Before we know it, Valentine’s
Day will be here,
and the Surfside News is
again looking to treat one
Malibu couple to a night on
the town.
Our How We Met contest
is now accepting entries,
and the winning duo will
receive a one-night stay
in a king premier oceanfront
guest room at Malibu
Beach Inn (22878 Pacific
Coast Highway) as well as
a $150 gift certificate to
Geoffrey’s (27400 PCH).
Entering is easy. We just
ask that you write up the
story, in 500 words or less,
of how you and your significant
other met and send
it to Editor Lauren Coughlin
at lauren@malibusurf
sidenews.com by 5 p.m.
Thursday, Feb. 7. We also
ask that you please share
a photo of you two, along
with your names, and a
phone number at which we
can reach you.

College admissions
presentation slated for
Jan. 24
Crystal Reed, of No Drama
College Counseling, is
to present a Thursday, Jan.
24 college admissions presentation
which is open to
Malibu high school juniors
and their parents.
The free presentation,
titled “What juniors should
be doing NOW to prepare
for college applications,”
will be from 4-5 p.m. at
Pico Youth & Family Center,
located at 715 Pico
Boulevard, one block east
of Santa Monica High
School.
Reed has been helping
students with the college
admissions process for
more than 15 years. Attendees
will receive information
and handouts, and
questions are welcome.
Gonzaga University
Contino makes president’s
list
Mai Contino, of Malibu,
was named to the president’s
list in the fall 2018
semester.
To be named to list, students
must earn a 3.85 to
4.0 grade-point average.
Oregon State University
Malibu’s Jordan makes
honor roll
Kendall B. Jordan,
of Malibu, maintained a
straight-A average to make
the scholastic honor roll at
Oregon State University
this fall.
Jordan, a junior, is a digital
communication arts major.
Altogether, 1,483 students
earned a 4.0, and another
4,752 earned a B-plus
(3.5) or better to make the
listing.
To be on the honor roll,
students must carry at least
12 graded hours of course
work.
