of the pole
and the size of the length of the pole. It is a
wisdom to get familiar with the different
ways dance poles are sized because it will
help you prepare to understand the pole
dancing pole extension options available to
you.
Start by deciding a pole dancing pole
diameter. The diameter can come in 40 mm,
45 mm, 48 mm, and 50 mm. While there is no
DEFINITE standard for size, the most common
pole dance competition diameter is 45 mm
however they will tell you in advance what
size they use. They can use other sizes if they
choose.

The standard pole dancing pole diameter for
home use is 45 mm, which is largely the
industrial standard.
Roughly 85% of our customers purchase a 45
mm Chrome Portable Pole Dancing Pole for
their home.
If you are unsure, then the Chrome 45 mm Portable
Pole Dancing Pole is the best for general use in any
house.
40mm dancing poles are smaller and will give you a
slightly better grip than a 45 mm dance pole. Part of
your ability to grip while pole dancing is your
ability to get your fingers wrapped around the pole
as much as you can. If you are a small gal with tiny
hands then a 40 mm might work better for you.
42mm dancing poles are a little bigger diameter
than the 40mm, yet smaller and easier to grip
than the standard 45mm dance pole. 42mm is
only made by the Lupit brand so there are
limitations in getting this size. If you have smaller
hands or wear a small or medium size glove, this
size will work great for you to enhance your grip.
45mm dancing poles are the standard for general
use, I won’t go into more detail since I already
discussed them at length thus far.
48mm poles are typically a 45 mm pole with
silicone on the outside of the pole. Unless you are
an experienced pole dancer, you probably won’t
want a silicone coated pole (AKA a Chinese dance
pole). Men typically use this pole for extreme
tricks. If you are a beginner or mom just pole
dancing for fitness, avoid the silicone dance poles.

50mm dancing poles were the original pole size
and still exist today for people’s preference. They
are a bit harder to grip due to the wider diameter.
Woman have successfully danced on this pole for
years but the reason 45mm and 40mm dance
poles were created was that the 50 mm was
harder to grip. It doesn’t matter whether you
intend on performing advanced tricks or just
doing a few basic spins at home, the 50 mm
will be harder to grip, especially if you have
smaller hands. Use this pole if you already know
you like this size. Some believe these will get
phased out. Many women who have danced on a
50 mm pole for years are now getting rid of them
and buying a 45 mm or 40 mm dance pole instead.
Lastly, when you pick a pole dancing pole
size for your home, you will consider the
length of the pole. This is determined by
your ceiling height. Take a carpenter’s
tape measure and measure the ceiling
height in three different areas in your
house where you might want to install a
new dance pole.
Next, buy a dance pole that will
accommodate all three ceiling heights.
Making your final decision about where is
best to install the pole when you have
bought the pole and it’s at your home and
ready to go.

There are different pole dancing pole extensions
available to accommodate different ceiling heights
and getting a portable pole dancing pole will be
more flexible. Remember you can always
make portable pole dancing poles permanently
installed at any given time if you want to.
Removable dance poles (AKA portable dance
poles or removable stripper pole) are the most
commonly purchased do to their ceiling height
flexibility. Most women will change their mind
about their poles location at one point and time in
their lives.
Spinning poles for pole dancing are also a
common purchase. You can read more about
