The Kingston Frontenacs were looking to replace
a large number of graduating players in the off
season. They wanted players that were young and
promising so they could develop into a contender
together. They also wanted players with a winning
attitude. Anthony Aguanno was a player that fit that
description perfectly.
Throughout his minor hockey career, Aguanno
became very familiar with raising a trophy above his
head. He was a member of 8 championship teams
game with Kingston. It was an assist against the Erie
Otters in a 7-4 win. His next 9 points were also assists
as Anthony patiently waited for his first career goal.
Finally, on December 16th against the Flint Firebirds,
Aguanno scored his first OHL goal. He enjoyed the
feeling so much he scored his second goal in his next
game against Peterborough on December 28th.
Anthony Aguanno is part of a solid defensive core
that Kingston has built over the course of this season.
He, along with every other defenceman on the roster,
before reaching the OHL. It’s no surprise that some
of his teams were successful when you look at some
of the players he played with. Over the years he
has suited up with players like Jack Hughes, Philip
Tomasino and Christian Purboo.
Aguanno’s final year of minor hockey came
in 2016-17 with the Mississauga Rebels of the
GTMMHL. As a defenceman, he finished fifth on his
team in scoring with 14 goals and 44 assists. During
the OHL Cup he led his team with 6 points in 5 games
at the tournament. That set Aguanno up to hear his
name called pretty early on draft day.
The Guelph Storm were the team that chose
Anthony during the third round of the 2017 OHL
Priority Selection. He was taken with 42nd overall
pick. He spent the majority of the season with the
Oakville Blades of the OJHL playing in 33 games and
recording 5 goals and 6 assists. He did play 7 games
for the Guelph Storm, but didn’t record a point.
At the start of the 2018-19 season Aguanno suited
up for 3 games with the Storm, but again didn’t
record a point. He was then traded to the Kingston
Frontenacs for “future considerations”.
Anthony recorded his first career point in his first
OFFICIAL GAMEDAY MAGAZINE, VOLUME 46, ISSUE 25
is eligible to return next season. As a young group,
they should develop into one of the better defensive
cores in the OHL in the years to come. KF
