My least favorite
moment on the
first day of school
growing up was when the
teacher told the students
to share a fun fact about
themselves, and suddenly I
wouldn’t be able to think of
a single remotely interesting
thing about myself.
What was supposed to
be my first day on the 22nd
Century Media team didn’t
exactly go as planned
because unfortunately, my
car didn’t stand a chance
against the winter storm
that hit the area last week.
Eventually I made it, and
unlike like my first-day-ofschool
experiences, I am
very excited to introduce
myself. My name is Alex
Ivanisevic, and I am the
new assistant editor for The
Lockport Legend.
I recently moved back
home to Chicagoland after
living in central Iowa for
the past four years. In May,
I graduated from Iowa State
University with a bachelor’s
of science in journalism
and in religious studies
with a minor in philosophy.
At the start of my college
career I didn’t exactly
know what field I wanted
to enter. I knew I had a
passion for learning about
peoples’ different ways
of life, but I soon learned
I also had a passion for
telling their stories when
I joined a student magazine
on campus. The rest,
as they say, is history. I
declared my double major
during my sophomore year
and completely fell in love
with journalism.
Shortly after graduation
and after ending an internship
as a communications
assistant for a company in
the Iowa State University
Research Park, I spent five
months as The Des Moines
Register’s news intern.
Much to my delight and
surprise, near the end of
that internship I was hired
by 22nd Century Media.
I am beyond excited to
get to know the Lockport
community, take on this
new journey and gain more
experience working in the
field of journalism.
A lesson I learned my
freshman year when I
joined that magazine, and
once again when I attempted
to come to work my first
day but instead ended up on
the side of the road in the
snow, is to take each day as
it comes, surprises and all.
And I am definitely looking
forward to where the future
takes me.
that were broken into were
unlocked at the time and
parked in residential driveways.
All four vehicles that
were stolen had either keys or
a proximity fob inside the vehicle.
One of the stolen vehicles
was unlocked inside of a
closed garage, but the garage
was opened using the garage
door opener found inside of
an unlocked vehicle parked
in the driveway.
Mackeys’ Pub supports
veterans with annual chili
contest
Offering the community a
place to gather the weekend
between the NFL conference
championships and the Super
Bowl, along with some
warm chili and a friendly atmosphere,
Mackeys’ Pub in
Orland Park hosted its annual
chili contest the afternoon
of Sunday, Jan. 27.
Mackeys’ has hosted the
event for the past several
years as a way to bring the
community together to support
local veterans. A veteran
himself, owner John
Mackey said the chili contest
is not the only way the local
pub gives back to veterans.
“Anybody who served,
you get a special camaraderie
with anyone else who
served,” Mackey said.
As in years past, the proceeds
of the event will be
donated to the Disabled Patriot
Fund and the Village
of Orland Park’s Veterans’
Commission. The Disabled
Patriot Fund works to provide
financial support to
military families impacted
by the War on Terror.
