The RNO will perform a special all-Rachmaninoff program celebrating the 100th Anniversary of his arrival in America in 1918, when he took up permanent US residence for the rest of his life (and performed twice for CAMA at the Lobero in 1929 and 1941). The all-Rachmaninoff program will include his ever-popular Second Piano Concerto featuring Tchaikovsky Competition silver medalist George Li. cycle of the Shostakovich symphonies<br />

to be put down on disc, and easily the<br />

best recorded” (SACD.net).<br />

<strong>The</strong>ir recording of Prokofiev’s Peter<br />

and the Wolf and Beintus’ Wolf Tracks,<br />

conducted by Kent Nagano and narr<strong>at</strong>ed<br />

by Sophia Loren, Bill Clinton and Mikhail<br />

Gorbachev, received a 2004 Grammy<br />

Award, making the RNO the first <strong>Russian</strong><br />

orchestra to win the recording industry’s<br />

highest honor. <strong>The</strong>ir recording of Shostakovich<br />

Symphony No.7, conducted by<br />

Paavo Järvi, was awarded the Diapason<br />

d’Or de l’Année 2015 as the year’s best<br />

symphonic album, and was nomin<strong>at</strong>ed for<br />

a 2016 Grammy Award.<br />

<strong>The</strong> RNO is unique among the principal<br />

<strong>Russian</strong> ensembles as a priv<strong>at</strong>e<br />

institution funded with the support of<br />

individuals, corpor<strong>at</strong>ions and found<strong>at</strong>ions<br />

in Russia and throughout the world.<br />

Mikhail Pletnev’s genius as pianist,<br />

conductor and composer enchants and<br />

amazes audiences around the globe. He<br />

was Gold Medal and First Prize winner of<br />

the 1978 Tchaikovsky <strong>Intern<strong>at</strong>ional</strong> Piano<br />

Competition when he was 21, a prize<br />

th<strong>at</strong> earned him early recognition worldwide.<br />

An invit<strong>at</strong>ion to perform <strong>at</strong> the 1988<br />

superpower summit in Washington led to<br />
