MOOME is a Belgian design label, born from the collaboration 

between design label INDERA and the creative agency MOOZ. 

MOOME stands for compact and affordable contemporary design 

and brings both high quality design furniture and functional interior 

accessories. 

MOOME turns to a determined audience looking for sustainable 

and high quality design furniture. Our collection is anything but 

mainstream. We collaborate with talented domestic and foreign designers 

and in doing so we choose for both established names and young talent.

Compact living without compromise 

Families increasingly opt for a terraced house in the city or a new form of living 

together in an intergenerational home or via cohousing. We are less tied to a 

particular place and move more easily for work or studies. Once the children have 

left home, a lot of couples trade their spacious family home for a practical and 

maintenance-friendly apartment. 

The MOOME collection is inspired by these different living environments. Modular 

furniture and multifunctional living accessories that you can easily take with you 

are a must in a practical and sustainable contemporary interior. A more nomadic 

lifestyle asks for an interior that grows with its inhabitants. MOOME responds to 

this and brings innovative furniture that effortlessly adapts to a new space with 

other uses or new inhabitants. Think about our multifunctional furniture with extra 

(hidden) storage space or our modular sofas that are easily demountable and offer 

various setup possibilities. You can literally take off in all directions. 

Belgian quality and craftsmanship 

MOOME is part of the Mecam group, a Belgian familyowned 

company that has been operating in the furniture 

sector for over 40 years. Passion and craftsmanship are 

passed on from generation to generation. In the factory in 

Dilsen-Stokkem (Belgium) no compromises are made in 

terms of comfort and quality.

How have you (Wim & Bob Segers, father and son) landed into the world of design? 

Wim: Influenced by my parents I was interested in culture from a young age. Fine Arts and 

Architecture have been an integral part of my education. I cannot imagine a life without. On a 

regular basis we went to expositions and we went looking for new buildings (father Segers had 

been a contractor before), on the other hand, there was an ever-increasing interest in the quest for 

beautifulness and the reason for which a realization could possibly be perceived as repellent. 

Opting for product development (at that time: industrial design) was a step into the dark. Design 

hadn’t been that popular, you know. Books or magazines about design were rare. 

The five-year program in product development under the supervision of Piet Stockmans was a great 

source of inspiration. The internships at Velda, Tiger Plastics and Mosa gave me enough confidence 

to get professionally and passionately involved into the world of design. 

Bob: Bob himself was also spoon-fed with architecture and design. Weekends and holidays had always 

been in the interest of Wim and Rita (graphic designer). My brother Raf (architect) and I were taken 

to expositions and architectural projects. For me there was no doubt at all when I chose to step into 

the school of Arts (architectural design) and pursued that path with a higher degree in interior 

design and furniture design. 

Where do you get your inspiration from? 

Being designers we’re constantly seeking for inspiring 

situations. No doubt that the international fairs in Milan, 

Cologne and Paris are the place-to-be when it comes 

to design and everything related to it. The bi-annuals 

in Venice have been a fix visit for 15 years. Citytrips 

and journeys have an inspiring effect and in the logic 

of nature we discover surprising perspectives that are 

taken into consideration while developing new products. 

Inspiration is like a dynamo that needs to be recharged 

over new input. 

Do you follow certain guidelines or directives in your work? 

Each and every design is built upon its context. First, 

a clear problem case is formulated. Then we draw and 

look for solutions based on logic and intuition. In this 

stage creative input is of utmost importance. A fair use 

of materials, the right proportions, being environmentalfriendly, 

having solid constructions… a sound design has 

to comply with them all. The final result has to be right. 

What do you do to relax? 

Relaxation is equivocal: passive and active. Nothing 

is more delightful in life than a cozy sofa (from 

the MOOME collection of course) to plop down on. 

Exercising, walking or going to the pub with friends are 

stress relieving and let us escape the daily routine of 

work and the stress of short deadlines. While visiting 

an exposition or while being on a city trip we feel free 

and inspired at the same time. 

Do you have certain dreams or ambitions that you would 

like to see fulfilled? 

Our ambition is not to become the largest designer 

company – we strive for the best quality. We are fully 

aware that design on its own simply doesn’t exist. 

Design is a complex and active discipline that cannot 

be ripped apart from its context. Interior, architecture, 

graphic design, web design and design ‘pure’ are closely 

related. 

Our ambition for the future is to unite all these 

disciplines and to improve the interaction between them. 

A challenge we want to meet to realize more founded 

designs that capture a global perspective. Quality and 

creativity as baselines for future realizations.
